Vishal Anand

Vishal Anand is the senior most technical director at VCL, Tata Elxsi. He has been with the company for

over 5 years and has worked on several prestigious projects as supervisor and technical director.

He built a Linux based RenderMan® pipeline for the first 3D animation feature at VCL. The characters for

Roadside Romeo were covered in fur, which meant extremely large datasets. The Render pipe was setup to

enable efficient rendering of scene files at CRL (computation Research laboratories ) to output multiple

mattes, lighting and shadowing for each character as separate passes, (using RenderMan’s AOV capability).

This allowed VCL tremendous control, to creatively direct lighting at the compositing table, reducing

drastically, the number of re-renders.

Roadside Romeo was nominated for best animation sequence in a feature film at the VES festival.

His most recent project has been setting up a pipeline for crowd simulation, rendering and FX for the feature

film “Arjun, the warrior prince”.

He has also been supervisor/technical director on prestigious Indian features like.

Jodha Akbar, Lagaan, Mission Kashmir, Tara Rum Pum (Massive® pipeline for the crowd simulation)

His credits on international films for VCL include Spiderman 2, GhostRider, Gulliver’s Travels,

Vishal spent 4 years in Canada working at “Stargate Digital”, “Rainmaker Entertainment” and “SpinVFX” as

a VFX artist/ supervisor on various hit television shows like –

The Dead Zone, Carrie, Dead like Me, Helen of troy, C.S.I Las Vegas, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, The

Mountain as well as numerous commercials.
