It was a touching moment as Pamela Chopra, wife of veteran Yash Chopra traveled to Melbourne to receive an honor on her late husband’s behalf.Celebrating 100 years of cinema, The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne paid special tribute to veteran Yash Chopra, where the Victorian Government bestowed upon him an honorary title of “Father of Contemporary Indian Cinema” courtesy his strong ties with the region and constant support to the festival.

New Delhi, May 7th 2013: Following an intensive week of cricketing talent at the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup U16 Coaching Camp, the final Coca-Cola XI squad was announced for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.

Of the 24 young cricketers who were a part of the Coaching Camp, the best 15 were picked up for the final squad. The Coca-Cola XI will play against the Sri Lankan National Under-16 team in the three match series, scheduled in Sri Lanka from May 27 to June 3, 2013.

The team will be lead by Nitin Tanwar from New Delhi thanks to an impressive display of cricket and leadership skills during the Inter State Tournament and the training camp. The Coca-Cola XI are Captain, Nitin Tanwar, Shivam Chauhan, Md Kaif Ahmed, Suraj Rai, Vikas Dixit, Anees Ali, Prashant Vashisth (Salwan Boys High School, New Delhi), Mehboob Sheikh, Haashir Dafedar and Usman Gani (Anjuman I-Islam Allana Eng. School, Mumbai), Rang Rajan Divedi, Anupam Kumar, Amar Choudhary (CAV Inter College, Allahabad, UP), Daryl Ferrario (Don Bosco Matriculation HSS, TN), Pranjal Puri (Christian Eminent, MP).

The selected players were coached on various aspects of the game and received invaluable tips in areas such as bowling variations, playing accurately on the back and front foot, essentials of wicket keeping, the best strategy to execute in all 3 formats of the game, directive match planning, maintaining fitness, and body recovery methods through swimming.

Three players who perform exceedingly well during the series will meet the criteria to travel to the United Kingdom in the month of August to further carve a bright cricketing future for themselves. Procam International will nurture these boys both on and off the field, enabling them to make the best use of their talent and be given opportunities to succeed in the sport of cricket. Players from the previous edition who were provided with an opportunity to hone their skills in the UK were Sarfaraz Khan from Mumbai, Nitin Tanwar from New Delhi and Akshay Brahmbhatt from Baroda.

Maria Mutola to be event ambassador for TCS World 10K Bangalore 2013

Mumbai, 07 May, 2013: Three-time World Champion and Olympic Champion in Sydney 2000, Maria Mutola, often ranked as the greatest female 800 m runner of all time, has been confirmed as the Event Ambassador for the TCS World10K Bangalore 2013, a release from event promoters Procam International said on Tuesday.

Maria will join a long and illustrious list of sporting icons and legends that have been brought down by Procam International across three of their long distance events, held in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Maria will be in Bangalore in the days leading up to the event and meet and interact with the participants, the media as well as the sponsors and partners of the event.

The TCS World 10K Bangalore 2011 had reigning Olympic Marathon champion Constantina Dita as the event ambassador, while 2012 saw the arrival of sprinting great Linford Christie. David Rudisha, who set an 800m World Record at the London Olympics, was the event ambassador of the Delhi Half Marathon in 2012, while ‘King’ Haile Gebrselassie uplifted the 2013 Mumbai Marathon with his presence.

Maria Mutola’s consistency, her record at major championships and her ability to compete at the highest levels of the sport for well over a decade are unmatched. She is the fourth track & field athlete to compete at six Olympic Games.

Maria won the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics in 1997 only weeks after her father had been killed in a car accident. She raced wearing a black ribbon and dedicated the victory to his memory. In total she has won nine world 800 m titles, including both indoor and outdoor championships. She won the Commonwealth Games twice and has also won the IAAF World Cupevent, representing the Africa team, four times consecutively.

Maria’s greatest moment, though, came at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, when she finally won Olympic gold. She beat her major rival Stephanie Graf and Kelly Holmes.

She continued her successes in the 2001 season, grabbing the world title in Edmonton and again in 2003 in Paris. Mutola was unbeaten throughout 2003 and grabbed the headlines again that year, at the Memorial van Damme race in Belgium. By winning here, it meant that she became sole winner of the IAAF one million dollar jackpot, awarded to athletes who remained undefeated during the IAAF Golden League series of competitions. She put part of her winnings towards the foundation that she had established in her name in Mozambique.

Aiming to become the first woman to successfully defend the Olympic 800 m title in 2004, her fifth Olympics, Mutola ended up finishing fourth, and out of the medals. In 2005 her injuries were still lingering and she suffered several losses to opponents she would normally easily beat. She parted amicably with her coach Margo Jennings, before returning to good form in 2006, when she won the World Indoor title for a record seventh time.

Mutola had decided that the 2008 Olympic Games would be her last major championships, and she finished fifth. She publicly called an end to her 21-year long athletics career at the Weltklasse Zurichmeeting immediately after the Olympics.

After retiring from athletics she returned to her first sporting love, football. She played for Mamelodi Sundowns team in the South African women’s league. In 2011 she was captain of the Mozambique national soccer team at the All-Africa Games in Maputo.

In 2012 she coached South African runner Caster Semenya to a silver medal at the Olympic Games in London.

Delhi, May 07, 2013: Restaurants Kitne Bhi Mashoor Ho Magar Aapke Haathon Ka Swaad Hit Tha Hit Rahega was the one message that 92.7 BIG FM’s Delhi Station reached out to the woman populace of the city with. For all house-wives who labor each day in their kitchens to put together a sumptuous meal for their families, this was an opportunity to prove their metal and get acknowledged for their culinary skills. Playing judge for this prestigious title was renowned Chef Rakesh Sethi, who was up against the most exigent task of selecting the best from amongst the best! The grand cooking contest finally found their first Rasoi ki Rani, Ms. Puja Beri from East of Kailash, for her mouth-watering Paneer-e-Shahi. Runners up were Himani Kundra for Paneer ka Cheeze Khazana and Astha Chhabra who cooked a delicious Dhaba Dal Masala Baigan.

The contest which saw over 1000 registrations from across the on air promotions and heavy on ground resident welfare association activations, lead to the final selection of 20 semi-finalists. The enormous entries saw the team divide Delhi into 4 zones of North, South, East and West.

Those who made it to the semi finals got the opportunity to meet Big Chef Rakesh Sethi for a Q&A, which finally saw 10 finalists emerging. These 10 finalists went head on in the kitchen at the finale on Saturday, 4th May 2013, at IIHM Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area in Delhi. With BIG Chef Rakesh Sethi overseeing the proceedings during the finale, 60 minutes were allotted to participants to put together a sumptuous dish and they most definitely didn’t disappoint. Marks were allotted to recipes on the basis of taste, temperature and presentation, with BIG Chef Sethi announcing the winner and two runners up. Puja Beri, who was crowned Rasoi Ki Rani Winner, won a microwave oven, the 1st runner up got a cutlery set while the 2nd runner up received an induction cooker.

“For me it was a dream comes true. I’m very happy to have won the Rasoi ki Rani event. I think 92.7 BIG FM Delhi hosted an excellent initiative by inviting women to showcase their culinary skills and to bring our talent out in the open. Competitions like these can be instrumental in encouraging women by providing a platform to showcase their cooking skills which this far, has remained restricted to the kitchens!” said Rasoi ki Rani Winner, Puja Beri.

“This initiative gave the women a platform to showcase their skill sets that they often receive no acknowledgement for. We are thankful to the ladies from Delhi for coming forward in such large numbers and making this event truly a challenging one. I guarantee that Tum Hi Ho is not an inspired song

The most recent flick of the year 2013 is Aashiqui 2. The music of the film is mesmerizing and it is said that because of the music the film was such a huge success. One of the major hits of the movie is the song ‘Tum Hi Ho’. The song is written and composed by the 28 years old music director, Mithoon. He started his musical journey from the movie Zeher in 2005. Mithoon’s father Naresh Sharma gave the music for the 1993 film ‘Aashiqui’. Looks like the music of Aashiqui runs in their family!

Mithoon composed the music for 3 songs in the film- Tum Hi Ho, Meri Aashiqui and a Theme song. These are some of the few highlights from the conversation with Mithoon.

Your songs were one of the reasons that made Aashiqui 2 a huge success. What do u have to say on that?

If that’s the thing, then I am very happy that the audience liked my music.

Did you think that even Aashiqui 2’s music will be liked by the audience?

Whenever I compose a music, I try my level best that I don’t disappoint the audience with my music. Even this time I was in the similar mind set. I am very happy that they liked my music.

Tum Hi Ho is sung by a new artist. Didn’t you feel that you are taking a risk?

No, never. Because, Arijit’s voice is new and smooth. I always try to give a chance to the new and upcoming artists.

It’s always that whenever a song gets popular amongst the audience, later it is discovered that the song is ‘inspired’ by some European or an American song. Will the same happen with Tum hi ho? This will surely break your fans’ hearts.

No, nothing like that will happen. I guarantee that ‘Tum Hi Ho’ is not an inspired song.

You have given music majority of the times for Bhatt camp. Is there any special reason for that?

The reason is that, my father Naresh Sharma gave music for many of Bhatt Sir’s films and even I started my carrier with his film Zeher and then came Murder 2 and Jism 2.

Is it true that you do not want to give music for any of the item number songs?

Yes it is true. I don’t want to make music which will offend people. I respect women and I want to make music which will not disrespect them.

When will we listen to the next Tum hi Ho.?

I am doing many films. Amongst them are Veda, Bhaag Johnny, Traffic and Hate story-2.

Akshay Kumar works with Skyfall action director Greg Powell for an upcoming Bollywood remake of a Tamil hit film

Leaving no stone unturned to ensure that their film features stunning action, the makers of Akshay Kumar’s next have flown down London-based Hollywood action director Greg Powell. The film, tentatively titled Pistol, is the Hindi remake of Tamil thriller Thuppakki (2012). AR Murugadoss of Ghajini (2008) fame, who directed the south version, will helm the Hindi remake as well.

“This is the first Bollywood film I’m working on and the experience has been great. The Indian crew is extremely professional. The special effects teams are good too,” says Greg, who has worked on Skyfall (2012) and is looking forward to his next Hollywood release, the upcoming Fast & Furious 6. Ask him about the experience of directing action star Akshay and he says, “Akshay is extremely enthusi astic about trying out new things. He rehearses a lot and is very, very fast. His skills are really good. In fact, he was jumping from one building to another the other day and pulled it off very well.”

Greg also believes that Akshay’s love for fitness has come in handy while performing stunts. “For his age, Akshay is super fit. And because he practices a lot of stunts before finally performing them, things get a lot easier. I test each and every stunt personally,” says Greg
