Actor Manasi Rachh gifts herself a profession on her birthday!

A noted theatre person, Manasi Rachh has already been spotted and written about exclusively for her aesthetically played characters including Sunil Shanbag’s Walking to the Sun, an adaptation of Tagore’s Dak Ghar. The young actor is polishing her natural talent through the fine craft of theatre, and the experience and rigour is something that has brought a lot of discipline and experience when she faces the camera today.

But ask her how it all began and she muses, “I use to work as an AD by day, but by night I would like to go to theatre rehearsals, theatre festivals because I always liked the idea of a live performance. I use to work for ads, and as much fun as that was, but there one usually sticks to the lines, and you can’t really explore a variety of emotions in advertising like you can with theatre, and I wanted to explore more. One day while attending a theatre rehearsal for a show, a girl who uses to play a certain part was not available. There was not much time left before the show opened, and everyone was worried who would fill her shoes. People had often seen me hanging around the sets, and the director asked me if I wanted to play that particular role. It was very difficult initially as I had three days to learn all the lines, but when the show took off and I was performing, it gave me a kick like nothing ever had in spite of me having done so much already! Somewhere along the same time, close to my birthday I realized I was going to gift myself something different this time around. And a workshop on acting was also starting exactly on the day of my birthday. Katrina Kaif tops Ormax’s Stars India Loves (SIL) survey*

Having emerged the most powerful celebrity endorser earlier this year
,in a celebrity-brand
association recall study conducted by Ormax Media and also ranked the Most
Favorite Film Star – Female in the Small Wonders report by the consumer
knowledge and consulting firm, Katrina Kaif adding another feather to her
hat made her way to the top 10 female stars India loves (SIL) that was
carried out by an independent monthly survey conducted by Ormax.

SIL is a monthly track conducted by Ormax Media, to track the most favorite
Bollywood male and female stars. This is done among 3250 cine-goers, across
16 cities in India.

What’s even more impressive ,is that Katrina Kaif remains the only actor to
top the survey across all the 16 cities of India, beating the likes of her
male contemporaries.

Explaining her achievement says acclaimed critic and trade analyst Taran
Adarsh “Despite being the only star in the top league to not have a Rs 100
crore film until Ek Tha Tiger happened, she has been reigning at the BO.
That’s because her success ratio is among the highest in Bollywood,”

Day 7 – Nominations sets the Bigg Boss house on fire

Dinesh Lal Yadav is announced as the first evictee of Bigg Boss season 6 and all the housemates see him off as he leaves the house. The housemates are seen consoling and hugging each other as they are rather sad and upset about the Bhojpuri star’s exit from the house.

The housemates were not over one shock, that Bigg Boss puts them in another predicament as he announces the commencement of the coming week’s nominations. All the housemates go inside the confession room and nominate two contestants each with the exception of Navjot Singh Sidhu who refuses to cast in his votes as he feels it is going against his principles. Bigg Boss warns Sidhu that if he doesn’t nominate anybody, he will be forced to punish him. Sidhu accepts his punishment willingly.

Introducing a twist in the tale, Bigg Boss announces Sidhu’s punishment – he nominates every housemate in the house for eviction! The minute the announcement is made; all the housemates are shell shocked. A few laugh, but most of them are upset & angry. Sidhu is seen completely fine with this harsh punishment. Soon the housemates split up in small groups and start discussing this unforeseen situation. The housemates argue, discuss and eventually fall asleep in a disturbed state of mind.

The next morning the arguments, discussions and repercussions of the nominations continue as the housemates discuss whether the punishment meted out is fair on everyone. The housemates take turns and explain their point of view to Sidhu & request him to consider nominating somebody and not make everyone else suffer. Vrijesh & Niketan play the biggest role in convincing Sidhu to nominate two housemates. Here, we see Urvashi and Rajeev get in to an argument as Urvashi blames Rajeev for having a fickle nature – one moment talking highly of Sidhu yet at the same time not respecting his decision to not nominate anyone. Finally, however, Sidhu gives in and nominates two people he wants evicted from the house. In the end, three housemates are nominated for next week’s eviction, allowing the other housemates to breath a sigh of relief. After that, a face off is announced between the nominated three, of whom the winner will be exempted from eviction.

The face off keeps the housemates entertained, leaving the most deserving winner excited about being saved from eviction. After many ups and downs, the day ends on a high note as Bigg Boss sends in Karan Johar’s gift hamper for the housemates. Sapna Bhavnani is the most excited and literally jumps on Vrijesh and dances all around the house along with the other housemates, celebrating on receiving a ‘coffee’ from Karan – indeed a BIG luxury in the Bigg Boss house!

“I have been an actress for the past Eight years now. I know nothing other than acting. I don’t differentiate between small screen and big screen. In both the version, I feel that an actress’ job is to emote in front of the camera. I want to remain happy irrespective of wherever I am. I think many hours of my life at the shooting spot than I spend at my house.

“I didn’t have any inkling that the serial would have such a large ‘reach’. I haven’t played any negative roles in films and trying it for the first time on small screen now. It’s indeed a novel experience for me. My mother watches the serial everyday and points out whatever mistakes I might have made in portraying my character. Given a choice, I’d love to play negative roles in films too,” concludes Yasmeen.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign’s landmarks illumination initiative unites worldwide monuments & landmarks to shine pink – calling attention to the importance of breast health and early detection. Jaslok hospital joins an illustrious league of international landmarks that are part of the global tradition, like theEmpire State Building (New York, USA), Sydney Opera House (Sydney, Australia), Louvre Museum (Paris, France), Burj Al-Arab (Dubai, UAE), Beijing Olympic Pool (Beijing, China), Tokyo Tower (Tokyo, Japan), Bandra-Worli Sea Link (Mumbai), Taj Mahal Palace Hotel (Mumbai), among many others. Serving as symbols of hope and empowerment, the illuminations aim to spread the life-saving message of early detection in an exciting and dramatic way.

On this occasion, Jaslok Hospital has proudly announced a FREE Women’s Cancer Screening Camp till the end of this month as October is internationally recognised as breast cancer month.

Jaslok Hospital also presented India’s First ‘AUTOMATED BREAST VOLUME SCANNER’ (ABVS). The ABVS helps acquire, analyze and report on detailed sonographic volumes of intricate breast anatomy and pathology.

The initiative was supported by Women’s Cancer Initiative – Tata Memorial Hospital, a foundation started by Devieka S. Bhojwani that focuses on alleviating the physical, emotional and financial suffering associated with cancers in women. It aims to aid R&D, hold annual international conferences, increase awareness and raise funds.

Breast cancer survivors shared inspiring stories of them overcoming the traumas they, along with their families, go through, in the fight against this life threatening disease. Ms.Bharti Shah, who was treated at Jaslok shared her experience that with right diagnosis & right treatment, it can be completely cured.

Padma Vibhushan Dr. S. H Advani [Director Medical Oncology, Jaslok Hospital] said, “Breast Cancer is seeing an alarming rise in our country. An estimated 2.2 lakh women are expected to be diagnosed with Breast Cancer this year. In Mumbai and Delhi alone, there are 25 – 30 new cases per one lakh women each year and emphasized the fact that Screening is the only way of prevention”.

Dr. (Col.) R. R. Pulgaonkar, CEO, Jaslok Hospital, said, “We are happy to have acquired this scanner which provides a 3D detail of the whole breast relatively swiftly which was not possible before. It will also benefit patients with minimal compression during examinations, allowing them breathe comfortably with a less stressful experience”.
