Has Brand Shekhar Suman diluted?

Much before Arnab Goswami of Times Now took over the title, Indian television was ruled by the first Badshah of Blah-Blah – Shekhar Suman; who his then publicist Dale Bhagwagar branded in the media as ‘The First Superstar of Indian Television’.

And boy oh boy!! How the actor deserved the branding! Shekhar swept one and all on television with his inimitable style and wit on Movers and Shakers (popularly known as M&S), till it became a trademark! He was loved, hated, but never ignored! He moved you so bad you wanted to shake him up real good!

Some called him the badshah of bullshit, bakwaas, bedlam, blah-blah, the king of kitsch. Putting inane questions to (in)famous people, he was billed the Indian Jay Leno and Jerry Springer.

A poll on a website rated him as one of the most repugnant artistes on TV. But inspite of this backlash, everyone tuned in to watch him as he appeared on the small screen five late nights a week on Movers & Shakers – such was the programme’s pull and addiction.

But when Brand Shekhar Suman returned in his original avatar with the new season of M&S, it didn’t quite create the expected ripples. By now, even his earlier publicist Dale Bhagwagar had moved on to other television superstars such as the lovingly-charming Ram Kapoor of Bade Achhe Lagte Hai superfame and chocolatey Amar Upadhyay of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhio Bahu Thi and Bigg Boss fame.

But when we called Dale to ask him about Shekhar Suman, he surprised us with glowing comments! “Like Amitabh Bachchan, who has bounced back umpteen times, Shekhar too could well surprise us by making another comeback! Don’t write him off yet,” said the PR specialist.

Shahid Kapoor opts out due to a packed schedule ahead.

The start of Maneesh Sharma’s next directorial untitled film has been postponed. The film was originally scheduled to go on floor this September.

Both Maneesh and Jaideep Sahni, who has written the story and screenplay, along with Aditya Chopra, have taken a creative decision to include lip-sync songs, which were earlier not part of the film.

The unfortunate fallout of this is that Shahid Kapoor, who was to play the lead, has had to pull out because of his other commitments. With three other projects back to back, Shahid is not able to readjust his dates to accommodate the revised schedule.

Maneesh, speaking on behalf of both Jaideep and himself, said: “Both Jaideep and I have decided to bring in a couple of lip-sync songs which will need to be recorded before we can go on floor. However, it is sad that Shahid has understandably had to opt out because of this delay given his packed schedule going forward.”

While this development is a pity, YRF looks forward to working with Shahid Kapoor on another project being discussed with him for next year.

Please await further details on the shooting schedule for Maneesh Sharma’s film.

‘ZAPUN ZAPUN’, Marathi version of chartbuster ‘ISHQ DE GALLI WICH NO ENTRY’

The Marathi remake of the film NO ENTRY PUDHE DHOKA AAHEY releasing on 7th September, definitely packs a punch, much like the Hindi blockbuster did. From the script to the song compositions are as bold vibrant and entertaining much like its Hindi counterpart. Some of the songs from the movie are Zapun Zapun, Khullam Khulla and Gokula, composed by Nakaash and Sargam.

Zapun Zapun, is the counterpart of the song Ishq De Galli Wich No Entry from the Hindi version. Sai Tamhankar who plays the bold role of Bipasha Basu in the movie does not lack in zest and moves when she does this little item number, much like Bipasha did in the hindi version. The song is set in a club, with Ankush Chaudhari (who plays Salman’s role) and Bharat Jadhav (who plays Anil Kapoor’s role) looking on as Saie sways her hips dancing to the heart thumping catchy tune. This song packs quiet a punch with its hip thrusting dance moves and catchy lyrics.

When asked about her performance in this dance number she is quick to retort, “It was so much fun doing this song. The tune is really catchy and I know the audience will agree with me when they hear it.” “I think it’s a privilege to try and fit the role essayed by Bipasha Basu. And I am sure I have not disappointed her with my dance number,” she smiles and adds.

Sonu Nigam,Anu Malik, Sunidhu Chauhan, Sajid Wajid, Jahnvi and Swapnil have together and done the music written by lyricist Guru (Gurunath) Thakur, and composed by Nakaash and Sargam.

Brno, August 26, 2012: With both regular riders out injured, Mahindra substitute rider Miroslav Popov raised the team’s spirits and proved the MGP-30 machine’s progress with a stirring race in difficult mixed conditions at Brno.

Although in the end it came to naught, with the 17-year-old Czech GP novice crashing with five of the 19 laps of the 5.403-km track remaining, his performance until then had been extraordinary. He showed not only his own precocious skill and bravery, but also affirmed that the latest upgrades moved the Mahindra another step forward in the quest to achieve competitiveness in the 250cc four-stroke Moto3™ class.

While full-time riders trod cautiously on a dry surface with extensive damp patches, Popov rode at maximum risk, moving from 29th on the grid to sixth at the end of the first lap, then pressing on through to third place on lap four.

In only his fourth GP, at a track where he has limited experience, he was still in the top five at half distance. By then the seasoned title contenders had come to terms with the tricky drying surface, and he was soon among a big pack of the best and most experienced riders in the class. But he was not over-awed, and was battling hard to stay in the points when a clash with another rider put him onto a wet patch and he slipped off unhurt, gesturing angrily at the departing pack.

Excited Mahindra Racing CEO Mufaddal Choonia could not praise his efforts enough. “Popov did a fantastic job. When the track was half-wet and half-dry, he had a good rhythm.

“I am happy because the bike was also good, and we have made another little step. We have found reliability and a better top speed. We just need a little more acceleration now,” said Choonia.

Popov’s performance helped to further elevate the team’s mood; following the good news that was released on Friday evening, when senior Mahindra executive Mr. S. P. Shukla, President, Mahindra Group Strategy and Member – Group Executive Board, announced the Indian company’s new collaboration with Swiss racing company Suter Racing Technology.

Working closely with Mahindra’s own engineers, SRT will develop an all-new engine and chassis for the Indian automotive giant’s 2013 Moto3 efforts.

“I can’t say we will be competitive from the beginning, but we will work day and night to achieve success in the shortest possible time,” said Mr. Shukla.

The Mahindra MGP-30 is one of a small handful of independent machines in a field of proprietary motorcycles from established racing manufacturers. The only Indian team in the championship chose the harder route but ultimately more rewarding path of developing its own machine, to take advantage of the technological lessons for Mahindra’s range of street motorcycles and scooters.

The race was won by German Jonas Folger, his first victory of the year.

“In the first laps the other riders were going only on the dry line. I took more risks on wet patches, and it paid off – I got up to third. It was a fantastic feeling: I didn’t expect that in only my fourth Grand Prix. Later I was among a big group of fast riders, and maybe my mistake was to try to stay with them – braking very late and going very fast in the corners. The Mahindra chassis means you can ride hard like that. I was fighting back after someone passed me and we touched and he put me onto a wet patch, and I crashed. Sorry for that.”

Danny Webb made history when he secured pole position in Valencia in the last race of the 125cc era. In the CIV in Italy, the team competes in the 125 GP Class with ex-Italian Champion Riccardo Moretti. The team became the first from India to win an international motorsport event when Riccardo took the chequered flag at the season-opening race of the CIV in Mugello, Italy on 25 March, 2012. Since then, the team has recorded five victories from seven races with only one round remaining.
