50 per cent cosmetics sold OTC in India are fake or spurious and harmful to the human skin in the long run

Friday 31st May 2013; Mumbai: Ayurveda expert Dr Samir Mansuri and his team of doctors at Ocean Miracle including former Principal of the Govt Akhandanand Ayurveda College and Hospital, Ahmedabad, Dr G K Mansuri – who holds an MD in ayurveda and is a member of the CCIM – Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India – conducted an in-depth and comprehensive survey and study of cosmetic and beauty products available in the Indian market over the counter and without prescription. The findings of the study and survey reveal that:

1. 1. About 50 per cent of all cosmetics and beauty or skin care products sold over the counter in India are either fake or spurious or both or whose shelf life has expired and are harmful to the human skin in the long run.

2. 2. Many products do not have the mandatory Government of India manufacturing license for cosmetic products.

3. 3. About 65 per cent of unbranded (or unknown brands) products have harmful ingredients or compounds including synthetically produced elements, ingredients and compounds.

4. 4. Even ayurvedic products manufactured by FMCG giants contain ingredients obtained from herbs and plants or plant extracts grown artificially and not organically.

5. 5. Overdoses of pesticides remain as residues in such ayurvedic products. Most ayurvedic products sold in India as beauty and cosmetic products are not tested for residual pesticides.

6. 6. According to Dr Samir Mansuri, if bottled water and colas manufactured by large international FMCG brands and monitored by several NGOs can contain high level of pesticides, one can only attempt to imagine the situation with medicinal and non-medicinal cosmetic products manufactured with herbal and plant extracts and sold OTC as ayurvedic medicines.

The survey was conducted over two months and about 500 products were tested by the team of doctors and experts including Dr Samir Mansuri and Dr G K Mansuri both at research labs and facilities in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

Following these startling results of the survey, Dr Samir Mansuri has launched the “Save Our Skin” social media and online campaign to spread awareness about fake, spurious and harmful beauty and cosmetic products sold in India without any regulation or restriction.

Dr Samir Mansuri – Profile

Dr Samir Mansuri was born blind as a bat. His tale of woe began as soon as he was born. Gifted with a very keen sense of hearing which he was conscious of since a young age, his family sent him to an NGO-run boarding school for the blind.

Dumped by his family as a liability and a “curse” he left home and moved to Hyderabad after completing his high school education because his family considered him a “burden”. Living on railway platforms, sleeping beneath stair cases and working in massage parlors as a masseur to earn his living and save money for his higher education, Dr Samir Mansuri completed his graduation in Arts and went on to do a specialization in Ayurveda. A chance encounter with an 89-year-old traditional Ayurvedic doctor Guru Shamshuddin changed his career. From a masseur – he had excelled as one and had earned a loyal clientele by then – he began to use his professional training as a doctor and began to practice medicine. Shamshuddin taught him the art and science of pulse diagnosis and the secrets of herbal connotations and cures. He assisted Dr Shamshuddin for about four years tuning and honing his skills and techniques at the same time gathering voluble and invaluable hands-on experience. With this wealth of knowledge, including his by-now well-honed skills in pulse diagnosis Dr Samir Mansuri obtained a medical practitioner’s license in Hyderabad in 1999 and went ahead to innovate and produce a range of eco-organic herbal beauty care products which he today promotes under his brand name Ocean Miracle.

Dr Samir Mansuri and Ocean Miracle

Ayurveda specialist Dr Samir Mansoori has introduced Ocean Miracle – a range of eco-organic beauty products which include face packs, scrubs and other facial-related products like gels and creams. The USP of Dr Samir Mansoori’s Ocean Miracle range is the fact that the ingredients are totally organic and natural and are not chemically treated or altered. Says Dr Samir Mansoori, “My products are 100 per cent natural. All the constituents are 100 per cent organic. There is no synthetic or chemical component at all and hence zero percent chances of any after effects or allergic reactions.” Several film stars and sports persons swear by Dr Samir Mansoori’s Ocean Miracle range of products and cannot do without them.

Dr Samir Mansoori believes that even a blind or sightless person can have a vision Dr Samir Mansoori was born blind and has reached great heights at an early age due to his perseverance and hard work. He is very spiritual and holds his Guruji in very high esteem. He did not let his disability bother him at all and he kept going with his research and development. The long hours spent on R&D have helped him immensely, making him an expert authority on ayurvedic medicine, particularly for skin-related issues. The range of products includes an anti-aging miracle potion which is yet to be patented and officially released commercially.

Akshay Kumar and Shoojit Sircar launch the country’s first crowdsourced National Anthem

National 31st May, 2013: My Nation My Anthem initiative was launched on 26th January, 2013 to commemorate India’s Republic Day. The initiative gave young filmmakers, musicians and singers an opportunity to render their interpretation of the Anthem to create India’s first-ever Crowdsourced Anthem. The project was crowdsourced on Talenthouse India in association with PVR Cinemas, Worldoo, Rising Sun Films and Rampage Motion Pictures.

Talenthouse India identified the National Anthem to be the biggest unifier for India and a symbol of our diversity. My Nation My Anthem campaign received more than 500 interpretations of the Jana Gana Mana, originally created by Noble prize winner, a great humanitarian and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore. Analyzing each interpretation, a team from Talenthouse, Shoojit Sircar and Ram Mirchandani handpicked the finest talent who were then creatively supervised to produce the two final films. The anthem created by these young budding talents will be now showcased at PVR Cinemas across Maharashtra for millions of people to appreciate the young talent of India.

The young winners of My Nation My Anthem are Devansh Bhatia the musician, Saurabh Shetye the singer, Aashini Shah & Vishwesh Kolvalkar filmmakers of the first film. This film showcases the tech savvy youngsters of our nation getting inspired by an act of patriotism to stand up and be proud of their nation. The second team included Nijo Johnson & Rohit Gaba who chose to show patriotism through the eyes of children. Every student comes dressed as one freedom fighter to give recognition to our forgotten heroes,

Akshay Kumar said “My clear favorite is the National Anthem film featuring kids as I liked the concept of forgotten heroes brought to life by little children.”

Shoojit Sircar of Rising Sun Films said, “My Nation My Anthem has stayed true to its promise to evoke patriotism within us towards our country and fellow Indians. It was an overwhelming experience to see young talent across India working together to create something so powerful. There are no boundaries when it comes to creativity and that is very evident how these young winners have established something in the resource provided to them”

Ajay Bijli, Chairman & Managing Director of PVR Ltd. said, “The campaign My Nation My Anthem is unique and innovative concept. We are very thrilled to have been a part of this project and we look forward to screening young India’s interpretation of the National Anthem across our theatres in Maharashtra.”

Monish Ghatalia, Managing Director, Focus Circle Group said, “worldoo.com is all about kids – their likes, their heroes and their unique forms of expressions. Thus the association with the crowdsourced kids National Anthem was seamless. This generation spends a lot of their time online. Hence we are supporting this initiative by showcasing the kid’s national anthem exclusively on www.worldoo.com/anthem for the first few days and then spreading the campaign on other platforms like Facebook, YouTube etc. My Nation My Anthem initiative gave us an opportunity to stay committed to our brand promise of offering something new, always.”

Ram Mirchandani, CEO, Rampage Motion Pictures said, “At a point of time when there is a high degree of negativity and despondency, Rampage Motion Pictures wants the youth of India to believe and take pride in the nation. Our youth is our greatest asset and the most powerful resource that the nation possesses. My Nation My Anthem is an endeavour to connect this youth to the values and the vision of our great nation. This is a very small way of showing appreciation, of giving back to Young India and to the future of our country.”

Expressing his happiness Arun Mehra, CEO, Talenthouse India said, “At Talenthouse we aim to provide a life changing opportunity to India’s young and budding artists. My Nation My Anthem was one such initiative that gave young individuals all between the age group of 19 to 27 years their big break. I thank all our partners and young talent who supported us to make this initiative a success.”

Along with the winners Talenthouse India will now empower the people across the country by giving them a chance to stand up and be proud by joining the movement to Dil Se Sing Jana Gana Mana.
