Vidya Balan’s Cannes appearances receives a thumps up from Indian designers

While everyone on home turf seems to be discussing Vidya Balan’s sartorial choices on the red carpet ,as she traveled to the French Riviera as part of the prestigious 9-member jury, the actress and her designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee remain unfazed with criticism ,reiterating that the National Award winner aims to represent the country’s cultural heritage and not mainstream glamour ,as India celebrates 100 years of Hindi cinema.

Voicing his vision behind the clothing says Sabyasachi, “Vidya is very clear that she is an actress and nothing more… She clearly kept saying that I and she both shouldn’t forget that she was going there as a jury member and the look should be very, very respectable,”

Vidya’s outfit’s infact had even caught Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone’s attention as he approached her to compliment her on her unique sense of dressing – On home turf too several designers from the fashion fraternity have voiced their support towards her look and styling.

Says designer Anna Singh, “Vidya is looking fine in Cannes… Rekha has worn sarees for more than four decades to almost every place where she goes. Have you seen Hema Malini donning any other garb since the longest time? Vidya is the authentic face of our country and we want her to wear international gowns!Gosh!”.

Adds Sandeep Khosla who has designed for several international names, “Vidya overall has looked so radiant. And we have forgotten that she has done India proud by getting selected as a jury member. Sad but true. Also, I am very disturbed by people criticising the embroidery on Vidya’s sarees. Embroidery goes from India to all the other parts of the world. Why are we so mesmerised by globalization?”.

One of the hugest honors for a star to receive, Vidya Balan was selected as jury member at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, joining the likes of Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman, director Ang Lee, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, British scriptwriter-director-producer Lynne Ramsay, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil, Romanian scriptwriter-director-producer Cristian Mungiu and Austrian actor Christopher Waltz as part of the nine-member jury.

The advent of technology has provided multitude of options for consumers to receive goods and services without even leaving their homes. Retail management professionals are highly sought after by recruiters from retail, apparel, and merchandising companies. AAT ACADEMY in association with SAE College is offering an under graduate course in Product merchandising and Graphic story-telling, for the students who have that creative tick in them. Designers have a huge influence on the form, function and style of many of the objects we use in our daily lives.

Product Merchandising Design course begins by developing an appreciation for style and product quality, learning to communicate verbally and visually about design, and gain the business knowledge and skills required to promote an aesthetically grounded point of view in the marketplace. The program prepares the students to make merchandising and marketing decisions based on knowledge of visual/aesthetic and business considerations.

This programme encompasses elements from industrial design, graphic design, human psychology, sociology, and management domains. This course one can hone the skills in the essential mechanics of drawing, from figures, backgrounds, and perspectives, to inking, colouring, and working with different materials. Through the use of computers and other digital technology one will learn to produce and transform traditional works of drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and typography into digital renders.

Students of Graphic Storytelling will begin by learning the origin and evolution of the visual narrative form, while simultaneously learning its language and grammar. Draughtsmanship, craft skills and technical knowledge of a broad range of media is then taught, giving the student the flexibility to work on a variety of medium. They also study body language of characters, their gestures and facial expressions and natural phenomena.

Students will learn how to develop story structure, script stories, establish characters and visualise and interpret stories creating effective, intelligent and lyrical illustrations to highlight the mood, visual rhythm, lighting, background, costumes and architectural planning of scenes. Since the most common intent is for reproduction, the students also learn Digital Printing technologies, the various distribution means and the nuance of the working of the Publishing Business.

Kunaal Roy Kapur: Redefining Comedy in India

Kunaal Roy Kapur is increasingly turning into one the actors that the industry can’t do without. Kunaal blew up in the feature film scene with his remarkable performance in Delhi Belly, a black comedy directed by Abhinay De. Only one Bollywood film old, Kunaal managed to bag the co-lead with Ayushman Khurana in the Nautanki Saala, where the verdict was unanimously in his favor, fans and critics alike.

Because of his straight face humour and impeccable timing, Kunaal has managed to carve a niche for himself which is making him the pick of the town for roles with certain quirkiness. After Delhi Belly’s huge success, Kunal Roy Kapur and Vir Das will be seen once again in Kabir Sadanand’s tentatively titled film Gollu Aur Pappu.

Kapur says that this film will be different form their last joint venture , Delhi belly “It is going to be a family comedy unlike Delhi Belly, which was an adult comedy. It is a bromance and hopefully people especially kids will like it.”

Kunaal choosing not to divulge too much about the film went on to state “People know me for my comedy, hence most of the roles offered to me are in the comic space. But, I don’t want to limit myself; I would take up any interesting role that comes my way. The script is of prime importance, so if the script is interesting, I will agree to do the film.”

Viacom is still has refrained from letting the names of the leading ladies to come out and will be making the announcement shortly themselves.

Meanwhile, Kapur will be seen doing a cameo in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which releases on May 31.

On a different front, Kunnal is busy finalizing the cast of his directorial venture. Kunaal talking about his second outing as a director says, “dark comedy set in Mumbai and will have a social message to it.”

The film will go on the floors by the end of this year.
