Monday, 27 January 2014: GRACE OF MONACO starring Nicole Kidman has been selected to open the world renowned Cannes Film Festival on May 14. YRF Entertainment and Stone Angels produced the film.

The film will screen out of competition in Cannes’ Official Selection and the opening ceremony will be broadcast to a number of participating cinemas.

Directed by Olivier Dahan and Produced by Uday Chopra, Pierre-Ange le Pogam and Arash Amel, who also wrote the screenplay, GRACE OF MONACO will be released worldwide. The Weinstein Company will distribute the film in the U.S.

An ecstatic Uday Chopra said about the thrilling news “I knew from the moment I read the wonderful script, penned by Arash Amel, that we had something special in GRACE OF MONACO and watching Nicole bring that character to life only increased my excitement about the project. I guess today, after viewing the film, The Cannes Film Festival agrees with our belief in the movie and shares in our excitement. I feel proud that YRF Entertainment in its first release in Hollywood has managed to reach this milestone. My only regret is that my Dad is not alive to see this happen.”

GRACE OF MONACO tells the story of efforts by the late Princess Grace of Monaco (the former Grace Kelly, played by Nicole Kidman) to make peace between her adopted country and France. Grace, just 33 years old and having just given up an acting career to become Monaco’s First Lady, maneuvered through a political minefield to resolve the situation, as detailed in the film.

Among other projects, YRF Entertainment is also producing Arash Amel’s follow-up to GRACE OF MONACO. This is an adaptation of Chris Greenhalgh’s SEDUCING INGRID BERGMAN.

Highway Diaries-the Ajmer all-nighter..

Siddharth Malhotra and Sahil Anand made their Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year. Both the actors have crossed swords for the box office pie as their second film Hasee Toh Phasee (starring Siddharth & Parineeti Chopra) and Babloo Happy Hai (starring Sahil & Erica Fernandes) are releasing on the same day.

Says a source, “Directed by ‘I Am Kalam’ fame Nila Madhab Panda, Babloo Happy Hai was scheduled to release on 31st January, 2014 but now it has ended up releasing with Hasee Toh Phasee.”

Mumbai 26th January: On the occasion of our republic day, Laxmi Dhaul, Sidharth Bhatia and Shruti Seth discussed the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and his relevance in today’s world at India Non-Fiction Festival (INFF). The audience was rightly fascinated and inspired. The event also marked the launch of ‘Magic Mantras’ by Laxmi Dhaul, a book that in the words of Shruti Seth is a guiding light for young adults in particular and everyone else in general, towards a peaceful tomorrow.

‘Acting Smart your Ticket to Showbiz’ by Tisca Chopra, which talks about the world of Cinema was launched by Imtiaz Ali. The session was peppered with wit, humour and many interesting anecdotes.

Flavours, food and their cultural as well as emotional references were discussed in great taste by the renowned chef Vicky Ratnani, Kunal Vijayakar and Farzana Contractor. While Dr. Rajat Chauhan along with Charles Assisi motivated the audience to look for deeper meaning in life and a happiness that comes from within.

The session ‘Non Fiction hitting hard’ was exciting and controversial to say the least. The audiences sat on the edge of their seats as the lives of Dawood Ibrahim, Karim Lala and Bal Thackerray was discussed by the esteemed reporters Hussain Zaidi, Harish Nambiar and Vaibhav Purandare. Questions like “Does Sharad Pawar lead Dawood Ibrahim or vice versa?” to “Do crime reports get pressurized by the government?” from the audiences was an indication of the palpable stimulation and interest by one and all.

Keeping in tune with the action packed day, the evening ended with Raghu Ram talking about his personal life, the failure of our education system and our highly competitive culture in the session ‘Man, Roadie: Raghu Ram’ with Kumaar Bagrodia. The day ended with Raghu Ram singing ‘Manmani’ on popular demand.

The book is a guide for all those who want to become actors or are just interested in the world of Cinema. Talking on the subject of casting couch Ali said a little ruefully, “Unfortunately no one has ever approached me that way”. The audience were definitely fascinated by these two personalities relating stories from the glamour world.

Ace musician Lesle Lewis who pioneered Coke Studio in India performed live on the streets of Mumbai for the first time since he was 18 today at Sachin and Sageeta Ahir’s Worli Festival 2014. Lesle’s mother came to cheer him and her joy knew no bounds after she saw the crowd, the passers-by everyone going gaga over Lesle’s songs. He performed to his own compositions like Yaaron, Pari Hoon Main, Kaizala and his own versions of songs like Tum Hi Ho Mata Pita Tumhi Ho (which he of course dedicated to his mother sitting in the audience), Dum Maaro Dum Dum and many others. Playing god-mother to one of Bollywood’s hottest finds,Shilpa Shetty Kundra is all set to launch her newest discovery – the gorgeous Ayesha Khanna , a former YRF stylist who makes her big Bollywood debut with ESM & Eros International’s Dishkiyaoon.

Having worked as a stylist on Band Baaja Baarat and Ladies v/s Ricky Bhel , Ayesha was discovered by actress and producer Shilpa Shetty Kundra who encouraged her to audition for her home production. Ayesha who met with the makers as the stylist of the film had everyone floored when she auditioned for 2 scenes after much coaxing – Ever since there was no looking back.

Confirming the news says producer Shilpa Shetty Kundra,”I’ve trained her, been around for her photo sessions and whenever she shot for the film. Whatever I’ve learned through my career, I’ve passed it on to her. We’ve given her a complete makeover. Even though she’s a stylist herself, I’ve helped her with the costumes.”

Says Ayesha, “I’m extremely grateful to Shilpa ,I never thought I could do it but she encouraged me all the way.She was also very protective of me during the film’s shoot and would keep encouraging me”.

Every story needs a soil, for the characters to be relatable and identifiable. As soon as you add context to the characters their actions emit emotions that makes the storytelling more soulful. The 1971 chapter in Gunday does exactly that. It tells who Bikram and Bala are and why they become what they become- unbeatable, unstoppable and inseparable Gundays.
