Cinema Veterans at the Hindi curtain raiser of Eros International and MediaOne Global’s Kochadaiiyaan.

The Hindi curtain raiser of Eros International and MediaOne Global’s magnum opus Kochadaiiyaan turned out to be an affair to remember, with the biggest names in Bollywood and dignitaries from the South gracing the occasion as director Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin introduced the city to India’s first ever photo realistic motion capture film.

While Shah Rukh Khan flew to Chennai for the Tamil trailer launch of  Kochadaiiyaan , the Hindi curtain raiser launch saw Amitabh Bachchan attend as chief guest.

Hosted by Kunal Roy Kapoor ,the event took place at a popular multiplex in the suburbs with special German technology employed for a  live streaming of the event in the adjacent screens.

On the occasion said Superstar Rajinikanth, “ Its an emotional moment for me to be present here with all the great names of cinema and my dear friends who have come to bless my daughter on the occasion of her first film.Soundarya has always been obsessed with pictures and images right from her childhood and it was wife Lata who recognized this talent in her and here she is today with Kochadaiiyaan.I hope audiences appreciate the film”.

Said director Soundarya Ashwin Rajnikanth, “I have been passionately involved in film animation techniques and production for the last six years and for Kochadaiiyaan we wanted to do something unique and decided to do this with the use of Motion Capture technology which was never attempted in its full band-with in India before. The technology truly captured the essence of the actor’s performance, but at the same time allowed us unlimited creativity on all grounds from creating character’s looks, building lavish sets, directing expansive fight sequences and creating elaborate costumes. I do hope Kochadaiiyaan will be a game-changer for Indian cinema on a global level”

SafetiPin Receives Avon Global Communications Award for Exemplary Messages to Reduce Violence Against Women and Children

SafetiPin wins Innovative Campaign Award and will receive

USD 5000 Avon Foundation grant to continue work on continuation of their work

Delhi (April 01, 2014) – SafetiPin has been named the recipient of the Innovative Campaign Award for the 3rd Avon Communications Awards: Speaking Out About Violence Against Women.  SafetiPin was one of five organizations across the globe to receive a prestigious award this year, and was honored for Innovative Campaign Award its outstanding communications campaign focusing on ending violence against women and children. The awards are part of the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which has donated nearly $58 million globally to end violence against women since its launch in 2004.

Each year, organizations across the globe are honored for their exemplary communications campaigns helping to change communities, policies, institutions and behaviors. For the 2014 awards, non-governmental organizations from India, the United States, Brazil, and Singapore, and a governmental organization from Australia, were selected as winners for their powerful campaigns.

“Communication and education are critical elements to ignite bystanders into action, and without public awareness and education, bystanders often do not intervene to help in abusive situations,” said Carol Kurzig, Avon Foundation for Women President. “The Avon Communications Award Winners are casting a spotlight on issues that affect one in three women across the globe. We congratulate SafetiPin on their selection as a winner from a very competitive selection process with so many outstanding entries.”

SafetiPin will receive a US $5,000 grant from Avon Foundation to fund the continuation of their work on SafetiPin Mobile Application. SafetiPin is a mobile application that seeks to provide useful information and is a safety tool for women in Indian cities. The app can be used to conduct or view safety audits and its website adds a level of interactivity for its users. SafetiPin was promoted in an advertising campaign with a leading daily newspaper in India.

An international panel of judges selected the winning campaigns from more than 870 communications submitted to the Communications X-Change by 303 organizations in 78 countries, ranging from Albania to Nicaragua to Vietnam. The Innovative Campaign Award recognizes innovative and original approaches to presenting messages about ending violence against women and girls through the best information technology, including mobile technology.

The Communications X-Change is a digital global communications library that enables organizations and advocates throughout the world to find, share, and learn from the best communications material focused on ending violence against women and children. The Communications X-Change was developed and is managed by Futures Without Violence and funded by the Avon Foundation.

“We commend SafetiPin for their innovative use of communications to prevent and ultimately end violence against women and children,” said Esta Soler, Futures Without Violence President and Founder. “Since the launch of the Communications X-Change, we’ve been continually impressed by the creativity and caliber of the submissions. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is an extremely popular and cult film that Zoya Akhtar directed 2 years back. Zoya got the title of her last film, from one of the Excel Entertainment’s Rock On popular song.

Sunny Deol Plays A Haryanvi For The First Time In ‘Dishkiyaoon’

Bollywood macho man Sunny Deol might have played a Sikh character in many of his films, including his last release ‘Singh Saab The Great’, but the actor will be seen playing a Haryanvi character for the very first time in upcoming action-thriller ‘Dishkiyaoon’, which released today.

Producer Shilpa Shetty, who has worked with Sunny in the past and is quite impressed with the way Sunny has pulled off the role, said, “Actors can get complacent after spending many years in the industry. Sunny is usually not the kind to do any homework, but he learnt Haryanvi lehza (diction) for this role.”

On his part, Sunny said, “I have played Punjabi characters many times before and wanted to do something different. My character Lakhwa is quite different from the roles that I have played in the past. Lakhwa is not shy of who he is. He is what he is. And like any normal person, he is good for some and not so nice to others, which makes the character all the more interesting.”

Eros International and ESM’s Dishkiyaoon directed by Sanamjit Singh Talwar starring Harman Baweja, Sunny Deol and Ayesha Khanna is out at a theater near you today.


Bohra goes in for record 35 posters for Mastram

A pen poised on sexy pink lips, a reluctant writer on typewriter with long legs looming large in front of him, the same legs getting out of a Mastram novel, A nib shaped enticingly like a woman’s figure, a nib that looks deceivingly like cleavage, a pole dancer dancing around a pen… 35 quirky posters, each tell a tale of their own for Sunil Bohra’s Mastram, directed by Akhilesh Jaiswal.

The first of its kind marketing initiative for any film, Sunil Bohra feels that there posters are the best way to define the colours of life echoed by Mastram. Says he, “Mastram is a colourful erotica about a series of porn fictional books written by a reluctant writer who pens his novels under the pseudonym Mastram. We felt that these colourful posters that stir your thoughts will give the promotions of the film a newer twist.”

Considering that the poster is a sneek peek into the movie, Bohra seems to have his thoughts in perfect place. Says he, “Mastram is a wacky film with a different take on life. So we thought, why not present several posters instead of the routine two-three,” elaborates Bohra.

Vir Das boldly writes what no man has written before

Adding a tinge of hilarity to this election season, Actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das has written an open letter to those not popularly known for their sense of humour-Politicians Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, the general public, and many others. Not many know but the title ‘Villain’ did not originally belong to Balaji. While the film was under production, the title was being used provisionally.

However director Mohit Suri, the writers and producers (Balaji) were extremely keen to have that title for their Sidharth Malhotra-Riteish Deshmukh-Shraddha Kapoor starrer as they felt that it was extremely powerful and relevant to the subject.

The title was the ownership of yesteryear’s film maker Rajiv Rai, known for blockbusters like ‘Tridev’, ‘Mohra’ and ‘Gupt’. When Balaji requested him recently, he obliged.

Confirms Tanuj Garg, CEO – Balaji Motion Pictures, “Rajiv (Rai) is a dear friend. When I requested him for the title, he consented immediately. He wasn’t planning to produce or direct any film with the title and gave it to us.”
