Rajkumar Hirani launches music of Girish Malik’s celebrated debut film “Jal”

– Musical Maestros and music directors Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh enthralled the audience with a live performance

– Set for a 4 April 2014 release, “Jal” is the only Indian film to be in-competition at Busan International Film Festival and has also been the official selection for the Indian Panorama section at IFFI Goa ‘13

– Produced by OneWorld Films, JAL stars Purab H Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Saidah Jules, Mukul Dev, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Gossain amongst others

19 March 2014, Mumbai: Celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani today, in one of his fewer appearances at a filmi event, launched the music of Girish Malik’s highly anticipated film ‘JAL’. While Saga Music has been signed on as the films music partner, it will be digitally distributed by sister concern Unisys InfoSolutions. One of the key highlights of the evening was a special performance by the film’s debut music director duo, comprising of the legendary singer Sonu Nigam and world renowned percussionist and table maestro Bickram Ghosh.

Held at a suburban stared hotel amongst much fanfare, the special event was attended by the film’s Director-Producer Girish Malik, Producers Puneet Singh and Yogesh Mittal, Co-Producer Ajay Swami, Associate Producer Arun Tyagi, Mr. Diljit Singh – VP-Technology Unisys Infosolutions and Mr. Gaurav Arora – Head- Mobile Business Unisys Infosolutions, Writer Rakesh Mishra, its cast Purab Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Mukul Dev, Saidah Jules and Yashpal Sharma, and esteemed members of the media, amongst others.

Talking about the music in the film, music director Sonu Nigam said: “When Bickram and me decided to turn music directors, it was very clear that though there were many films from which we could choose from, what we would only associate with a film which would not just have a strong script but would also have music as an integral part. When it came to JAL the choice was thus natural, not just were we both really moved by the concept and planned scale of the film but also with Girish Malik’s vision and passion for the film. It also was the right platform to introduce the new sounds and music design that both Bickram and I were very excited about”

A lot of research has gone into film’s music. For example, the film has a larger than life visual of a twister formation that is first you will see on Indian screen, the sounds for that had to be on the level of a symphony but not western at the same time. The background music of the film took almost a year to be completed. It is a very tough film to do backgrounds for as the film has the sounds of nature and a larger than life drama yet in a commercially entertaining mould. We could not have pulled this off without the immediate connect and an absolutely clear understanding of what he wanted. The understanding was so clear between the three of us that Girish immediately fell in love with the musical palate we presented to him,” added Bickram Ghosh.

The films music is a piece of art and a central element of the film. It is inspired by the Rann of Kutch, where the film was shot. The music directors have taken immense inspiration from local Kutchi folk music fusing it with classical and soft rock elements, in addition to Bickram’s brilliant percussions. The album consists of 3 songs, each of which is of a differed genre. The music director duo has also recorded a promotional track ‘Zalima’ which is sung by Sonu Nigam himself introducing a completely new sound. Additionally, the album has songs sung by some of the most celebrated singers of the country including Sonu Nigam, Shubha Mudgal, Ustaad Ghulam Mustafaa Khan and Suzanne. Most of the lyrics have been penned by Sonu Nigam himself.

On the occasion director Girish Malik said: “The visual treatment of the film is epic and surreal and the music had to compliment it. In my search for the sounds of JAL, I came across the percussions of Bickram Ghosh where he had collaborated with musicians like Pete Lockett and Greg Ellis, who did the music for 300. At the same time, I had known Sonu Nigam separately and it was an uncanny coincidence that Bickram and Sonu were collaborating as music directors as well. The choice was natural and it was a real honour that of all the films that they could have chosen to start their journey as music directors with, they chose JAL.”

According to Mr. Diljit Singh, VP- Technology, Unisys Infosolutions, “We are excited to be the digital partners promoting the music of the movie Jal in the online and mobile space. India is an exciting digital-music market with digital music promotions becoming an integral part of any movie’s global music launch strategy. In the first half of 2013, 45 percent of all album sales globally were digital, up from 38 percent the year before (Nielsen). We at Unisys are proud to be one of the pioneers in digital music in India with one of the world’s biggest Indian regional music catalogue.”

Produced by OneWorld, in association with Clapstem Productions and NFDC, and distributed by DAR Film Distributors, “Jal” is the story of a young water diviner, Bakka who is gifted with a special ability to find water in the desert. With the backdrop of water paucity, the film tells a complex and fascinating story of love, relationships, enmity, deceit and circumstances that bring about the dark side of human character. It is a high-octane, action- drama with a shocking climax. Shot on an epic scale, the film is a visual treat and has managed to capture ‘Rann Of Kutch’ like never before prompting even ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ to applaud Jal as “a breathtakingly photographed tragedy of Shakespearean proportions.”

The film is scheduled to hit the silver screen on 4th April 2014. JAL stars Purab H Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Saidah Jules, Mukul Dev, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Gossain amongst others. Furthermore, other credits include: Story & Dialogs- Rakesh Mishra; Screenplay – Girish Malik and Rakesh Mishra; Director of Photography – Sunita Radia, Sound Design- Sound Ideaz Studio, Action – Parvez Khan.

RAJINIKANTH SINGS IN KOCHADAIIYAAN

Debutant director supremo, Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, has achieved a feat that no director in North or South Indian cinema has to date, that being to convince the emperor of Indian cinema, superstar Rajinikanth, to sing a track in a film in Hindi, for the forthcoming magnum opus Kochadaiiyaan – The Legend.

Twenty years since he first sang for a film, Rajinikanth returned to the music studio, this time with Academy Award winning music director A R Rahman, to sing in both Tamil and Hindi for a philosophical composition, ‘Mannan’. He had earlier sung the track Adikuthu Kuliru, an emotional track composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

Speaking about the track, Soundarya says: “When I asked my father to sing for the film he agreed immediately. He said one thing to me when I asked him why he hadn’t sung for a film before, he just said ‘no director has ever asked me to before!’

My father has sung earlier in Tamil for one of his films 20 years ago but since Kochadaiiyaan is a trilingual film, he has sung in Tamil and Hindi for one the tracks which is a first for him and a treat for all of his fans. The track is very philosophical with and given the feel and meaning of the track, it wasn’t too hard a task to convince my father to take to the mic!”

After garnering over 3.5 million views for its teaser trailer in a matter of only a few days, Kochadaiiyaan is set to blaze a trail globally in cutting-edge Photorealistic Performance Capture Technology, as it rivals and transcends the technological capabilities of Hollywood masterpieces Avatar, Tin Tin and Beowulf.

South Indian megastar Rajinikanth is cast as the archetypal superhero in the epic dramatisation of good versus evil. He performs a dual role with the reigning Queen of Indian Cinema Deepika being paired opposite the younger character. They are joined by current and veteran stars of North and South Indian Cinema such as Jackie Shroff and R. Sarathkumar for a global, Pan-Indian cinematic treat. The film is directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin with music by A R Rahman.

Gear up to handle their ‘Bachchagiri’

Zee TV unveils the Super 16 contestants of ‘Lifebuoy DID L’il Masters Season 3’ in an extravaganza of dance and comedy on Saturday, 22nd March

Mithun Da turns rapper for the first time ever
and Krushna Abhishek & Sudesh Lehri leave the audience in splits

They’ve got the cool swag …the dhamaal n masti of Bollywood … some really swell contemporary moves … they lock and pop, krump and b-boy like professional Hip Hoppers…and above all, they pack in a smashing attitude called ‘Bachchagiri’ … !

It is no surprise, then, that a show featuring some of the brightest, most talented, spirited and adorable kids in the country – ‘Lifebuoy Dance India Dance L’il Masters Season 3’ has opened up to a whopping 11099 TVTs (Source: TAM – Week 9), making it the highest-rated episode on reality shows from 2013 till date across GECs. The baaps of dance have proved their mettle as the baaps of ratings too! Judged by the seasoned Geeta Kapoor and Ahmed Khan, coached and mentored by skippers Sanam Johar, Raghav Crockroaz Juyal, DID 4 contestant Swarali Karulkar and Rahul-Paul, the L’il Masters will dance their way to the hearts of their audience. If the opening of the show is anything to go by, Season 3 of L’il Masters will emerge to be even bigger than its earlier seasons on Zee TV that were nothing short of phenomenal successes on television.

Having concluded a whirlwind of auditions across Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Vadodara, Indore, Raipur, Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Patna, Jammu and Lucknow, Season 3 has reached an exciting milestone where the Super 16 contestants who embody the spirit of ‘Bachchagiri’ will be chosen by the Masters after a lot of deliberation. Come 9 PM on Saturday, March 22nd, India will have its Super 16 unveiled in an exciting episode that will not just be an extravaganza of dance but one packed with delightful interludes of comedy, courtesy the hilarious duo of Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri. As an ode to Grandmaster Mithun Da, the two funnymen are said to have sung Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy and I am a Disco dancer in ghazal and aalaap style, leaving the audience in splits. The evening will see Mithun Da as never-seen-before, what with him turning into a very “YO!”, cool rappper, belting out a special rap song as he introduces the Super 16 kids, skippers and the judges.

Speaking of the Grand Unveil of the Super 16 episode, Namit Sharma, Head Programming, Zee TV said, “Dancing isn’t just about the steps. It is also about the attitude. Looking at the sheer aplomb and the unabashed flair of the kid contestants at DID L’il Masters season after season, we have coined the term ‘Bachchagiri’ to define their attitude this season. These kids are immensely talented and they know it. They’re carefree, uninhibited and accept any challenge that comes their way. At such a tender age, they dance with so much passion and self-assurance that it can rattle any adult watching. We conducted the auditions across 15 cities in India and the response has been overwhelming. Over one lakh children participated and we have now arrived at our Super 16 kids who exactly fit the bill of ’Bachchagiri’’. The ‘Super 16’ unveil episode this year will not have a mere explosion of dance. That is a given with DID. What we have this year is a side of Dada audiences have never seen before and the kings of comedy – Sudesh Lehri and Krushna will regale the audience with a double dose of comic entertainment. We look forward to an exciting gala premiere and a smashing season!”

‘Lifebuoy Dance India Dance L’il Masters Season 3’ will follow a format similar to the original season where these 16 little powerhouses of talent are divided into 4 teams led by the skippers. Episode after episode, the skippers will groom and mentor their respective teams to face the trials of dance ahead of them. The contestants will be judged on their grasp in learning new dance forms, their versatility in lending themselves to diverse styles and the grace and charisma that sets a ‘dancer with a Bachchagiri attitude’ apart from the dancers.

So, here’s a look at who’s made it to Super 16 …

‘Sanam ke Superheroes’

Sonalika International plans major expansion in Africa

TRACTOR MAKER KEEN ON ADDING TWO NEW ASSEMBLY PLANTS TO THE EXISTING FACILITIES AND TAP POTENTIAL IN THE DEVELOPING CONTINENT

Mumbai : In the view of Indian of an annual export of 6,000 tractor units to Africa, tractor manufacturer Sonalika International is planning to add two more assembly plants to build on the three existing facilities they have in Africa in order to tap the potential of the huge unutilised arable land bank of the 54 nation continent.

“We are planning to add another two assembly plants by this year. All Indian, Chinese and European tractor brands are present in Africa but Indian products are the most adaptable for the Terrain. It is important to engage companies and governments alike in agriculture therefore we are looking at options in South Africa and in the East African countries”

Rajiv Wahi, senior president, international business, International Tractors Ltd, a Sonalika Group Company, said.

With the three existing assembly plants in Cameroon, Nigeria and Algeria, the investment needed to set up any assembly plant depending on the capacity, volume and localisation would be between $5 million and $20 million.

Being nine times the size of India, the African continent still has 60 percent of unutilised arable land. It still depends on very basic agricultural methods and a net importer of agricultural products.

The African continent needs 100,000 tractors with a deficit of 70,000 tractors. India has the pioneering position in the tractor industry in Africa due to cost and durability factors

In agriculture, Africa is today where India was 30 years back. Our knowhow and expertise are very relevant for Africa. In the early 1970s, India’s tractor market was around 30,000 – 40,000 annually and during that time India was a net importer.”

Sonalika Tractors, which started exporting to Africa 11 years ago, is now present in around 30 countries on the continent. The decision to set up new assembly plants in Africa is part of the company’s strategy to ace in the available market segment. The African terrain is very similar to Indian climatic conditions and hence makes an apt adapting environment for Indian Products.

Africa has similar fragmented land holdings as in India. Ninety percent of tractors are based in five countries South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt in a continent of 54 nations. These countries have more than 20,000 tractors. The rest of the countries have only a couple of hundreds.

Chingles pulls up yet another prank, this time the ‘Tutti Frutti’ way

Launches TVC for their new Tutti-frutti flavour of Chingles, the refreshing mini gums

New Delhi, 19 March 2014: India’s leading confectionary brand ‘Chingles’, from the house of Dharampal Satyapal Group today announced the launch of a campaign for the new ‘Tutti-frutti’ flavour from Chingles, the refreshing mini gums. The 30 sec long TVC is in line with the existing campaign of the brand and introduces the new flavour in a typical Chingles way – pulling a prank and asking “Aaj Lee Kya?”

DS Group marked its foray into the Rs. 1600 crore gum category in 2011 with mini gums called ‘CHINGLES’. The new flavor ‘Tutti Frutti’ is also available in Rs. 1 sachet, Rs. 5 zipper and Rs. 10 Fliptop packs, just like the other existing Nimbu, Saunf and Mint flavours of Pass-Pass Chingles.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajeev Jain, Senior General Manager, Marketing, Dharampal Satyapal Ltd, said, “At DS Group, we are committed to creating new and refreshing products & variants to provide innovative tastes to our customers. Our new flavor Chingles ‘Tutti Frutti’ has been developed keeping the same in mind.”

He further added, “‘Chingles’, has always been positioned as a lively brand that aims to bring friends and family together by playing fun filled pranks on each other to enliven their lives. The new TVC for ‘Chingles Tutti Frutti’ is packed with the same joy that will bring smile on the viewer’s face.”

Positioned as an antidote to seriousness, the new campaign introduces a new character LiLee who turns the tables on the Lee brothers- UngLee, KhujLee and GoogLee, by playing a prank on them. Created by Dentsu Marcom, the commercial is set to foot-tapping music and pays a tribute to the golden age of retro in the 70’s which had heroines dressed up in dazzling costumes and living in lavish houses.

The film builds up the mystery of someone coming. LiLee the new character is shown singing ‘Dekho Woh Aagaya!’ and waiting for someone to arrive. This invites the curiosity and interest of the Lee brothers. They line up outside her door and try to peep in through the key hole one by one, wondering who is coming. LiLee punctures their curiosity by suddenly opening the door and telling the brothers that it is the new Chingles flavour, Tutti Frutti that has arrived, thus taking the trip of the Lee brothers.

Titus Upputuru, National Creative Director, Dentsu Marcom, and the director of the film said, “The idea was to announce a new flavour. However, since the new variant is a continuation of the legacy of the existing Chingles mini gums, we decided to do it the Chingles way– pull a prank. It was fun shooting the film.”
