UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to join high-level UNAIDS Country Mission on HIV on International Women’s Day

Press conference to be organised around visit to Mumbai’s KB Bhabha Municipal Hospital, Bandra, Mumbai, India on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 5 pm.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8), Indian icon and acclaimed actress, and International Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will join a high-level delegation to carry out an advocacy mission on the issue of women and HIV in Mumbai.

The programme will involve a site visit to K.B. Bhabha Municipal Hospital in Bandra, an integrated centre providing services to prevent new HIV infections among children and to help support women affected by gender-based violence. Mrs Rai Bachchan and the delegation will interact with service-providers and beneficiaries — both women and children.

Key objectives of the mission are:

To highlight the progress India is achieving on the Global Plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children and keeping their mothers alive.
To raise awareness on gender-based violence and address the status of women and girls, especially in light of reoccurring cases of sexual violence.

Since her appointment on September 24, 2012, Mrs Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has undertaken various missions and public speaking roles on behalf on UNAIDS, helping to raise awareness on issues related to the elimination of new HIV infections among children and advocate for increased access to antiretroviral treatment. Her commitment to the cause and strong voice has reached and impacted national, regional and global audiences.
Currently in India there are an estimated 2.1 million people are living with HIV, which includes approximately 2 million adults and 145,000 children.
While the HIV epidemic has stabilized in states where HIV was earlier concentrated in the past few years (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Nagaland and Tamil Nadu), it is rising in certain low prevalence states and districts.
India’s extensive scale-up and coverage of HIV prevention services for key populations at high risk of infection is being globally recognised. Over the last two months, India has witnessed a series of positive developments with regard to the response to AIDS, including:

– Launch of an ambitious National Strategic Plan – or NACP IV – for an estimated USD 2.3 billion, with 63% of financing covered by domestic funds.

– Issuing instructions for immediate adoption of lifelong access to triple antiretroviral treatment for all pregnant women living with HIV (Option B+) with a target of 100% coverage

– Announcing the intent to adopt antiretroviral treatment initiation at a CD4 count of 500 as well as provision of 3rd line treatment

– Introducing the long-standing HIV Bill into Parliament;

– A limited, but nevertheless favourable, response to provide funding for generic drugs for the elimination of new HIV infections among children in Africa.

The Me Mukti Marshal is your new friend-on-the-train who promises to be a strong companion until you alight. The team of 13 well trained women will travel on the Western Railway trains between 9.30 pm and 12.30 am between Andheri and Borivali and Mumbai Central and Churchgate to ensure you’re never alone. The women, trained in self defense, will be armed with a baton and pepper spray to protect you from trouble.

A unique initiative by the Mukti Foundation, the Me Mukti Marshals understand your need for a companion on the local trains. The Mumbai local railway, once the city’s safe travel lifeline, has witnessed a steady rise in crimes against women. Statistics by the Mumbai Government Railway Police for 2013 state that there’s been a 80 per cent increase in cases of sexual harassment of women in the trains. Can we forget how a man got in to the ladies compartment of a western line local train and attempted to rape a nurse who was travelling alone in the unguarded coach last July? Or the case of a foreign tourist who was attacked on a train by a robber? Last year, data shows that there were 76 cases of crimes against women, including rape, molestation and kidnapping, registered between January 1 and November 30.

The Me Mukti Marshals will only assist the Railway Police in their fight against crimes. With a baton and pepper spray, she will only deter an attacker before helping the victim take the miscreant to the police authorities.

Minister of Shipping G K Vasan lays foundation stone of JNPT’s 330 meter standalone Container Terminal Project

· The minister also awards mega project of development of Fourth Container Terminal to M/S PSA Bharat Investments Pte. Ltd to be developed at an estimated project cost of Rs.7915 crores

· Launches Software Development and ERP project awarded to M/s CMC Ltd

Mumbai, March 5, 2014: Union Minister of Shipping Shri G.K.Vasan today laid the foundation stone of 330 meter stand-alone Container Terminal of Project of India’s largest container handling port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) awarded to Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd.

The Minister also awarded the mega project of development of Fourth Container Terminal at JN Port on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis to M/S PSA Bharat Investments Pte. Ltd and launched the software project for software development and ERP awarded to M/s CMC Ltd.

JNPT had signed the agreement with Dubai-based DP World’s Indian subsidiary Nhava Sheva(India) Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd.(NSIGI) for development of a standalone container handling facility at the port in Navi Mumbai at an estimated cost of Rs. 600 crores.

The concession agreement entails the development of Standalone Container Handling Facility with a quay length of 330 metres at JN Port, Sheva, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Under the agreement, the terminal will be developed by NSIGT at an estimated cost of Rs. 600 crores, with an estimated capacity addition of 0.8 Million TEUs per annum.

“In India, container volumes are expected to witness an exponential growth. Container terminals at major ports help in furthering international trade. Building new container terminals will help meet the growing global demand,” said Mr Vasan.

The project would be executed on DBFOT (Design, Built, Finance Operate and Transfer) basis, and is slated to be completed by December 2015.

As per the PPP policy of Government of India, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust floated a global tender and DP World was the successful bidder for the project, with their offer of 28.9% revenue share to the port. DP World has formed a special purpose vehicle namely Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. to implement this project.

“We are very delighted that the foundation stone has been laid for 330 meter stand-alone Container Terminal Project along with the award of mega project of development of Fourth Container Terminal at JN Port to PSA Bharat Investments Pte. Ltd and launch of software development and ERP project,” said Mr N N Kumar, Chairman, JNPT.

Minister of State for Shipping,IT & Communications Shri Milind Deora graced the occasion.

The project for development of 4th Container Terminal at JN Port with a quay length of 2000 metres and a capacity of 4.8 million TEUs per annum at an estimated project cost of Rs.7915 crores was bid out by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust through a global tender and PSA was successful bidder for the project with the offer of 35.79% revenue shared to the port. It was envisaged from various studies that the Port would be required to handle container traffic to the tune of 10 million TEUs by year 2018-19.

The Board of Trustees of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, in its meeting held on February 26, 2014 accepted the offer of PSA and the Letter of Award (LOA) was issued to them on the same day. A License Agreement will be signed within one month from the date of issue of the LOA. With this capacity addition JNPT will be able to handle 10 million TEUs and place itself in ten biggest global container ports.

Hon’ble Minister of Shipping, Shri G K Vasan and Minister of State for Communications,IT & Shipping, Shri Milind Deora congratulated Chairman ,JNPT, its Officers and employees for achieving this target and bringing the difficult task to a reality.

The Project of “Software Development, and ERP was awarded to M/s CMC Limited at a project cost of over Rs 29 crores. It aims at automating the Library and Workflow Management including Document Management, with a Centralised User Management & Single Sign On. Further, the project will also upgrade the existing IT infrastructure along with building necessary Data Network redundancy for a reliable, robust and agile IT Infrastructure to cater to the growth of the Enterprise.

Mikey McCleary – Kiwi Musician for Indian Film Music

Mikey McCleary is a songwriter, composer, performer and producer working in Bollywood for a quite a long time. Born in Chennai, and having lived and worked in London, he is originally from New Zealand. Mikey’s recent release track ‘Ahista Ahista’ sung by Farhan Akhtar, from the film ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ is making rage. He has also done the background score for the film.

Priorly, Mikey has also created background score for some of critically acclaimed films like Dibakar Banerjee’s 2012 political thriller ‘Shanghai’ as well as contributing music for several other films including ‘Shaitan’, ‘Kahaani’ and ‘LSD’. He also composed the background score and 4 songs for Bejoy Nambiar’s second film ‘David’ as well as composing the songs and background music score for Rohan Sippy’s 2013 film ‘Nautanki Saala’. He is now working on several new feature films like ‘Margarita with a straw’, ‘Pizza’, ‘Fattack’, ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Hogayi’, ‘Sonali Cable’ along with frequent TV ad work.

Mikey studied Composition and Orchestration at the Wellington Conservatorium of Music and at Victoria University, Wellington. He then worked as a music producer in London at Trident Studios London among other places.

Mikey began his career in the Indian industry with a collaboration with singer Lucky Ali. He was responsible for the music behind the album Sunoh and all subsequent Lucky Ali albums and has also worked regularly with AR Rahman.

Mikey is the talent behind some of the most successful and recognisable tracks for India’s biggest advertising campaigns including Vodafone, Coca Cola, Levi’s, Canon, Sony, Titan, Garnier, Lakme, Reliance, Pond’s and countless more.

Queen has a “rock-ing” climax ! Literally!

While the climax of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures & Phantom Films’ Queen directed by Vikas Bahl have left most with a feeling of euphoria ,very few know that the scene in question was shot at an actual rock show that the makers organized.

When the crew was shooting for the film in Amsterdam,the world’s party capital ,they heard of the city’s most popular indoor show venue where several concerts took place. That was when director Vikas Bahl decided that the venue made for a fitting location and was adamant on recreating an actual live concert, despite being aware of the challenges shooting at a live rock show would pose.

The team organized a rock show with performances by a band called “Green Lizard” and invited music lovers across Amsterdam to be part of the concert.

The shoot took off smoothly , courtesy the cast and crew’s enthusiasm as well as lead Kangana Ranaut’s energy and participation , resulting into a scene that not only looks and feels real but filled with energy and adrenaline, making for the perfect climax.

Says director Vikas Bahl, “While shooting in Amsterdam we decided to go all out and organize this rock show with Green Lizard and went out into the streets to invite locals across the city….the turnout was unprecedented .We decided to shoot the real live concert as there was a certain energy and vibe that would have been impossible to recreate on a normal set.It was a double whammy as the shoot turned out fantastic and we all ended up having a great time”

Sajid Nadiadwala elated as Highway becomes a Super Hit

Sajid Nadiadwala is a very happy man with Imtiaz Ali’s Highway turning out to be a super hit and profitable for all stakeholders. The Alia Bhatt-Randeep Hooda starrer, presented by Sajid was made at a cost of Rs 18.25 crore (including P&A). The movie has already clocked more than Rs 27 crore at the Indian box office and is still running successfully across theatres. What is even more incredible is that the film has garnered this collection from just 800 screens where it was released. That apart, the film had made Rs 15.5 crore revenue even before release and the international theatrical collection is more than Rs 8 crore till date and still counting, making the total revenue pie more than 50 cr.

Sajid says: “It was both an honor and a challenge when Imtiaz entrusted me with the big responsibility of Highway’s release. We worked with our distribution partners at UTV to give the film an appropriate release across 800 screens, with carefully selected cities and cinemas across the country.”

The film, with Anil Mehta’s unmatched cinematography and A.R. Rahman’s unforgettable music, has created a very strong word of mouth wave in the audience all over.

“Highway was always a profitable film, made and marketed at a tight cost but what was really heartwarming was the way the audiences warmed up to the movie,” adds Sajid. “We not just made a super hit film but a much loved one which will be seen and remembered with much fondness for years to come.”

Says Imtiaz Ali, “Happy that the film has reached the audience. We are moved by the response and very thankful. This experience has taught us many new things.”

New Delhi, March 05, 2014: Krishan Sachdev, Managing Director, Carrier Midea India Private Limited has been elected as the President of the Refrigeration and Airconditioning Manufacturers’ Association (RAMA) on February 26, 2014. This appointment is for a two-year period.

RAMA is the apex forum of the industry leaders and representatives of major manufacturers including MNCs in the Refrigeration and Airconditioning industry in India.

RAMA is affiliated to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Given the poor penetration levels, the market potential for airconditioning and refrigeration products in India is huge; and RAMA plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the industry not only grows at a high rate, but also delivers globally competitive products and services.
