Bollywood stars to shine at Umair Zafar’s Summer Collection 2014 launch at Lucknow

At least 4-5 Bollywood actors including Rituparna Sengupta and Purab Kohli will add to the glam component and help designer Umair Zafar promote the art of Lucknowi Chikankari to a discerning and elite audience at the M B Club at Lucknow on 1st March 2014.

Speaking to content agency Newz66.com, Umair Zafar says, “Almost everyone even remotely connected with garments, apparel and fashion has heard of chikankari. But how many people know that there are over 40 types of hand stitches involved in chikankari embroidery work. How many people know that one embroider working almost 18 hours a day takes over a week and more to complete a single garment. We want to showcase and present the efforts involved in preparing such a collection.”

These outfits – which have provided employment to almost 250 embroiders in Mumbai and Lucknow, will be on display at a glitzy fashion event in Lucknow – the home of chikankari at the launch of Umair Zafar’s Summer Collection 2014. Chikankari is delicate and artfully done hand embroidery on a variety of textile fabrics like muslin, silk, chiffon, organza, net etc. White thread is embroidered on cool, pastel shades of light muslin and cotton garments. These days chikan embroidery is also done with coloured and silk threads in different colours to sync with recent fashion trends and keep chikankari trendy with changing fashion and fabric.

Lucknow is the heart of the Chikankari industry today and the variety is known as Lucknawi chikan. Highway Diaries: The Shooting Caravan

Films capture journeys but in Imtiaz Ali’s much-awaited Highway, the journey has made the film. Presented by Sajid Nadiadwala and starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, the film traverses six states of north India and captures the landscape of the different regions as it goes along.

Highway Diaries are short video snippets that capture the journey of the film and all the exciting experiences that the cast and crew had during its making.

ISACA India Chapters to Honor Organizations

for Excellence in IT Governance and Information Security

Award entries accepted through 20 March

New Delhi, February 18, 2014 – The India chapters of global IT association ISACA are seeking nominations for the IT Governance Award and the Information Security Award to distinguish organizations that have successfully implemented an appropriate IT governance or IT security framework. Entries are due by 20 March 2014, and the awards will be presented at an event on Friday, 4 April, in Mumbai.

The awards signify independence from the two fundamental problems plaguing the corporate world today: the problem of poor information systems governance and the problem of inadequate information systems security.

The eligibility and criteria for application to the awards are:

1. IT Governance Award

a. Organization must have implemented (or be in the process of implementing, with 75% completion of program) an appropriate framework for IT governance (or GRC for IT) across the enterprise.

b. Organizations must be able to demonstrate to the panel the success criteria on implementation of IT governance (GRC).

2. Information Security Award

a. Organization must have implemented (or be in the process of implementing, with 75% completion of program) an appropriate framework for IT security.

b. Organization must be able to demonstrate to the panel the success criteria on implementation of IT security framework.

Imtiaz Ali gears up for his upcoming release on 21st February 2014, Highway. This project marks the debut of another professional pairing i.e. Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Nadiadwala.

This is the first time the duo has come together to work on a project. Sajid Nadiadwala, who has worked with the biggest stars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar will be seen investing in a lot of young talent this year.

Says Imtiaz, “I had a certain confidence (in Sajid’s work). The kind of films he’s done in the past, like Ghulami (1985) — one of my favourite films — are the kind of movies I’m making. That is what I think has interested him in Highway. I’m a director and he’s (Sajid) a producer; the influence we had on each other is that now I’ve turned producer and he’s turned director. I’m taking guidance from him.”

Sajid Nadiadwala is not just excited about his first project with Imtiaz but he also hopes that the pairing continues for a really long time.

Says Sajid, “The best thing about Imtiaz is that I get ideas from him free of cost… I’ve discussed scenes with him from a film he’s not even associated with. I’ve been a producer for 25 years, but as director, I’m a newcomer. The most important thing for me was to be part of the journey. I never comment on how the film is, but I’d say I’m happy with the outcome.”

2014 Construction Will Increase Waterborne Production Capacity

Mumbai, February , 2014 – Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, will begin the next leg of construction to significantly expand its waterborne production capacity at the company’s operations in Garulhous, Brazil. The 2014 construction represents the third year of a $32 million investment program. The additional facility will more than double capacity to over 4.5 million litres (1.2 million gallons) which will meet the demands of automotive equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in South America where increases in the car parc are forecast to continue. The additional production is expected to come on line in 2015.

The Guarulhos plant is Axalta’s largest manufacturing facility in Latin America. The plant supplies customers in Brazil, where Axalta is already the largest single automotive coatings supplier to OEMs, as well as Argentina, Venezuela and Colombia. The new facility will produce waterborne coatings and complement the on-going manufacture of quality products for customers in Refinish and Industrial segments that will continue to be produced at the Garulhous location.
