Bollywood newbie Evelyn Sharma the new face of Rocky S.

The stunningly beautiful half-German half-Indian international model Evelyn Sharma first became the cynosure of all eyes, when she accompanied her designer friend Rocky S to the Ritesh Deshmukh-Genelia Sangeet ceremony before their wedding.

A far contrast from everyone dressed in traditional Indian outfits, Evelyn walked in wearing bright red jeans! Normally, anyone who’d do that at a Sangeet would risk a lot of frowns. But Evelyn’s poise and charm seemed to have unarmed everyone.

Following praise, she turned showstopper for Rocky, setting the ramp on fire at the Lakme Fashion Week! Some time later, she caught glances from the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy, Madhur Bhandarkar and host Sohail Khan at the Provogue Royalty Fashion Nights launch.

And now, the latest is that Rocky S has signed the girl up as the face of his campaign Vilasa. Here, Evelyn sports a lot of Indian attires.

Though most foreigners are known to go wrong with ethnic outfits, surprisingly, the newbie is said to have taken to them, like fish to water! Ah, we can hardly wait to see this gal in her upcoming movies now!

Evelyn’s impressive Bollywood line-up includes Manish Tiwary’s Issaq opposite Prateik Babbar, veteran filmmaker Pramod Chakravorty’s grandson Prateek Chakravorty’s debut film From Sydney With Love, and a pivotal role in Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani; the Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer under Karan Johar’s banner Dharma Productions.

New book on Gandhi terms the Mahatma a sex maniac!

To Indians, Mahatma Gandhi is the Father of the Nation. But to some abroad, he has become a subject of strange critiquing. One such person is Jad Adams; a historian working as an author and an independent television producer in London.

Jad has written a biography titled Gandhi: Naked Ambition, wherein he claims Gandhi not only had a practice of sleeping next to naked girls, but that he spoke constantly of sex and gave detailed, often provocative, instructions to his followers as to how they might best observe chastity.

The book claims that Gandhi had an unusual sex life, stating that his friend and the first Prime Minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, described Gandhi’s advice to newly-weds to stay celibate for the sake of their souls, as “abnormal and unnatural”.

Jad goes on to add that while researching Gandhi, he came across a more bizarre sexual history, which he says was distorted or suppressed after his death during the process of elevating him into the ‘Father of the Nation’.

The book quotes the pre-independence prime minister of the Indian state of Travancore having called Gandhi, “a most dangerous, semi-repressed sex maniac”. It even states that as Gandhi’s father lay dying, he left his bedside to have sex with his wife Kasturba. Puff!

Reacting to the book, Indian public relations expert Dale Bhagwagar sarcastically tweeted, “If Jad Adams lived in the United Arab Emirates instead of the United Kingdom; he might have been stoned to death by now for writing a biography like this. Lol. It’s only India, with its tolerance levels, which may take such weird documentation with a pinch of salt.” (sic)

“Jad should be thankful to the Mahatma for inculcating this great tolerance in his countrymen. The same may also save him from very harsh condemnation and backlash, even after penning such a controversial book,” he added.

Has Satyamev Jayate failed from the advertising perspective?

Satyamev Jayete might be the talk of the town and the country, but certain trade reports insist that the show has failed at the advertising level!

One such recent report on Afaqs!, the highly respected trade site for news on the marketing and advertising industries in India, states that much against anticipation, Satyamev Jayate on Star Plus has failed to make it to the Top 10 shows list in the Hindi speaking market (HSM) for the week ended May 12, 2012. Instead, according to TAM’s latest data, the much-touted property – garbed in Aamir Khan glory – has opened with a TVR of 3.02 on Star Plus to occupy the 12th spot in the most-watched show hierarchy.

It adds that from a hardcore buyer and advertiser’s point of view, the show has failed in efficient delivery. “While the expectations were very high at the initial stage, the levels are much lowered now. And, if such a rating trend continues, then the expectations will significantly diminish. Evidently, this also means that advertisers will not be ready to pay such high premium on the property,” the report quotes a top media buyer.

However, it admits that that the show has managed to successfully create a brand of its own and therefore, from Khan’s perspective, the show is a clear ‘hot’ success. It can be noted here, that earlier, Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar had pointed out that “even if the show doesn’t grow in TRP ratings, it will eventually do a world of good to Brand Aamir Khan.”

The publicist had pointed out that “the actor has connected with urban as well as rural audiences and the show has already been hailed as revolutionary.”

“Of course, the most sensible move would be to drastically cut down on production budgets, so that it becomes more viable for its advertisers,” Dale had said, further stating that Aamir Khan has nevertheless earned a place in history for attempting a bold concept like this in a country mired with corruption, political infighting, scams and frauds.

Thursday, 17 May, 2012: With three races done and with the European season gathering pace, the Mahindra team is relishing the challenge of round four at France’s classic racing venue – Le Mans.

It is the first visit to the challenging Bugatti circuit for the Moto3™ class, and the new-generation 250cc four-stroke racers have been setting new standards and winning new fans. Close exciting racing is guaranteed, as 33 young riders vie to make their mark.

The majority ride over-the-counter production racers from established racing factories.

The Mahindra team is taking a more difficult but more rewarding path. The MGP-30 machines are all-independent, with a unique chassis and a shared-development specialist power unit.

Early-days results have been promising. With the white-and-red machines still at the beginning of development, riders Danny Webb (21, England) and Marcel Schrötter (19, Germany) are already knocking on the door of the top-15 points-scoring positions.

Webb achieved a best-so-far at the last round in Portugal, qualifying 18th. But his chances were scuppered by a technical issue in the race leading to a retirement. Back at base in Italy, Mahindra Racing’s team of experienced engineers have been working hard with a focus on improved reliability before a number of planned performance enhancements are implemented on the new bike.

At Le Mans riders Danny and Marcel will be making maximum use of the MGP-30’s fine handling on the 2.60- mile (4.186-km) circuit’s twisty layout and long corners, and using every trick in the book to put the MGP-30 in the points.

But for a little problem in Portugal I felt we could have had the first points for the MGP-30. Le Mans will be another chance. I have a new engine; we need to get the chassis dialled in and everything working right, and then we’ll see what we can do.

It’s been tough so far, but step by step I get more confident. I had some problems off the start in Portugal and lost too many places, but when I got past them again I had a good steady pace, but too far away to do better than 19th. I need a better start at Le Mans.

Marcel Schrötter finished 15th overall in the 125cc Rider’s Championship and the team finished a strong third overall in the Constructor’s Championship. Danny Webb made history when he secured pole position in Valencia in the last race of the 125cc era. The team takes this learning into its participation in the all new Moto3™ class which replaced the 125cc class from the 2012 season onwards.

In the CIV in Italy, the team has teamed up Indian rider Sarath Kumar with ex Italian Champion Riccardo Moretti in the 125 GP Class. The team became the first from India to win an international motorsport event when Riccardo took the chequered flag at the season-opening race of the CIV in Mugello, Italy on 25 March, 2012. Another brilliant victory on the Imola circuit on 8 April, 2012, established Moretti and his team firmly at the top of the standings.
