Amit Purohit
Amit Purohit showed his acting skills ‘Pankh’. Now his new film, the musical Aalaap is about to release this month. Amit has portrayed a completely different role in the movie. Director Manish Manikpuri confesses that he is surprised to see the transformation in Amit, which was beyond his imagination. In an open chat, promising actor Amit Purohit reveals all about Aalaap to Devyani P Korgaonkar.

How did Aalaap fall your way?
Amit Purohit: The producers Abhishek Mishra and Nishant Tripathi had approached me for the movie. When I heard the concept, I readily agreed. I would say, the USP of the movie is its storyline. It is a musical film, then for obvious reasons, the music of the movie will be good, adding value to the movie and standing for its title.
I really appreciate the producers and director Manish Manikpuri that they were very clear about their concept, which is rare with newcomers in the industry. They knew what to make and how to make.
How was the experience?
Amit Purohit: It was a great experience. We knew that we were shooting near the Naxal-zone. So, you can get the feel of the character shooting there. But the team was well aware of the activities in that area.
Tell us about your character.
Amit Purohit: I am male lead in the movie. I am playing a character named Rahul. He is a brilliant student, topper of the college every year. But he belongs to a very poor family. His father played by Raghuveer Yadav is a rickshaw puller. His maternal uncle played by Omkardas Manikpuri also stays with them. Rahul is emotional, he writes poems. The situation created due to Naxalism always kept disturbing him, the mass murders haunted him, he tried to find a justification. He remained confused and later finds a mentor played by Vijay Raj. The mentor inspires Rahul to use music as a weapon to bring changes, bring peace. Then I met three aimless guys, played by Abed, Pitobash and Harsh. We form the band and the journey starts.

How was the experience with the director and co-stars.
Amit Purohit: Manish was very clear about what he wants from his film. He was also technically sound. And the co-stars are my close friends now.
Tell us about your upcoming projects!
Amit Purohit: My next film is Shobhna’s Seven Nights, directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay, produced by Abhishek Mishra. And there are few more in the pipe line. I can’t say more on those at the moment.
What do you think about the commercial success of the movie.
Amit Purohit: I believe that the movie will be a success. This is a sensible cinema as well as entertaining too. And there are performances are something to watch for.
What do you have to say about the music? Which one is your favourite song?
Amit Purohit : The music of the movie. And Agnee lived upto the expectations. My favourite is Dil Ye Awaz De, Ek Nayi Roshni.

B-Town demand Murali Sharma in Cop role

Murli Sharma is one of the actors who seem to be quite in demand especially when it’s the role of cop. More after the success of Singham where he was a corrupt cop DSP Patkar well he would be seen as a cop role in his three upcoming movies.

Murli Sharma will be seen in Zindagi 50:50 where he plays a lecherous inspector Ramakant Rangoji Pawar where he gets a chance to get intimate in a scene with veena malik in a Jeep on the Mumbai road. Then in “My Friend Ganesha – 2” where he will be playing an Inspector Banyora and third film is “Jeena Hai Toh Thok Dal” as Inspector Hanumant Singh.

“They are all very different from each other each had a different dialect and slang and backdrop. I had fun, I am not bothered about being type cast. Cops role became my identity and I love it”, says Murli.

Filmmakers react to Sena threat on song…
Producer Aparna Hoshing from Rash Productions was threatened by Shiv Sena for her song “Mooh Mein Le” in the film “Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal” starring Ravi Kishan, Hazel Crowney, actor/director Manish Vatsalya and Pooja Welling.
The movie Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal” has been in the public eye for its controversial subject after being set in Purnia District of Bihar.
It was last week that the producer Hoshing released the song “Mooh Mein Le” on YouTube, and undoubtedly the song is a hit among the youth but the president of the entertainment wing of the Shiv Sena – The Maharashtra Cine and Television Sena (MCTS) – Akshay Bardapurkar doesn’t seem to be taking it in the right spirit and has raised an objection for the usage of the term “Mooh mein le” and various other words in the song. The consequences being Akshay Bardapurkar, threatened the producer of the film to remove the song from the movie else they would react Shiv Sena style.

“We have received a threatening letter to yank off the song from the film and other places where it has been put up. We are not thinking about anything like that now,” says Hoshing who prefers to seek media intervention rather than go to the cops for protection.

While Hoshing has taken private security, Manish Vatsalya says that he would rather take his song off, if other songs and dialogues with similar meanings are taken off from other films. “I do not want to name which film songs have similar lines. Ask them to do and we will take it off too,” he argues.

Priti Amin: Daring To Be Different

Priti Amin, could very well be a synonym for restlessness & inspired
creativity. While in the competitive television world where popularity
rules, few actors get out of their comfort zone or chuck their
iron-clad images to explore new territory, like Priti Amin. The talented actor, who has carved a niche for herself as “Surily” from the popular series, Lapatagunj, has decided to hang up her boots from the show.
“I loved the opportunity & hopefully did justice to the bit. Comedy is
difficult & two and a half years is a long time. Surily, was coming
out of my nose & ears, that’s why I decided to take a break. I had to rediscover myself”.

While the television world gives you exposure & popularity, there is
always the danger of stagnation. Actors in long-running serials
invariably get stuck with their images. The tele-duniya, has also limited the range of many excellent performers, by casting them in set patterns.
“There are so many examples, she articulates, of good actors playing
identical roles all the time. I believe I can do better than that & am
looking forward to good parts in daily soaps. I do not mind a negative
role as long as the character is interesting”.
In her short stint Priti has also been a part of the well received,
Comedy Circus & portrayed the pivotal character in, the daily “Jhoome
Jiya Re”. She also was a part of Zee’s talent hunt show .Apart from television, Priti has already donned the greasepaint as a leading actress in Telugu films.
Priti, is a trained dancer & loves to hit the floor. “I am in my
2ndyear of contemporary dance & have imbibed some truly fantastic
steps. I have also trained in Indian dances & love the feel of
reacting to rhythm & melody through dance”,she elaborates. “Dance gives me a great high. At the moment the dancer in me is throbbing. I want to be seen as a versatile artist who can dance & act. Both are my compelling passions”.
With the deluge of Dance Reality shows hitting the tube today Priti
surely is impressed. “These shows have good dancers. I would love to
be a part of them”she gushes.
Priti, who had tasted esteem in Hyderabad, as an actor with a Telugu
show, Chakravakam, that aired for 3 years is a linguist of sorts. She
speaks Hindi, English,Telugu & Gujarati, her mother tongue. “I love
languages & am always keen to pick up new words from other languages”

For someone who has gone on to clear two years of CA before succumbing
to her passion, Priti knows where she is coming from.
Talking about her inspirations she talks fondly of her mother. “My
mother has been a great source of inspiration for me. She has been
artistically inclined & has been largely responsible for my creative leanings”.
It would be great to be remembered like my idols Juhi Chawla &
Aishwarya Rai. Both have oodles of talent & continue to enthrall. High
on SRK for his energy levels, Priti does not hide her admiration for the star “I often
wonder about the source of his energy. Where does it come from! She
For all her exuberance, Priti surprises with her bent toward
spirituality. “I have been a Vipasaana student. For the uninitiated,
Vipassana is a rigorous 10 day meditation course much sought in the
spiritual fraternity. “It helps me de-stress & reinvent myself. Meditation is a part of my daily routine, it’s a form of soul nourishment & as important as food for
the body. I cannot do without it. On a lighter note she quips, “It also helps me steel myself as I wait for my next good role”… We will wait too.

In the words of Rajan Madhu, Managing Director, F Lounge.Diner.Bar, “We wanted to create an ultra-upscale lounge for the elite and trendy. It’s the perfect place to pop a bottle and celebrate, or just pop a bottle because that’s how you do it. Either way, you’re sure to be in the right company for champagne here.”

Located on Level One at F Lounge.Diner.Bar, Mumbai, The Champagne Lounge re-defines luxury, with a touch of drama, excitement and mystery. Designed in accents of black and rich gold, the décor was a metaphor for the champagne’s journey from the Caves to the luminous effervescence that manifests itself in a flute. This inspired decadence was accentuated by beautiful white blossoms and a majestic installation crafted out of champagne flutes especially for the event.

Guests, including Amy Jackson, Poorna Jagannathan dressed in a Gaurav Gupta creation, Dino Morea, Rohan Sippy, Shenaz Treasuryvala, Sophie Chowdhry, Nandita Mahtani, Shailendra Singh, Queenie Singh, Laila and Ricky Lamba, Delnaz Poonawala, Haseena Jethmalani, Surily Goel, Sarah Jane Dias, Narendra Ahmed Kumar, Shobha De, Sabina and Anil Chopra,Ramona Narang, Yash Birla, Samantha and Nicky Nair, Prerna Goel, Simone Singh, Zeba Khan, Rukhsana Eisa, Natasha Poonawala, Siddharth Gogel and Sheena Sippy, Michelle and Yohan Poonawala, Roohi Jaikishen, Bikram and Schauna Saluja among others were seen enjoying the evening.

Yes, Luxe is here. And yes, Mumbai surely reveled in it.
