Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

Two Designing Duos – Khushboo Agarwal – Prem Kumar and Pranav Mishra – Shyma Shetty Presented Innovative Garments at Usha Talent Box During Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

Kushboo Agarwal and Prem Kumar Revealed their Exciting Collection at Usha Talent Box

Mumbai, Sunday, August 5, 2012: Khushboo Agarwal and Prem Kumar presented a fiery show with their new collection aptly christened ‘Dark Romance’ under their label Khem.

Blending in French Baroque influences along with the concept of ‘The Tree of Life’ this range blended in both careful constructions with softer touches for a collection that’s simply mesmerising. Feminine, soft fabrics such as georgettes, crepes as well as silk cottons helped link Indian traditional fabrics with a cosmopolitan touch.

The pieces made for interesting forms, which sported bead, mokaish and badla work which was an infusion that aimed to give traditional art a modern edge. The range displayed an array of dresses, jackets and gowns in a subdued colour palette comprising shades of grey, green, blue and black. Romantic with an edge, rich colour infusions were in blood red, bottle green, royal blue, espresso and plum.

A piece that stood out from the collection was a ravishing blue-green dual toned shimmering number, which was accentuated by a bolero jacket.

Complementing this range perfectly the Lakmé makeup experts kept the models’ looks fresh with long eyelashes for a youthful, mysterious appeal and upswept hair styles.

A dance in the dark, a beauty to behold this range by Khushboo Agarwal and Prem Kumar is sure appeal to the fastidious buyer’s inner desires.

Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty Added their Stylish Touches to Garments at Usha Talent Box

Huemn, as a brand by Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty has always strived to top itself at each fashion week.

The designers went back in time and took a page out of their previous collection only to come back with an electrifying new range titled ‘When the Lines Move’. Known for their strong structured silhouettes, this collection forayed into the experimental by displaying constructed designs, which managed to still appear fluid and flowing.

Using fabrics such as leather, felt and crepe, the designs made their way onto the runway in a muted colour palette comprising nudes, browns along with pale pastel shades of green and blue. With the concept being ‘structure caught in between flow’ the pieces were further built on by using sheer fabrics, adding a feminine touch to structured tops; while strategically placed cut outs as well as shoulder slits added a subtle funky edge.

Keeping the embellishments at a minimum with only soft embroidery work, the range took a unique twist, which was simply decadent.

To add to the feel of this collection, Lakmé salon experts worked with streaked lips and cat eye makeup, along with a stylish upswept look for the hair.

Gorgeous and well defined, the stunning collection by Pravnav Mishra and Shyma Shetty will leave the global women wanting more.

Debarun Mukherjee and Vaishali Shadangule Created Fusion Collections at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

From Debarun Mukherjee it was an Omnipresent Collection that Dazzled on the Runway at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

Mumbai, Sunday, August 5, 2012: Inspired by the spiritual presence of the Almighty, Debarun Mukherjee took the audience on an overwhelming journey of serene style at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 with his collection called “Omnipresent”.

Opening the show with a graceful dance performance by renowned Manipuri dancer, Rinku Dutt; Debarun had well known play back singer Richa Sharma, walking the ramp in a printed layered ghagra with high collar top and double layered inner.

Inspired by the iznik tiles of Turkey, Debarun chose the colour blue as a constant for his creations as well as added beige and black for the base, to give depth to his creativity.

Selecting the beautiful weaves of Bhagalpur and adding tussore, matka, katan and monga silks; the designer used amazing surface texturing and embellishments to match the iznik tiles. With fusion silhouettes that were ideal for the festive and bridal season, Debarun had flared and layered dhoti skirts, mandarin collar tops, elegant pleated pants and luxurious saris.

Eye-catching entries were the trapeze top with layered blouse and flared long sharara, pleated long top with blouse matched to churidars and the asymmetric long top with flared bell sleeve. The short black tussore waist and embroidered black sari added a touch of fusion hints to the traditional entry; while the mid-length top having an extended collar with dhoti inspired skirt was a perfect combo.

Men’s wear was stylish with embroidered Sherwanis, printed coats, tussore waist coats and some semi-transparent shirt kurtas teamed with churidars, straight black trousers or drawstring pants.

Ending the show was Richa Chadda, star of the hit Bollywood film, “Gangs of Wasseypur” in a gorgeous asymmetric double layered ghagra with black velvet waistcoat and churi sleeved blouse.

The overall look of the collection by Debarun Mukherjee was serene and beautiful that will appeal to the fashion senses of the wearer for all occasions.

Vaishali Shadangule Celebrated Colour with her Collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

Calling her collection “Reverb”, Vaishali Shadangule celebrated colour in her distinct style at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. Using a variety of her favourite fabrics, Vaishali started the show with Chanderi, organza, silk and brocade in festive colours like blue, red, white and gold. Adding on embellishments in the same colour story of red, blue and gold flowers; Vaishali emphasized on the unique drapes and cuts for the traditional attire.

The designer proved that innovative and asymmetric construction is her forté by sending out the most delicately structured garments in their sheer beauty. Chanderi’s transparency was balanced by the shimmer of silk organza and brocade and the deep tones of the Maharahstrian Khand; while hand embroidery added that subtle glitter to the outfits. Fabric texturing was achieved with the crushed technique, while layering and overlapping was used for many of the creations.

The black draped kurta with matching Patiala pants, the onion pink long brocade and Chanderi dress, the maroon and blue kurti with orange crushed lehenga, and the ivory draped long dress were feminine and fluid in form and shape. Experimenting with the sari and choli, Vaishali presented a combination of the duo – a blue stitched sari with attached blouse appeared on the ramp in silk Chanderi worn with a golden brocade jacket.

It was a great display of layers and contrasts that made a stylish fashion statement from Vaishali Shadangule with her “Reverb” collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Deepika Govind Celebrated the Beauty of the Patola at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

Mumbai, Sunday, August 5, 2012: Paying a tribute to the Patola from Patan, Deepika Govind’s collection titled “Pop Patola” at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 was a celebration of Gujarat’s popular textile.

Combining single and double ikats with silks and satins, Deepika worked with a wide range of colours that ranged from shades of yellow, orange, magenta, aqua, violet and added stunning red to complete the story.

The silhouettes were western as the petal, bubble and balloon shapes made an appearance. Drapes were the highlight for dresses, layered skirts, peplum blouses, curved hem dresses, dhoti trousers, high waist wide trousers, diaphanous tunics and of course the saris.

There was a hint of contradictions at times in the colours and fabrics but the ethnic weaves and western silhouettes came together seamlessly in perfect harmony.

Fun motifs like cars, buses, fruits, flowers, planes and TV sets came to life on blouses, skirts and sari borders. The collection was a riot of colours, designs, patterns, detailing and embroidery on the ramp. Two toned fabric saris were the norm for Deepika as she brought in broad borders, embroidery and net with Patola and silk.

Cleverly engineering the fabrics for the saris and dresses she had the weaves running along sides, hemlines, front and back of the outfits. Appliqués of large flowers and touches of subtle embroidery highlighted the weaves. Keeping a firm hold on the silhouette, Deepika had short slim minis, U shaped hemlines, long lean blouses with back tie-ups, kimono style satin covers and will power sheaths.

Fan shaped shoulder and neck detailing appeared for the cute dresses, while looped front and back hemlines added a swing to the lean shapes. Satin cowl and cutwork stand up collars for Patola minis added a trendy element to the garments. Two strategically placed peacocks on the front and back of a mini; was a great feat of extreme weaving techniques.

It was a celebration of the beautiful Patola pattern, when Deepika Govind’s “Pop Patola” collection made a great fashion statement and showcased extraordinary textile techniques.

Gaurang Shah and Shruti Sancheti Opened Indian Textile Day and Dazzled the Audience with their Distinct Looks at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

It was Return of the 1950’s and 1960’s Glamour for Gaurang Shah’s Collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 Season

Mumbai, Sunday, August 5, 2012: Bringing together a clever mix of beautiful saris, anarkalis and ghagras, Gaurang Shah dazzled the audience with ethnic wear at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Calling his collection “Ardhagini” Gaurang presented garments that will appeal to the modern bride. The colours were the ever popular yellow, orange, red and pink – all very auspicious for that important day in a girl’s life. Working around the beauty of Kanjeevarams, Kalamkari and zardozi, the designer highlighted the intricate weaving known as Korvai for the magnificent South Indian saris.

It was the return of the glamorous 1950’s and 1960’s retro look, that Gaurang recreated with the beauty of Kanjeevaram silks and splashed them with animal motifs in bright hues that will be a dream come true for any bride.

The permutations and combinations of the Kalamkari prints with the beautiful brocades, were extremely creative and experimental. Gaurang brought the different prints in hot colours like saffron, gold, red, vermillion, green, black, blue for the salwars, cholis, saris, luxurious lehengas, and dupattas. The varied textures of the fabrics were beautifully brought together in each entry and the discreet zardozi embroidery appeared on sleeve edges and dupattas. Kurtas were regal and varied from floor to ankle length, at times panelled or pleated but at the same time allowed the gorgeous Indian textiles to remain the cynosure of all eyes.

Brocades with intricate zari and silk weave, glittered under the ramp lights with the prominent detailing being the giant “latkans” or tassels ending with animal shapes hanging at the back of cholis, or dupattas.

Gaurang Shah picked the most perfect show stopper for his display – the ever beautiful, elegant and charming Kirron Kher who glided down the ramp in a rich ivory brocade sari.

The rich heritage in textiles and prints was brought to centre stage by Gaurang Shah, in stunning creations and saris, which will delight the hearts of Indian women around the country.

Shruti Sancheti’s Smouldering Dramatic Collection Dazzled on the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 Ramp

The collection was called “Thar” and Shruti Sancheti ensured that the smouldering beauty of her inspiration was reflected in her collection for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Working creatively with Shibori, the look was rustically nomadic along with the unique stitch resistant technique of the Nebsarai village. The ombré effects and Shibori patterns played a magical melody with the Sindhi Tanka or Kutch stitch, which is a trademark of the region.

Adding negative appliqués, herringbone, chain and buttonhole stitches; Shruti brought in the handloom fabrics and a melange of colours like red, fuchsia, deep orange, mango yellow, indigo, royal purple, emerald and mixed them with olive, tangerine and peach.

Opening the show to the drum beats of the Thar region the youthful dancer Vaishali, swirled gracefully on the stage recreating the atmosphere of the culture.

The designer displayed saris, worn with Jodhpuri pants, cowl trousers, ijjars or churidars creating an unconventional duo. Shruti gave angarkhas, ghaghris, chogas, quilted jackets, kedia cholis and beautiful asymmetric maxis her distinct touches. There was a mix and match quality in the separates to create different looks.

The layering of the garments – at time 3 or 4 for one entry was done with amazing skill as the different colours, silhouettes and styles came together seamlessly to create magic on the ramp. Asymmetric hemlines were a favourite for the tunics and kurtas, which were teamed with slim or flowing pants. Tiny sexy boleros looked very stylish with cholis; while front drapes for the dresses with square cut-out backs added interesting detailing directions. Asymmetric smocks with embroidered collars, long embellished bibs for kurtas over skirts and the heavily embroidered sherwanis and lehengas gave a festive touch to the collection.

Making a dramatic show stopping entry at the end of the show was designer and politician, Shaina NC in a beautiful fuchsia printed sari with lavish work.

Giving the beauty of textiles and the craft from the Thar region a fashionable direction, Shruti Sancheti presented a colourful and striking collection to mark Indian Textile Day.
