Kashmera Shah wants to go the Angelina Jolie way!

International critics have given Gangs of Wasseypur, the first mainstream Bollywood film to be selected for the Director’s Fortnight, rave reviews following its world premiere at the 65th Cannes Film Festival earlier this week.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, who is renowned for his work in creating a niche in Indian cinema’s ‘avant-garde’ space, the film is an epic tale, spanning 60 years of two feuding families set against the backdrop of the rural coal mining communities in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. It combines clever filmmaking with a powerful, high-concept and entertaining plot, with revenge at its core. Accentuated by strong performances by a talented and eclectic cast comprising of Hindi cinemas finest, Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Richa Chadda, the film is cleverly told in two parts.

The Times (UK) said of director Anurag Kashyap; “(His) gritty, rowdy snapshots of contemporary India have marked him out as one of the hippest film-makers working on the subcontinent.”

The Hollywood Report called Gangs of Wasseypur; “A dizzying explosion of an Indian gangster film, whose epic structure and colorful, immoral killers capture the imagination for over five hours. Gangs of Wasseypur puts Tarantino in a corner with its cool command of cinematically-inspired and referenced violence, ironic characters and breathless pace.”

Screen Daily commented; “Never a dull moment … oozing visual style, laced with tight and often blackly comic dialogue,… this Tarantino-tinged Bihari take on The Godfather has what it takes to cross over from the Indian domestic and Diaspora markets to reach out to action-loving, gore-tolerant theatrical and auxiliary genre audiences worldwide.”

Generating widespread interest from critics and audiences alike, Gangs of Wasseypur represents the brave new Indian cinema breaking the cliches and conventions, something which Anurag Kashyap has come to be known for. The film is presented by one of India’s leading integrated film companies, Viacom18 Motion Pictures and produced by AKFPL.

Kashmera Shah wants to go the Angelina Jolie way!

The latest to be hit by the calorie consciousness bug is Bollywood bombshell Kashmera Shah. Not to be left behind in the eating-right-routine, Kash has started living on fruits and salads.

Yes! You heard it right. “Mornings are for fruits and juices, afternoons for raw greens, and evenings are for”, what else, but “more raw greens,” she quips with a wink. Ooh la la!

If this goes on, we wonder what’ll happen to her famous curves! Kash seems to have that too, all sorted out! She gorges on brown bread and butter after the greens! Oh oh! Butter after greens? Then what’s the use of the entire strict regimen? “One needs some fats and carbohydrates too, to balance things out in the body, isn’t it,” she retorts. Ah, yes! We simply forgot.

“Even if I can match up to Angelina Jolie’s hot-bod, I’ll be happy,” says Kash. All this, while chewing up on lots of iceberg lettuce and baby spinach, with a few slices of tomato and cucumber thrown on top, with sprinkled Italian seasoning at her favourite snack-spot Indigo; the upmarket restaurant in Andheri, Mumbai.

KKR victory boosts Brand SRK!

It’s surprising how cent percent correct Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar’s prediction has come about on the outcome of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A day before the match, the public relations specialist had said, “Chennai Super Kings is a tough team to beat, and it will take a strong initial lead. But Shah Rukh Khan’s fighter-spirit which seems to have rubbed onto Kolkata Knight Riders, will see his team win the finals in the end.”

Looking back, his words amazingly fit the outcome to a T. Megastar Shah Rukh Khan’s team Kolkata Knight Riders beat Chennai Super Kings in the IPL final exactly the way the publicist had predicted.

Chennai Super Kings did take the “strong initial lead” with CSK finishing on a total of 190 for 3. But KKR chased it with “fighter-spirit” and finally beat CSK to win the IPL. Dale had also said, “Not that it would end the controversies, but KKR’s victory will come as a breather to Brand SRK.” True again indeed!

Brand Shah Rukh Khan has been on shaky ground ever since Ra.One and the scuffle with Farah Khan’s husband Shirish Kunder. Followed the issue with the security during an IPL match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. And then, the charges about smoking publicly at a stadium in Jaipur during another match. At such a time, the IPL win comes as a big boost to Brand SRK.

Ajay Devgn’s Gajar ka Halwa to Vindu Dara Singh & Mukul Dev

The fun and brotherhood shared by Sanjay dutt, Vindu Dara Singh and Mukul Dev as the sandhu brothers in the film Son of Sardar is something all three of them miss today. The pranks they played are so many that a book can be written and the making of the film is what they all are eager to watch. Ajay Devgn to would be joining in the fun and one night he made everyone cry by feeding them huge spoons of the most dangerous chili paste by saying it is the most tasty gajar ka halwa ever.

Repeat performances from Jeffri and Hare with one win

each in JK Racing Asia Series Rounds 3 & 4

Malaysia ,27th May,2012-Both Nabil Jeffri and Aston Hare never faltered throughout the two ten lap JK Racing Asia Series races held today at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. The Eurointernational teammates won their respective races from pole positions

in Rounds 3 & 4.

In Round 3, Malaysian Jeffri got off to a great start to claim his second win of the 2012 season while his Eurointernational teammate, Hare, claimed his third. The young South African was happy with the result but was confident if he had a few

more laps, he would have been able to challenge for the win.

At the post race press conference, Jeffri was quick to thank his team, “they did a good job in giving me a good car. Better than yesterday’s. I had a good start and from the start itself I pulled away and made a gap with Afiq. When I looked in the mirror at the first lap, Afiq wasn’t there anymore so the pressure wasn’t there. But then came Aston and he made everything harder.

“I just kept pushing and stayed relaxed at the same time but the gap just kept decreasing and I was worried he is going to come, so I just kept pushing. I know he had the pace as well and I know I just had to finish myself.“The alignment of the car was a bit offset from yesterday but the tyres are really good but got a bit worn towards the end” ended Jeffri. For Hare, he wasn’t too pleased with his start, “Afiq got the run off me off the line.

Going into the first corner, I made sure not to touch anybody and went through clean. Then Afiq went off into turn four but other than that it was a good race. “We had strong pace towards the end of the race”. Hare kept pushing right to the end of the race to try for first, “I thought there was a chance, but there were not enough laps”. In third was Eurasia Motorsport’s Hiqmar Danial Hidzir who kept a consistent

pace throughout the race after taking Meritus.GP’s Akash Nandy for third on lap three. “I had a good start and overtook one car. I tried to take Aston at the start but I couldn’t get through as I was on the outside and he went down on the inside

“So I thought I would try to catch him later but then Afiq came from nowhere behind me and I had to fight with him for two laps but I managed to get away from him. Then I tried to catch up with Aston”.After being passed by Hidzir, Nandy then had to fend off the attacks of his teammate, Afiq Yazid, who by lap four managed to take fourth leaving Nandy to finish fifth.

Finishing the race in sixth behind them was Eurointernational’s Irfan Ilyas who made a climb from ninth, followed by rookie Australian Josh Raneri, Indian driver Raj Bharath, Singaporean Calvin Seibl and Australian Aidan Wright completed the top ten.

Tan Wei Ron finished the race at the back of the pack after an early race incident caused a slow puncture, leaving him having to pit to change tyres. “I got hit on turn four and got a puncture so I had to come in early to change, that’s how I lost all the position. The next race I am starting fifth so I’m hoping for the best”.

In Round 4, Hare got off to a good start but was challenged by Nandy at the first few turns. Both drivers went into turn 1 side by side before Hare got a better line and began to push to maintain the lead, which he kept all the way to the

chequered flag.“The car was good, but its still early in the Season with many rounds to go so you can never be too happy with the results. I definitely think we have work to do and we will improve onwards in the next few rounds” said Hare at the post race Press

Conference.“There is definitely strong competition. You can never relax in this sport. You justkeep pushing and see how it goes” he ended. Hare now leads the Championship by five points to his teammate, Jeffri and also leads the Rookie Championship from Wright and Raneri.

Behind Hare and Nandy was Ilyas who maintained his position in third while keeping up with the lead two while Jeffri began his move up the grid battling with Aidan Wright and Tan Wei Ron for fourth. By the end of the first lap, Jeffri managed to find his way past the duo into fourth and began his attack on Ilyas. Midway through lap 2, Jeffri found a way past to claim third before catching up to

Nandy for second.

The last two laps were intense with Nandy defending his position from Jeffri when on the back straight, Jeffri followed Nandy’s slipstream into the last turn before pushing hard at the main straight into turn one taking the inside line, overtaking Nandy and making the manoeuvre stick to claim second. Jeffri said “I’m happy to finish second, despite all the good drivers Irfan, Akash

who were quite tough to pass. From sixth to second was the best I could do. Aston was too far ahead and I knew the pace I had was the same as his so second was a good result for me”.

Nandy said, “We had a really hard race today, the weather was really hot. I had a good start and tried to take Aston at turn 1 but his braking was just so much better than mine”.On the fight with Jeffri, “I tried to keep him behind me but he is really experienced compared to me so we had a good fight and I managed to finish on the podium”.

Ilyas finished the race in fourth while behind him, the pack remained well behaved with fifth placed Aidan Wright, Tan Wei Ron, Danial Hidzir, Josh Raneri, Raj Bharath and Visnu Prasad maintaining their top ten positions all the way to the chequered flag.

Meanwhile, Yazid who started the race last, moved up the ranks to seventh and was catching up to the front when he and his teammate, Wright made contact. Yazid damaged his wing and began to lose positions, eventually finishing the race in eleventh.

Meritus.GP driver, Toby Earle was given a drive through penalty for a false start, which he took on lap 3, dropping him to the back of the pack. He was not able to recover positions and finished the race in 12th. For Indian driver Bharath, he was not too happy that he did not manage to reach his target but considering the situation, he will take the weekend as a lesson learnt. “It was a pretty good weekend. I managed to grab a couple of top ten finishes. In the first race I was just trying to get my rhythm back so the other three

races were decent, I would say. “I would like to thank JK Tyre, Motorsport Asia, Cornerstone and my parents

mainly for helping me to get here this weekend” he ended with a smile.

For Vishnu Prasad it was a hard four race weekend, “It was a hard weekend but I achieved what I came here to do. To get the pace down and to get closer to the faster guys, I got it down by six or seven seconds so I am pretty happy with it. It was all I got and I could do this much and I hope I can do another race and be at the top.

“I’ve learnt that its very tough competition here for one and its going to be a lot tougher if I am going to do it again so maybe do a couple more tests before the next race to get up there with the faster guys”.JK Racing Asia Series is scheduled for its first European race on 29 June to 1 July 2012 at Paul Ricard Circuit in France during the Blancpain Endurance Series.JK Tyre & Industries, the leading tyre manufacturer in India, is the title partner for the JK Racing Asia Series.

The JK Racing Asia Series is supported by Cody Maxx, SPA Design and official logistics agent, JAS Worldwide. The JK Racing Asia Series is organised by Motorsport Asia Ltd.

About JK Tyre Motorsports

JK Tyre has always been closely associated with the world of sports. Almost three decades back the company laid down a long term and sustained approach to promote Motorsport. Participating in this form of the sport has helped the company in continuously updating its products to meet the challenges of gruelling Indian conditions. The sport at that time in India was perceived for elite but JK Tyre took upon itself to package and redesign the sport to suit the masses. The company not only made the sport affordable but also equivalent to International operating standards. JK Tyre’s foray into Motorsport was a well thought out strategic decision to not only use and develop this virgin branding platform but also to realize the dreams of making India a force in the field of motor sport.

In 2011, the company acquired the Formula BMW Series and rechristened it as the JK Racing Asia Series (JKRAS). With this acquisition, JK Tyre created history in Indian Motorsport by becoming the first Indian company to acquire an FIA accredited series. The series has to its credit of producing as many as six of the current Formula One drivers, including reigning two- time champion Sebastian Vettel. By taking over the series, JK Tyre promises to utilize it as a platform to encourage and support the world’s best racing drivers and promote India as one of Asia’s motorsport capitals. Thus, JK Tyre has conquered two steps in the motorsport program where the new racing aspirants first establish themselves in India, then graduate to Asian level i.e. to Formula BMW which is now JKRAS and then they move to higher levels of racing. JK Tyre now stands closer to achieving its mission of bringing world-class motorsport to the Indian masses.

The Racing and Karting programme by JK Tyre has been the breeding ground for the country’s motorsport talents like Narain Karthikeyan, Armaan Ebrahim, Karun Chandhok, Aditya Patel and other new emerging talents.

Grand stage set for TCS World 10K Bangalore 2012

A world champion, a Commonwealth Games Champion, former winners and leading athletes from around the world, along with the cream of India’s running talent will form the men’s and women’s elite athlete field that will take the starter’s flag, wielded by CM of Karnataka Shree D V Sadananda Gowda, in the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bangalore, promoted by Procam International, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, here, on Sunday.

Ethiopia’s Deriba Merga, past winner of both this event and the Delhi Half, also promoted by Procam International, will be seeking to re-establish himself as the most feared front runner in Road Racing. Merga has already showed his form a little in 2012 with a sub-60 minute half on the hilly New York Half Marathon and is said to be in dangerous form. The other formidable Ethiopians are his compatriot, Feyisa Lelisa, bronze medalist in the marathon in last year’s World Championships and Dino Sefir, his former team and training partner who last year left their stable and has since made a big breakthrough, running 2-04 in Dubai in January to clinch an Olympic place.

Uganda’s Moses Kipsiro has been runner up in Bangalore and has already shown great track form this season over 5000m. The Kenyan charge will be led by two new comers on the block. Dennis Kimetto burst onto the scene in February, winning the RAK Half, backing it up with a sub-60 minute run to win the Berlin Half. He then established himself as a world star last month when breaking the World record for 25km, again in Berlin. In three outings off Kenyan soil he is yet to be defeated. Victor Kipchirchir will relish the challenge from Kimetto after his fine 59 minute half recently and Geoffrey Kipsang, runner up last term in Delhi will also, no doubt, be looking to go one better.

The ladies race is no less impressive with Grace Momanyi, a past winner heading the field along with her Kenyan Team mates, Philes Ongori (67 min half 2012) and front running Doris Changeywo, all looking for a form indicator prior to the Kenyan trials. Ethiopians Merima Mohammed, Namibian Hilalia Johannes and Hungarian Aniko Kalovics are the other fancied women athletes.

Indian long distance running ace Ram Singh Yadav will be using the TCS World 10K Bangalore on Sunday as a time trial, part of his buildup to the marathon in the London Olympics and he hopes to also finish among the winners from a strong and talented Indian men’s elite athlete field.

Besides individual glory, the athletes will also be fighting for honour in the Nation’s Challenge, which will see participation from 27 states. The teams will comprise two male and one female athlete and the winner in the Nation’s Challenge will stand to gain Rs 4.50 lakh, with the runner-up teams winning Rs 3.25 lakh, followed by 2.15 lakh and 1.10 lakh. The individual male and female winners will stand to gain Rs 1 lakh each, with prize money up to the first five places.

Yadav will have for competition the 22-year-old defending champion Suresh Kumar, who is looking to not only retain his crown but also improve upon his last year’s time of 30.17 minutes.

The other leading Indian men in the fray are B C Tilak, Rati Ram Saini, Kheta Ram, Santosh Kumar, V L Dangi and Soji Mathew, to name a few.

In the absence of defending champion Kavita Raut and fancied names Sudha Singh and Preeja Sreedharan, the Indian women’s challenge will be headed by another big name, Lalita Babbar. Babbar, whose favourite event is the half marathon, but possesses a good turn of speed is also confident of doing well on Sunday.

The women’s category also has some promising new talent in Archana Pal, Monica Athre, Priyanka Patel and Kiran Tiwari, among others.

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been put into place for the smooth conduct of the event.

There will be 150 medical professional and five mini hospitals, two on each side of the stadium, and five on the road. Seven ambulances will be deployed, two inside the stadium and five stationed on the route. There will also be doctors running along with the athletes for immediate medical attention, if needed.

Besides the doctors, there would be nearly 1500 Law & Order and Traffic Police on Race Day to prevent any untoward incidents. Their efforts would be supplemented by 500 private security guards and 1000 volunteers. 60,000 liters of water, besides the Sports Drink Gatorade would be provided to keep the participants hydrated. There will be a total of eight water stations and two Gatorade sports drink stations on the route.

The event would be telecast live between 7.00 am and 10.30 am on Star Plus and DD Sports.
