India’s top athletes to compete for glory in Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bangalore 2014

 

Indian Course Record Jackpot of Rs. 2 lakh each for men and women

 

Continuing to serve as a worthy platform for India’s finest athletes to display their talent at an event where the best in the world compete, the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bangalore 2014 will draw the cream of India’s strong and talented men and women runners on Race Day. Procam International, promoters of the World 10K Bangalore 2014 today announced that over 60 leading Indian runners will run alongside a superfast elite athlete field to challenge existing course records on May 18.

 

Leading the Indian elite athlete field at the start line will be such names as B.C Tilak, V.L Dangi, Soji Mathew and Santosh K among men, and Vijaymala Patil, Priyanka Singh Patel, Neelam Rajput and Manisha Dattatray Salunkhe among women.

 

While the total prize money is in excess of a whopping USD 170000, the winners – that can include Indian and overseas finishers – in the men’s and women’s World 10K categories stand to win USD 21000 each. The Top Indian men and women finishers stand to win INR 200000, the runner up winning INR 1,50,000, followed by INR 1,25,000 and INR 1,00,000. Indian athletes have a jackpot of INR 2,00,000 lakh each for men and women, if they lower existing Indian course records.

 

A performance bonus is also being offered for Top Indian finishers. While male runners finishing below 30:05 seconds will receive INR 1,00,000, runners finishing in under 30:15 stand to win INR 50,000. Women runners finishing below 34:45 seconds will receive a bonus of INR 1,00,000 and runners finishing in under 35:00 stand to win INR 50,000.

 

The brilliant Vijaymala will be among the top Indian women who will battle it out this year. She was a runner-up at the 2014 Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (2:59:58) and finished the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon in fourth place with a 1:21 finish. Vijaymala will be one runner to watch out for in Bangalore.

 

Winner of the 2011 Mumbai Half Marathon in 1:22:34, Priyanka is looking forward to a top finish at the event besides lowering her own record.

 

Well known, Neelam Rajput, a National Marathon Champion in 2012 has dominated running events in places such as Goa, Surat, Vadodara, Satara and Pune. She recorded a top finish at the recent Surat Half Marathon 2014 and is known to be someone who gives every run her best effort.

 

Young Manisha Salunkhe was among the top ten finishers at last year’s Bangalore World 10K. She finished sixth at the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2013 and in good form for the upcoming run.

 

Leading the men’s contingent, Tilak clocked 1:04:45s at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in 2011, his personal best. He finished fourth at the Ambuja Jaipur Marathon 2013, and is aiming for a top position at this year’s run.

 

Army man Dangi was runner-up at the TCS World 10K Bangalore 2013 and finished the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2013 in 1:04:53s. Looking to better last year’s performance, he should be the man to beat.

 

Kerala’s Soji Mathew is another of India’s fast running names and recorded a 1:05:45s finish at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in 2014. His personal best in a Chennai road running event is a respectable 29:49.

 

Santosh K finished last year’s Bangalore World 10K in 31:53 and looks forward to a better finish this year.
