GV screens the first look of The Attacks of 26/11

GV screens the first look of The Attacks of 26/11
>> Ram Gopal Varma held a simple screening of his latest film, The Attacks of 26/11 for the media and the families of the victims, the survivors and their families and the cops of the incident that shook the nation. The feel of the 15-minute first look was very heavy with the audience getting overwhelmed. While few opined that it took them back to the days they were trying to erase, a pint-sized wonderkid Devika responsible for nailing Kasab was vocal when she felt “that such films are the need of the hour. Kasab’s hanging should be made public so that people actually believe he has been hanged. I want it to be a lesson to all terrorists.”
>> Mrs. Salaskar agreed with Devika when she expressed her happiness on The Attacks of 26/11 being made. Ram Gopal Varma was clear in his thought. “I had never intended to make a film at that point when I went there. What could I have possibly seen at that place what the media had not already been showing ever since. I never ever intended to make a film on those attacks when I went to The Taj. Why now? Now after all these years, after the whole truth has been uncovered by the investigators and by the virtue of an extensive knowledge I have gathered from various sources about the actual truths behind those attacks from both authorized and eye witness accounts, I developed a desire to film the actual story of those attacks the attacks began.”
>> A touching screening indeed.
>> In the context of me launching the first look of my film ‘The attacks of 26/11’ at Nehru auditorium, the 23rd at 6 pm in spite of it not being relevant to the film by itself, I just wanted to clarify my position on the controversy surrounding
>> the highly criticized visit of mine to the Taj after the attacks of
>> 26/11… the allegation of my seeming insensitivity
>> towards the incident came out of a speculation that the late
>> Vilasraoji facilitated my visit to the Taj, for me to have access
>> to unseen views, in view of me casting Riteish in a film that I was
>> planning to do on those attacks. That speculation was completely
>> baseless because of the following reasons:
>> 1. What could I have possibly seen at that place what the media
>> had not already been showing ever since the attacks began?
>> 2. If I am accused of wanting to cast Riteish, then my question is
>> “Would I have cast him as a terrorist or a cop or what ? And this too,
>> at a time
>> when no one including the police knew what or who was behind
>> the attacks”.
>> 3. I was a member of a group of nearly 30 people that were only
>> allowed into restricted areas…
>> Why else would the investigative agencies allow any of us to
>> walk into areas where the crime scenes are being investigated?
>> The truth of why I went to the Taj at that time was nothing
>> but my curiosity to witness a scene of an unprecedented happening and
>> since I just happened to be with close friend Riteish I took the
>> opportunity …Riteish himself did not know that anybody would read
>> meanings into this act and his father Vilasraoji did not even know
>> that I was in the group.
>> Having said this, I also agree that it is highly understandable that
>> during those emotional and traumatic moments it is very
>> natural that various concerned would feel a strong sense of
>> indignation on such seemingly callous and selfish
>> behaviour… but like I said and maintained ever since that time, I
>> never ever intended to make a film on those attacks when I went to the
>> Taj.
>> Now after all these years, after the whole truth has been uncovered by
>> the investigators and by the virtue of an extensive knowledge I have
>> gathered from various sources about the actual truths behind those
>> attacks from both authorized and eye witness accounts, I developed a
>> desire to film the acutal story of those attacks

Pritish Nandy Communications & HSI to host World Compassion Day with his Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama

Non-Violence takes centre-stage as Mumbai nears the fourth anniversary of the tragic 26/11, celebrating World Compassion Day this 28thNovember, 2012,a day for global icons to take stage and share their ideologies, values and principles on how to make the Gandhian ideals of Ahimsa and Compassion relevant to our times.

World Compassion Day hosted in Mumbai by Pritish Nandy and the Humane Society International (the global partner of The Humane Society of the United States) will see the honorary presence of keynote speaker, His Holiness the 14thDalai Lama along with Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, with the focus this year being on animal welfare.

Speaking about World Compassion Day, The Dalai Lama says,“Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human but also human to other forms of life.”

Anil Kapoor says, “Mahatma Gandhi said, ‘The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.’ Compassion goes beyond shaking our heads and sighing,‘oh that’s too bad’. Compassion means, understanding the suffering of others, and wanting to do something about it. We must first want to change the circumstances of others and then we must try our best to change these circumstances.”

PNC Chairman Pritish Nandy says, “Eventually, WCD will be a global forum for inspiring and supporting change across social, political and environmental platforms to make the value of compassion actionable in our times. Unless we believe in ahimsa, we can’t make the world a better place for future generations.”

Andrew Rowan, President and CEO of HSI says, “Over the centuries, leading thinkers have noted that kindness to animals and concern for humans are different sides of the same coin. More recently, science has shown that people who abuse animals are also often found to be abusive towards their fellow humans. Humane Society International is excited and proud to be part of an initiative that celebrates the virtues of ahimsa and compassion for both animals and humans. The more you give, the more you have to give.”

Film Director

Not allowed in NFDC film Bazaar Viewing Room

NFDC Film Bazaar which is going on in Goa and the last date of which is 24th November 2012 did not allow a well known PRO turned film Director Harish Sharma to enter the viewing room of the film bazaar where 3 of his movies were been screened.

Sharma’s short film “The Last Announcement”, a documentary “A soldier becomes a Monk” and the third one a supernatural feature film “2 Nights in Soul Valley” which is to be released on 28th December in theaters, were playing in the film bazaar viewing room.

According to Harish Sharma he landed from Kolkata to Goa on 23rd November evening, and went straight to Hotel Marriott, where NFDC film Bazaar is going on. He wanted to go into the viewing room to see the response on his films and how NFDC had put his films in that section. He met a girl from NFDC and told her about his three films and she promptly replied “Oh! You are Harish Sharma”. “Thinking that I was the only one to send 3 films in Film Bazaar the girl remembered me and I was very happy,” says Sharma.

Even after informing the girl that his movies were screened in NFDC, Sharma was told to register first. “Then I went into the registration room where there were two gentlemen, I repeated my words again and told them about my 3 films in viewing room. I told them that I just want to have a peep on how NFDC is showing my films, on this they handed me a form to fill and also said that registration fee is Rs. 10,000.I was shocked on hearing this and I told them that tomorrow is the last day of film Bazaar and inquired why I should pay Rs. 10,000 to watch my own creation. I even told them that I do not wish to see the whole movie, but just a glimpse of it yet they did not agree,” reiterates Sharma. On inquiring the process if any of the journalists wished to watch the movies, they said that the procedure to enter the viewing room is same.

The incident had the director fuming on the mismanagement and corruption practiced in a film bazaar like NFDC. Though Sharma left the NFDC Film Bazaar, however he could view the films in INOX where the regular films screening is going on.

IFFI and Technology not going hand in hand

International Film Festival of India also known as IFFI is one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia. This is festival is conducted jointly by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Goa. In spite of the big names involved in this festival their website is not up to the mark. The IFFI website lacks presentation and it misses the epaper which provides the updates on daily basis. With era of technology and modernization progressing day by day, the IFFI website is going backwards.

Not only is the website lacking, but also the IFFI Daily that is published in Hindi. The fonts used to publish this magazine are very large which occupies lot of space. Due to this where they can publish 8 articles only 4 are published. It is sheer wastage of space in their magazine.

The only saving grace in IFFI was the opening ceremony, where Akshay Kumar remembered all the legends of Bollywood has lost like Yash Chopra, Rajesh Khanna, Dara Singh etc. As a tribute to them he also kept 2 minutes of silence. Hats Off to Akshay Kumar as he remembered our legends at the IFFI. Not many stars would’ve done that.

Daniel Yegon confident of defending title

Defending champion Daniel Yegon Cheruiyot of Kenya threw down the gauntlet to his fellow elite athletes, saying he was in great form and confident of defending his title in the Jamba Cloud Hyderabad 10K to be run on Sunday, November 25.

Daniel Yegon holds the unique advantage of being the only runner in the field of 14 elite men to have run on this course earlier and hopes to clock 28 minutes to claim the winner’s purse of Rs 1.5 lakh. Yegon is among the second batch of elite athletes that arrived in Hyderabad, among them Ugandan Jackson Kiprop and fellow Kenyan David Kiptoo, winner of the Andaman Half Marathon on November 18.

“This is my first visit to Hyderabad and i am looking for a good race.

The competition is going to be fierce and I am hoping to finish the race in 28mins. A good timing here will also help me prepare for a full marathon,” said Kiptoo.

Kiprop, who recently finished 7th in the Half Marathon World Championships and has a personal best of 28.35 in the 10K will be looking to upset the applecart of the Kenyans. He said he was in strong shape currently and hoped for a good run on Sunday.
