WON’T QUIT AS BJP PRESIDENT: GADKARI

‘WON’T PROJECT ANYBODY AS PM BEFORE POLLS’

New Delhi December 7th, 2012- Nitin Gadkari has made it clear that he will not quit as BJP president. Speaking at the session – kab khilega kamal—at Agenda Aajtak ,TV Today Network Conclave, Gadkari said, “There’s no FIR, no income-tax notice, no court summons against me. I cannot be dishonest just on the basis of allegations and perception. There’s no question of resigning as party president. Prove one allegation against me and I will quit. I am Dabangg and I believe in responding with eye for an eye.”

He also said, “Kejriwal’s allegations of land grab have been proved false. My links with Pawar have also been negated.

To cap the debate on Modi being the prime ministerial candidate, Gadkari said BJP won’t project any leader for the top post before the Lok Sabha elections. “We will decide on the PM’s candidate after the election results. We will wait for the scenarios to emerge after the results. Our party doesn’t believe in PM from PM’s womb.

Will Gadkari get a second term as BJP president? “I didn’t go to anybody to become party president. The decision will be taken by the BJP parliamentary board.”

But will the BJP face the drubbing again in 2014? “It’s the era of coalition politics. Regional parties don’t want to back the Congress. Once we get close to the 275 figure, all these parties will fall in line. The BJP is no untouchable. It’s all about the politics of convenience. If they did not support us on FDI in parliament, it’s because of the fear of CBI.”

At Agenda Aaj Tak, there was a heated exchange between Baba Ramdev and Congress politician Sanjay Nirupam on the issue of bringing back black money into the country. Ramdev claimed money from abroad as FDI in multi-brand retail is just a fraction of the black money stashed abroad. He also accused Congress MPs of being agents of Walmart.

Ramdev said, “Why do we need Rs 2lakh crore FDI when more than Rs 10-16 lakh crore black money is stashed abroad. Black money is around 18-21% of the GDP. If the money is brought back, India’s growth will automatically rise. The issue of corruption will be a big issue in the next elections and the Congress-led government which is on ventilator will be wiped out.”

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam tried to counter the Yoga guru by saying that “India is bound by the double tax avoidance agreement and 700 names of Indians who have stashed money abroad cannot be named because it will be a violation of the bilateral agreements with foreign countries. He said it was a technical issue which is being given a political colour.”

Nirupam accused Ramdev with doing business with yoga and charged him with not paying service tax of Rs 9000 crore.

Ramdev said, “It’s shocking that donations to Patanjali Yoga peeth is taxable, while donations to the Congress party is not taxable. If there’s black money in Patanjali Yog Peeth, I will not enter the ashram.”

Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said the country has taken several steps to invigorate its intelligence apparatus after the 26/11 attacks.

Talking about the secret execution of 26/11 accused, Ajmal Kasab, he said, “It was a secret operation and my police background helped me to put the mission in place. The toughest part of the operation was the transportation of Kasab from the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai to Pune. And it was a top-secret. The Afzal Guru files have come to me and I am examining it.”

To a query at Agenda Aaj Tak on whether India will embark on another secret mission to smoke out terrorists like Dawood Ibrahim, Shinde said, “The government is hammering out a strategy and talking to international agencies to extradite not only Dawood, but all terrorists holed up in other countries.”

So why has Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik being invited when the country has done nothing to bring the 26/11 guilty to book, Shine said, “International relations have to maintained. Sports and cultural exchanges should continue. But we are making visa norms very stringent”.

Tata Motors Full Throttle Dominate JK Tyre Hornbill Rally

~Take home Overall/Pro-Expert, Pro-Stock, Novice and Best Institution titles~

Delhi, December 6, 2012: Team Tata Motors Full Throttle completed a clean sweep of titles with Bangalore-based husband-wife combination of Satish Gopalkrishnan and Savera D’Souza emerging winners in the Overall and Pro-Expert categories in the JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship that was run as part of the Hornbill Festival, here on Thursday.

Gopalkrishnan and Savera, winners of the first round in Bangalore, picked up 25 points that moved them from third to second in the Overall standings with a tally of 60, behind leaders Karthick Maruthi and Sankar Anand (Team Mahindra) from Erode who finished seventh overall but fifth in the class.

In the Pro-Stock class, another Bangalore pair of Chidananda Murthy and navigator Sujith Kumar BS, also of Tata Motors Full Throttle team topped the charts followed by team-mates Kanth Gowda and Kuriakose Elias Parel and MD Ganesh Moorthy and M Prakash.

Full Throttle also swept more awards as the team was adjudged “Best Institution” while its team members Dimapur’s Philip Lam was declared Best Navigator and Tsote Their of Kohima, driving a Tata Xenon won the special award for “Maximum Zero” penalties.

Adding to Full Throttle’s silverware was Nitoka Chopy and Philip Lam from Dimapur in a Tata Indica, who won the top honours in the Novice class.

“We had a good outing and the route was excellent with a good mix of tarmac and dirt. Also, the pace was fairly brisk and that made it exciting. Also, the warmth and goodwill of the local people here, besides of course the Hornbill Festival, added to the ambience. We really enjoyed the event,” said Gopalkrishnan who along with Savera is acknowledged as one of the top pairings in the Time-Speed-Distance format of rallying.

The Bangalore duo, driving a Tata Indica Vista, returned a penalty time of 46 seconds, finished seven seconds ahead of private entrants Nirmal Das and Chandan Sen in a Maruti Gypsy while Jagmeet Gill and Yogesh Gupta of Team Volkswagen and driving a Vento, finished third in one minute, one second.

Murthy and Sujith, recorded their third outright win in the Pro-Stock class following their triumphs in Bangalore and Ranchi to take their championship tally to 90 points.

“We tried a new formula for our calculations and it worked. Thanks to Satish (Gopalkrishnan), we were able to try out this option and obviously, we are happy to have won here. The route and terrain were just perfect,” said Sujith.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his Cabinet colleagues presided over the prize-distribution function.

Debates, Discussion and Dialogue propels Agenda Aaj Tak

New Delhi December 7th, 2012 – Just days after senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj created a flutter by publicly endorsing Narendra Modi’s candidature for the PM’s post, she today at Agenda Aaj Tak Conclave tried to cap the debate by saying there’s a difference between being a claimant and being eligible. Sushma said, “Modi is capable. There’s no doubt about it. There are five to six leaders in the party who are also capable of being PM. Nobody is in the queue. It’s the strength of the party that there are so many capable leaders. While Digvijay Singh tried to drive a wedge in the BJP by saying Sushma Swaraj was the most suitable PM candidate, she said, “I personally think, the BJP should not announce the PM’s candidate before elections. If we project a leader today and then if we don’t have the numbers after the elections, it will then be a question of acceptability. In the era of coalition politics, it’s prudent not to be project a leader before the polls. If BJP sweeps the poll, then there’s a different scenario, if we are short of numbers, the scenario is different.”

Digvijay Singh was very candid when he said, “In our party, there are no claimants for the PM’s post. The high command’s wish is the command.”

Later in the day at Agenda Aaj Tak, During a session – ‘India Maange More Vikas’, Parliamentary affairs & Urban Development minister, Kamal Nath said “ only reforms in governance can give impetus to growth. Only when we initiate reforms in governance, we cannot achieve growth targets. Earlier, our growth was driven by the public sector. Now, growth is powered by the private sector. The biggest hurdle is government red tape. We have to unleash our entrepreneurial ability. When we clocked 8% growth, it was mere statistics for the people in the villages. The other big problem is the fragmentation in politics, in which regional parties are only interested in pushing their own agenda.”

Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Parivar, Shri Subrata Roy Sahara said, “India is worried about brain drain. But what the government should worry is about capital drain. Indian businessmen are setting up business abroad. Anybody with entrepreneurial skills cannot start a business due to administrative red tape. Capital formation is a huge hurdle. The job of the regulator is to regulate, not ban. Licence raj has come to an end, but there are too many hurdles.

Chairman, RP –Sanjeev Goenka Group, Mr Sanjeev Goenka said, “The government should be a catalyst for growth. Politics of opposition should stop if we want growth. The entrepreneur should be given free hand.”

Social Networking Kamaal Ya Janjaal, this session saw author Chetan Bhagat, social activist Kiran Bedi and Union minister Manish Tewari vehemently defend the social networking revolution.

Chetan Bhagat said, “Facebook and twitter have brought an information revolution. If you shackle social media, people will be wary of expressing themselves online. Policing social networking sites will take India backwards. There cannot be a legal remedy. There’s no technology to regulate social networking sites.”

Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting (Independent Charge), Manish Tewari said, “Facebook is a march of technology, a paradigm leap. The government is ready to debate the contentious clause, 66A, in the Information Technology Act. And we are also ready for an amendment of law, but only after a debate.

Social activist Kiran Bedi said, “Self-regulation and Net etiquette is the key. The law should not be amended. But the law enforcement agencies should be educated on its use. There is no social media policy in the country. Guidelines should be drawn and these should include establishing, educating and enforcing the guidelines.

The two new flavours are being launched with a quirky ad film which is a colourful and remixed rendition of the legendary song sequence from a classic blockbuster “Moondru Mudichu” and features leading actress and Mirinda brand ambassador, Asin. Directed by the National Film Award winning Tamil Director, Gautham Menon, the ad recreates the classic love triangle from the film and sees Asin in a boat where her two suitors are vying for her attention. Pressures of urbanization threatening historic monuments and Rock Art sites, says Vice President

· The 45 days festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari and Hon’ble Union Minister of Culture Ms. Chandresh Kumari Katoch

· Scholars from 20 countries will be participating in the festival to deliberate over the new ways to preserve and understand this ancient art form

New Delhi, December 6, 2012: The pressures of urbanization and population growth are threatening country’s historic monuments and prehistoric rock art sites and immediate actions are required to prevent the “irreparable damage” to these treasures, Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari today said while inaugurating the International Conference on Rock Art 2012 here.

“The pressures of organization and population growth are not only threatening our historic monuments but also pre historic rock art sites. Unless we act quickly to improve the manner in which we look after these treasures, irreparable damage could be caused.

This is a great national enterprise in which in which different arms of the government should partner with civil society and local communities with required imagination and administrative resolves. There is a growing recognition of the need for a multi disciplinary approach to rock art studies given its archeological worth and utility as a tool; for developing a better understanding among the people of the world,” Shri Ansari said.

The 45-days long festival is being organized by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts along with Ministry of Culture, Government of India to popularize and protect the pre-historic rock art, one of the most ancient form of human expression.

The festival will feature an exhibition showcasing pictorial depiction of rock art sites from India and across the globe, an academic conference on conservation of this ancient art by scholars from 20 countries as well as live workshops on Indian tribal and folk arts that has the continuing tradition of rock art.

“I am happy to be here today for the inauguration of the international conference of rock art being organized by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. I extend a warm welcome to the distinguished scholars who have come from various parts of the world to participate in it,” the Vice President added hailing the initiative.

India is fortunate to posses one of the three largest concentration of this world heritage the other two being Australia and South Africa, where rock art is still a living pursuit.

To make people experience the unique nature of rock art, a cave-like set up has been designed on the lines of Bhimbetka, an archaeological World Heritage site located in Raisen District in Madhya Pradesh. The part of exhibition that features global rock art has been divided in zones showing art forms of different continents. The exhibition showcase rock arts pieces related to pre-historic era ranging between 4,000 and 12,000 BC.

The Indian wing also exhibits various tribal art forms that shows continuity of the tradition of rock art. The art forms includeSaura (Odisha), Warli (Maharashtra) and Rathwa from Gujarat.

During the workshop, the rock art scholars and artists across the globe would demonstrate the journey of rock art, techniques and materials used for its depiction along with similarity and their differences in the art form across the countries.

Renowned scholars from 20 countries representing five continents (Asia, South Africa, Australia, Europe and United States of America) would present review and overall status of rock art studies in their respective continents giving global insights into recent developments, challenges and problems through special lectures in the conference.

“This is an initiative which will help in understanding the roots of rock art and the journey since then, helping people to relate their theoretical knowledge with practical. India is fortunate in possessing one of the three largest concentrations of this world heritage. However, in India we still see a living continuity of this tradition in folk and tribal art forms. Therefore, it is a proud privilege for the IGNCA to host such an international conference. The conference is all the more relevant for the IGNCA as it is one of rare institution in the country to have a well developed research and documentation programme of rock art.” said Dipali Khanna, Member Secretary, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) was established in 1987 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, as a centre for research, academic pursuit and dissemination in the field of the arts.
