Mumbai, 17th Feb 2013: Rae Sport, a leading eco-friendly water sport company, for the first time in Mumbai, organized a dragon boat race between college teams as a part of the college fest – iTantra 2013. Set up on the shores of Girgaum Chowpatty at H2O Water Sports Centre; the dragon boats took over the seas to make the best use of the beautiful coastline of the city! It took place in the open waters with a team of ten or more situated in a single boat, rowing together to the finish line. The boats were long and could be toppled over or swerved out of control if not maneuvered in sync. Dragon boating manifests as a team sport, a sport of unity and strength.

As soon as the announcement of hosting a dragon boating event was made by Thadomal Shahani Engineering College (TSEC); student organizers of iTantra 2013 Festival witnessed a slew of teams appear for the training. More than ten teams (150 students) participated in the race, and the home team TSEC-G College stood victorious at the end of the eventful day!

Rae Sports was the sports agency behind this unique event. They provided the boats, equipment and free training sessions for three days from 12th Feb-14th Feb ‘13 to the students. Their motive to be a part of this attempt by iTantra was to promote water sports in Mumbai.

SNDT-A- 209.65s

TSEC-G- 141.95s

RIZVI-E- 151.06s

RIZVI-C- 146.28s

In the first semi-final, TSEC-G managed to win comfortably with a considerable margin even though SNDT-A has a 15s advantage for being an only Girls Team.

For the 2nd semi-final, there was a tie between the two teams and there had to be a re-race conducted. After which RIZVI-C went through to the finals.

Final Results
The final match took place between TSEC-G and RIZVI-C. This race was worthy of being a final with both teams giving each other tough competition.

Both the teams were going neck to neck and finally the home team pulled it off in the last few meters. TSEC-G, the winners of the Dragon Boating competition won a cash price worth Rs.10, 000/-

Japan smashes Fiji in the opening match of Hero Hockey World League

New Delhi, 18 February 2013: Japan women’s team smashed Fiji women 14-0 in the opening match of Hero Hockey World League Round 2 Delhi 2013 played at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium today.

The Japanese team played attacking game since the beginning of the one-sided match and in the first half, they scored eight goals to put their team on the winning streak.

In the 9th minute of the first half, Japan earned their first penalty shoot and Shiho Sakai converted it into goal. Soon after, captain Rika Komazawa scored second goal through a penalty corner in the 12th minute.

The Japanese team kept scoring goals at regular intervals in the first half. Captain Rika Komazawa scored her second goal in the 14th minute. Japan’s fourth goal was scored by Akiko Kato in the 17th minute, Miyuki Nakagawa scored fifth in 20th and Aya Ueda score sixth goal 28th minute. The seventh and eighth goal of the first half came from two successive penalty corners by Kumi Banda in the 32nd minute and Shiho Sakai in the 34th minute of the game which helped Japan take a lead of 8-0.

In the 2nd half of the game, Japan continued its attacking game and scored a total 6 goals to put the game out of Fiji’s reach.

In the 37th minute of the game Japan’s Kumi Banda scored the ninth goal of the game through a penalty corner. This was followed by a field goal (tenth goal) in the 43rd minute by Sachimi Iwao, (eleventh goal) by Aki Mitsuhashi in the 45th minute. A penalty shoot in the 61st minute by Shiho Sakai resulted in the 12th goal of the match. The 13th and 14th goal of the match came through field goal by Ayaka Nishimura and Yuri Nagai respectively.

Japan’s Shiho Sakai was adjudged Player-of-the-Match for scoring three brilliant goals.
