YASH RAJ FILMS VINDICATED

IN CASE FILED BY AJAY DEVGN FILMS

8th November 2012: After the COMPETITION COMMISSION dismissed the complaint filed by AJAY DEVGN FILMS (ADF) on the basis that they were of the opinion that there was no contravention of the Act in this case, the COMPETITION APPELLATE TRIBUNAL, in a hearing today, also refused to pass any interim order against YASH RAJ FILMS (YRF) on the ground that the complainant had not put forward sufficient facts to establish that YRF had violated the Competition Act.

We completely refute the press release put out by ADF as the Competition Appellate Tribunal did not find any merit in the contention of ADF because the Tribunal was of the view that ADF has totally failed to establish that the agreements entered into by YRF with the single screens cinemas would cause any appreciable adverse effect on competition. It was also noted by the Tribunal that YRF had announced the release of its film on 27th June 2011 with its announcement of the release of its film for Diwali 2012 and commenced booking of single screen theatres in June, July & Aug 2012. On the contra, ADF announced the release of its film only on 29th May 2012 and approached the single screen owners only in October 2012 by which time YRF had taken a lead. It was expressly noted that the number of screens contracted for JAB TAK HAI JAAN, being far less than that of EK THA TIGER, prima facie no case of adverse effect on competition, much less appreciable effect on competition, was made out.

In a free competition Ajay Devgn admits that the cine goers will decide the film that they wish to see. With both the films having opened the booking on the same day, the cine goers already seem to have expressed their verdict. Even as we go press with this release, we are being approached by a large number of theatres with offers to screen our film.

Despite several media queries, YRF has maintained a strict media silence while the matter was pending before the competent judicial authorities, deeming it inappropriate to comment on the matter while it was before the judicial authorities. YRF has never desired nor manipulated such publicity.

It is unfortunate that our refusal to comment has led to aspersions being cast on YRF’s business practises, which have always been ethical and of the highest standards.

With this matter having been laid to rest for now, we would like to get back to releasing JAB TAK HAI JAAN this Diwali on the 13th of November. This is the time to celebrate a Yash Chopra Romance, which has traditionally lit up homes worldwide, during this festive season.

And Yash Raj Films’ will continue to do so, jab tak hai jaan!

Vietnamese trainers flown down to train Action Abraham for Race 2

Taking his love for action to a deadly high, John Abraham is back to the zone he reins in, performing some adrenaline pumping stunts, including a highlight cage-fight that pushed his body to its extremes.

The hand-to-hand combat scene left John with an injury but the actor continued to push his body to its limit, with as many as 540 air-kicks, for which professional Vietnamese trainers and African fighters were flown down to train the actor.

Producer Ramesh Taurani says, “It was a cage fight sequence and is one of the biggest highlights of the film. In fact, even John ended up with a minor injury but we shot the scene till 2 am and completed it.”

What made it even more challenging for the actor, was the fact that he had to stick to a liquid diet to maintain his look in the film.

Admitting that it’s one of his toughest scenes to date says John Abraham “What made it more grueling was the fact that I had to survive on a liquid diet for one whole week. The look is a tricky combination of beefy and lean.”

Says a source “ John Abraham gave it his best and pushed himself to the extreme limit both in training and his diet. The entire scene was an expensive affair for the producers since foreign professionals had to be flown down for a single scene but John gave it his best and ensured the scene looks as deadly as it’s meant to be”.

One need not introduce the sensational music composer Jodi Laxmikant- Pyarelal. They have been in the industry for decades now, giving beautiful melodies to the world of glamour. However, after the death of Laxmikant the melodies seized to come from Pyarelal Sharma. But after a decade of exile the ace composer returns to the musical world. Pyarelal has composed for the album “Aawaaz dil se” which launches a debutante singer Pankaj Chaturvedi. The album is released by Music Company Eternal Dreams and the lyrics are penned by Sameer. We spoke to Pyarelal Sharma about his new venture. Here are excerpts from an exclusive interview with Pyarelal Sharma

After 14 years audience once again get to hear your music, but what was the reason for being away from your fans for such a long time?

No, no, we were never away from our fans. We had only taken a break for few years. We worked continuously from year 1963 to 1998. During this period we read about folk music, classical and western music, we also performed abroad. But we are feeling good that after such a long gap we return with “Aawaaz dil se” to meet our audience.

Tell us something about your album. This being your first album how was the experience of working on it? Why name it “Aawaaz Dil se”?

The album released by music company Eternal Dreams introduces new singer Pankaj Chaturvedi. There are 6 songs in the album, one is on mother “maa”, one is a romantic number and there are a few remixes as well.

To christen the album “Aawaaz dil se”, there was only one reason and that is- when a person sings from heart, the voice has a soul which reaches million other hearts. And Pankaj is a prolific singer who has sung all the songs with utter dedication and soul.

My experience of working on the album was that I had all the freedom and there was no restriction which is often faced when composing for the film where you need to think and compose as per the situation. So here there was no such restriction.

Was there any special reason for working with Pankaj?

Pankaj’s voice reaches the listener’s heart. Neither his voice is like that of Kishor,Rafi, Manna Dey, Sonu Nigam or Shaan. His voice is versatile and doesn’t sound like any of the singers. He has worked hard, dedicatedly and has sung more than expectations. I am saying this not because I have worked with him on this album, but I am saying this because I have heard the soul in his voice and when you listen to him, you will say so too.

What kind of songs are there in this album and when the audience listens to the songs will they be reminded of The Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s music?

There will be melodies of Laxmikant-Pyarelal but it will also have a unique fragrance to it. I have full faith that not only this album “Aawaaz Dil se” will cast a spell on the audience but so will Pankaj’s voice.

You have added the song “Main shayar toh nahi” in this album, so any particular reason behind adding this song?

This song is liked by every person no matter what age group he belongs to. The song retains the flavours from its original track but we have also modernized the song.

Any other specialty of this album?

The album has the combination and coordination of 100 musicians and 160 A cappella singers which usually doesn’t happen. We have done the recording live and we have also used the keyboard.
