92.7 BIG FM celebrates the spirit of Pongal with a social cause

Well-known Music Director, GV Prakash strikes a chord with visually impaired children from Nethrodaya

January 13, 2013, Chennai: 92.7 BIG FM, Chennai’s No. 1 Music station and winner of the Golden Mikes Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2012 brought out a unique initiative to add zest to the Pongal festivities. Working towards a social cause, BIG FM gave an exciting opportunity to 15 visually challenged music enthusiasts to meet the well-acclaimed music director GV Prakash. Children from the self-help organization, Nethrodaya were selected to celebrate Pongal with their musical idol GV Prakash at his Devine Lab studios. Nethrodaya, an institution for the differently abled (Visually Challenged & Physically challenged) provides a host of career-enabling facilities as well as free boarding and lodging to underprivileged boys and girls, most of them hailing from rural areas.

The musically inclined children were picked up from Nethrodaya by RJ Ophe, boarded the 92.7 BIG FM Bus and then taken around Chennai to experience the sights & sounds of the city. The Children were completely enthralled by RJ Ophe as she kept them entertained with her jokes right throughout the city tour. After a few fun and games, the 92.7 BIG FM bus reached GV Prakash’s Devine Labs where they were welcomed by none other than GV Prakash himself. The children were then taken into the music studio where the artist performed a few numbers from some of his recent films. The children were captivated by his rhythmic vocals and were extremely delighted to be a part of this musical journey.

Commenting on the Pongal celebrations, a company spokesperson said, “We have been in touch with Nethrodaya for a while now and we have been supporting them in whatever way we can. In our constant interaction with the NGO and the children, we discovered that many of them were music enthusiasts. We decided to get in touch with GV Prakash who readily agreed to help us make Pongal a memorable one for the visually challenged at Nethrodaya. We just wanted these children to feel the joy of Pongal and what better way to get the message across with the universal language of music.”
