Hat trick for Don Bosco at the 3rd edition of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge

St Lawrence beat ANZA to finish 3rd

Mumbai, 15th January 2013: Don Bosco & Lilavati Podar locked horns in the championship game of the third edition of The Mahindra Youth Football Challenge. Both the teams displayed excellent techniques right through the game but Don Bosco once again emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Lilavati Podar, at Don Bosco Ground, here in Mumbai

Don Bosco’s team work & co-ordination lead to the 1st goal of the game in the first half, scored by Marc Dsouza. Lilavati Podar’s forwards on the other hand didn’t have anything going in their favour. Their forwards didn’t seem in sync with each other resulting in a lot of miss passes & solo runs.

Don Bosco’s known for defense lived up to expectation and kept a clean sheet, not allowing Lilavati Podar a single goal. A second goal in the dying minutes of the second half by Troy Dsouza sealed the championship for Don Bosco.

Sanath Valladares from Lilavati Podar was awarded as the Player of the Tournament

The third and fourth place match between St Lawrence, Kandivali and ANZA was an exciting one. None of them scored the opening goals and thus the game went into a penalty shootout and sudden death thereafter as the penalty shootout scores were leveled at 3 goals each. It was Ishaan Rana who sealed it for St Lawrence by scoring the sudden death goal (4-3)

The Mahindra Youth Football Challenge is played in six cities- Bangalore, Kerala, New Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Playing in six cities ensures that the tournament casts a wide net to identify some of the most talented junior football players in the country.

The Mahindra Youth Football Challenge is the Mahindra Group’s commitment to promote football at the grassroots level. The company has partnered with Scottish football giants, Celtic Football Club, who will take on the responsibility of training and developing young talent identified through the initiative.

The winners- Don Bosco won Rs. 30,000, the runners-up team- Lilavati Podar- Rs. 20,000 and the 3rd placed winner- St Lawrence- Rs. 15,000.

Final result:

Don Bosco, Matunga 2(Marc Dsouza1 Troy Dsouza1) bt Lilavati Podar 0
