Mumbai, September 25, 2013: As Indian cinema celebrates a milestone of centenary; The Taj Group of Hotels along with Tata Medical Centre encompasses a nostalgic show ‘UFF YOO MAA’ that will bring together all the iconic elements of 100 years of Bollywood cinema in 100 minutes. The play will be staged at Crystal Room at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai on 5th October, 2013 and the money raised for this event will be donated for a laudable Rs. 350 crore worth world class not-for-profit hospital, built by the Tata Group.

This enthralling play will be interspersed with film songs from the last 10 decades. For the first time ever Bollywood royalty like Kajol Mukherjee Devgan, Tanuja Mukherjee, Waheeda Rehman, Shabana Azmi, Asha Parekh, lyricist Javed Akhtar, fashionista Sonam Kapoor, filmmaker and music composer Vishal Bharadwaj and the inimitable Amin Sayani, amongst others will come together and share a common platform. The evening will also witness stalwarts recalling lesser known anecdotes from the past; while music and dialogues of the times will recreate the aura of every decade. Zee – Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winners will sing a medley of songs from the last 10 decades while renowned singer Usha Uthup will sing her most memorable songs at the event.

The Gala dinner planned by Chef Hemant Oberoi, Grand Executive Chef at The Taj Mahal Palace will serve an exceptional menu inspired from Bollywood. The carefully crafted menu will include delights such as Chennai Express (South Indian cuisine) to Delhi Belly (Delhi’s famous street food), Chandni Chowk to China (Chinese food) and Pardesi (international desserts) that will surely tantalize the taste buds of the guests.

Tata Medical Center (TMC) was formed to provide world class cancer care to the patients from Eastern and North-Eastern regions in India that sees higher registered cases of cancer. TMC is working towards offering a spectrum of services including prevention, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of the cancer patients. The proceeds from the play will contribute towards the expansion of the center’s hospital in Kolkata to treat underprivileged cancer patients in East and North East India. For the past few years TMC have been raising money through very special fundraisers such as Oh My God, which took place last year to support the expansion of Tata Medical Center, a comprehensive Cancer Care Center from the Tata Group at Kolkata.

Mumbai, September 25, 2013: The 15th edition of the Mumbai film festival presented by Reliance Entertainment and organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will be held from 17-24 October 2013 at Liberty Cinema, Metro Big Cinema, Marine Lines as the main festival venues and Cinemax, Versova as the satellite venue.

The 15th Mumbai film festival’s impressive line up of 200 movies and other highlights were revealed today at the curtain raiser press conference held at the Taj Mahal hotel in the presence of Mr. Shyam Benegal, Filmmaker and Chairman, MAMI, Mr. Amit Khanna, and Mr. Ramesh Sippy, Trustees, MAMI, Mr. Srinivasan Narayanan, Director, Mumbai Film Festival along with various dignitaries from the Indian Entertainment industry.

This year too the festival has announced new initiatives as part of the Mumbai Film Mart (Filmy Room and India Project Room) and a brand new Experimental film section to the festival. These new initiatives will be in addition to the other competition sections such as the ‘International Competition’, ‘Celebrate Age’ and ‘Dimensions Mumbai’. The total prize money at this year’s festival is USD 220,000.

The 15th Mumbai film festival will also host a celebration of Spanish Cinema organized in tandem with the Embassy of Spain in India. This celebration package will also include classics such as El Verdugo, Seven Days in January, Carmen amongst others.

Water for Life: conservation, storage, and recycling:

The Pashan Garh naturalist team created a water recycling system to reprocess the grey water from the staff village. The lodge’s water recycling system passes grey water from the showers in the staff village through a sand filter, producing 3,000 litres of water a day. The recovered water is further used for the kitchen vegetable garden.

A jungle home: Eco friendly architecture

Built on raised structures, the tents at Banjaar Tola allow for natural undergrowth and drainage. With pressed bamboo wall panels and natural bamboo floors, the locally crafted furniture, Bastar artworks and well-crafted bell metal figurines adds to the rustic ambience. With a light footprint, the accommodation is expressly designed to protect the environment as opposed to the conventional use of concrete and brick. Double layers of canvas with insulation materials and air gaps keep the tents cool in the summers, whereas hot water is piped under the insulated bamboo floor for warm, cozy winters. The Pashan Garh lodge was awarded the Eco-tourism award 2010 -11 for Best Eco Friendly Lodge/Resort granted by the Madhya Pradesh Eco-tourism Development Board. The award was won on various parameters like ecofriendly design, minimum use of land and no trees cut during construction as well as the promotion of rain water harvesting via an artificial lake.

Smokeless Chulhas for a healthier life

Madhya Pradesh consumes fuel wood worth approximately INR 25 million as per the Forest Department. The women use a traditional one burner stove to cook which consumes a lot of fire wood and is unhealthy due to the amount of smoke inhaled during cooking. Taj Safaris replaced the traditional chulha with an improvised smokeless chulha supported by a blower. The newly introduced model has two burners, allowing womenfolk to cook two items at the same time without using additional fuel wood. The initial figures suggest that the consumption of fuel wood has gone down by 40 to 45% with reduced cooking time and healthy conditions. There is a significant reduction in cooking time, while also ensuring a far healthier, smokeless environment.

Through these small and sometimes big initiatives, the Taj Safari lodges conserve wildlife on a sustainable basis and are constantly on the lookout for ways to give back to their neighboring communities traversing education & functional literacy, health and nutritional support, skill training & local enterprise development.

Day 2 at the Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2013 ensues with fervor

Following a grand opening ceremony and consequent celebrations to mark the commencement of the six-day long cinematic extravaganza, the second day of the Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2013 began with much enthusiasm amidst an army of devoted cinephiles eagerly awaiting the screening of the day’s first film – 200 Pounds Beauty.

Showcased under the category World Panorama, 200 Pounds Beauty, was a Korean film of 120 minutes Directed by Kim Yong-Hwa. It was a beautiful story of an overweight phone sex employee Hanna, who’s also a ghost for a famous pop singer. The film dealt with Henna’s insecurities, which lead her to attempt suicide but got interrupted by a phone call that changes her entire life. The film was highly appreciated by the cinephiles. The second film of the day was Hassan Benjelloun’s 108 minute Arabic film ‘The Red Moon La Lune Rouge’. The film, which came all the way from Morocco, was a fiction based on the biography of a great musician, who overcame the bitterness of infirmities, material deprivation and human cruelties by an unshakable faith. It was about the permanent challenge of artistic creation, inspired by an exceptional love. The never-dying spirit of this character had motivated everyone.

Regarded as one of the top 10 films showcased at this festival, The Children’s Republic was the next in line. Directed by Flora Gomes, this English film from Portugal was set in the West Africa. It was the story of a small country, which every adult had abandoned. But the children get organized and make the Children’s Republic a stable and prosperous country; however, they no longer grow up. In this 78 minute film the director had beautifully shown the power of children to change the world. Other films showcased in this category were Ricky Rijneke’s Hungarian film ‘Silent Ones’ and Lars Kraume’s German film ‘Meine Shwestern’ (My Sisters), also labeled as one of the top 10 films showcased at the festival. This 85 minute film was the story of a 30 years old Linda suffering from a congenital heart disease. On sensing her near death she made an attempt to come closer to herself and her two sisters – Katharina and Clara for once more.

The Indian Showcase category began with Kamal Hassan’s critically acclaimed film Vishwaroopam. Made in Tamil and Hindi, this 147 minute film was the story of Vishwanathan, a Kathak dance teacher in New York, and his rather happy marriage with Nirupama who was a nuclear oncologist. She hired a detective to keep a watch on her husband, who apparently ended up in a wrong place that revealed Vishwanathan’s true identity. In the afternoon of the day, the audience enjoyed some great Indian regional feature films such as Rajeev Kumar’s Punjabi film Nabar, Niranjan Thade’s Gujarati film Saptapadii (The Businessman’s Wife) and Gajendra Ahire’s Marathi film Touring Talkies. These films were appreciated by both Hindi and regional cinema lovers. All the films screened in this category also formed the part of the competition.

Some Indian classics, along with one Korean, were also screened on this day, under the Jagran Classics category. These were Girish Kasaravalli’ Ghatashradha (Kannada), Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand (Hindi), Ritwik Ghatak’s Meghe Dhaka Tara (Bengali), Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali (Bengali), and Kim Han-Min’s War of the Arrows (Korean).

Master Class, a panel discussion by LA Film Council on Co-productions marked the beginning of the Jagran Shorts segment. This open forum for interaction witnessed a panel discussion that featured illustrious participants from the film industry. Through the discussion they provided an insightful perspective on Co-productions. In the later half of the day, Cyrus Dastoor introduced cinephiles to some great national and international short films. Ara Arush’s The Hunter (Russian), Yacine Bouaziz’s Al Djazira (English), Dan Carrillo’s Zero Hour (English), Valentin Gagarin, Shujun Wong and Robert Wincierz’s Reverie-Day Dream (Animated, Silent from Germany), Gaurav Shimpi’s Chumbak (Marathi), Jean-Bernard Marlin’s La Fugue (French) and Chema Carcia Ibarra’s Misterio (Spanish) were some of those films. Beside these, MS Sathyu’s Garam Hawa (Hindi) and Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar directed Bombay Talkies (Hindi) were also screened in this segment.

The forthcoming days at the festival will host many more special segments dedicated to National and International cinema – screening numerous feature and short films across genres, directed by debutants as well as some eminent cinematic personalities from around the globe.

The final edition of the Jagran Film Festival is scheduled from the 24th – 29th September, 2013 at Fun Republic, Andheri West, Mumbai.

Cast of Desi Magic shoot in Patiala

Patiala, September 20, 2013: Ameesha Patel Productions maiden venture Desi Magic*s shoot is running in full swing, directed by Mehul Atha. The principle cast – Ameesha Patel, Zayed Khan and Sahil Shroff are currently shooting in Patiala, one of the Heritage cities of India.

Ameesha on the sets, *The city is beautiful and an important part of our film. The people are very warm and welcomed us with open arms. I play a Punjabi kudi in the film and the role that I am essaying is something that I have never played before on screen. Shooting here has been a wonderful experience which I will cherish forever.” Taking extra special care for her clothes, Ameesha confessed, “I love the Patiala salwars that are worn here. Most of my costumes have a lot of Patiala salwars with a lot of Phulkari work on the kurta, bringing out the textile richness of Punjab.*

While Zayed Khan, who plays a suave sophisticated guy, is on a eating spree. He said, *Our line producer has got the most fantastic local caterer who sets up a tandoor for lunch. So from the hot kulchas to the various tangdi kababs and reshmi tikkas, it has been a gastronomical experience. And yes, the hot, crispy jalebis with rabdi are what we call the malai of Indian desserts.. I have had to work out extra hard in the gym, so that we maintain continuity with my weight.*

Zayed and Ameesha are joined by model turned actor Sahil Shroff, who just landed from Mumbai a day before. The actor revealed, *For a performer, the first shot of a new film will always remain special and today I gave my first shot. Hence, Patiala will always remain very close to my heart.*

The film is in its second schedule. On its completion, the cast and crew will proceed to Europe for the final schedule. The cast will be stationed in Patiala for two weeks. The film is all set to release on February 28, 2014.

1. Tell us about how you went about the film, how you finalized the casting?

> I needed actors who are very good performers as they had to play double roles. Gulshan Grover and Amrita Raichand were already in the mind as I knew their capacity as an actor. Ali’s past works on big screen and his theatre background amazed me a director. I was relaxed because I had my lead man in place. So that’s how they came on board. We finalized Anisa after several auditions. She was a good choice as heroin, fresh yet very talented.

2.Main cast and the exciting experience of this quest that you would like to share?

> Filmmaking itself is an incomparably exciting process…there is no bigger high than creating a piece of art…shooting a film is always a roller coaster ride.

> This is the first time that Gulshan Grover in his long span of career has played the double role…He is one of the veteran actors in the industry who has portrayed most diverse range of characters on the screen but he never got a character with double role, I think I was destined to cast him in this role.

India’s gets its first martial arts comedy Local Kung Fu

Jackie Chan once explored comedy within the action genre and won the hearts of millions. Now India is attempting a similar feat, starting off with a humble beginning.

This week, the country will get its first own full-blown ‘martial arts comedy’ in the form of Kenny Basumatary’s Assamese feature film Local Kung Fu which boasts of some fabulously choreographed action sequences amidst rip-roaring humour.

What’s more! This is one of the most inexpensive action films ever made, with a budget less than a lakh of rupees! The film’s team neither had a great budget nor the need to use trickery-like wires etc to execute their fights. All the fighters of Local Kung Fu are genuine martial artists who’ve trained for several years.

Kenny Basumatary has not only written and directed the film, but also plays the main protagonist along with other cast comprising Utkal Hazowary, Sangeeta Nair, Bonny Deori, Bibhash Sinha, Ronnie Deori, Johny Deori and AS Deori.

Come September 27 and Local Kung Fu will release in seven prominent cities in the country with English subtitles for audiences outside Assam. The film will be screened by PVR in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Chennai, apart from an independent release in Assam.

The Unity of Faiths Foundation Launch on Friday 27th September Coincides with the Annual Free Festival to Unite London on Sunday 29th September

The launch coincides with the third annual Unity of Faiths Festival, taking place on Sunday 29th September 2013 in Southall Park. A response to the increased dissonance, cultural and religious divide that has estranged communities nationally and globally, TUFF, acknowledged by President Barack Obama and HRH The Queen, was launched with the mission to UNITE people and communities through the common factor of Faith, irrespective of religious belief, cultural or social backgrounds, and to subsequently create a more stable, tolerant and cooperative future for all. TUFF was the pioneering vision of the founders: Ms. Anna Prior, a former art dealer from Mayfair; Dr. Shamender Talwar, a Social Psychologist from West London and Mr G.S. Baat Bann Gayi music moves Sonu nigam to tears

The music launch of Jaypeeco India Pvt Ltd’s Baat Bann Gayi, directed by Shuja Aliand produced by Sayed Asif Jah and Megha Agarwal, took place at Hard Rock Cafe, Andheri.

But the best compliment young composer Harpreet probably received was when his father, veteran composer Kuldeep Singh said honestly, “I like the song more now. It is good,” as he watched the video. Harpreet, not minding the audiences, sought his father’s blessings by touching his feet.

Temptation reloads itself down under!

It will be the biggest show from Bollywood to ever go Down Under. After selling out in 12 countries, Temptation Reloaded is set to bring the jalwa of Bollywood to Wallabyland.

Temptation Reloaded, the biggest Bollywood production will play in Australia on October 7 at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park and will feature Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherjee, Jacqueline Fernandez. Meiyang Chang and Yo Yo Honey Singh in the line-up.

Barry O’ Farrell, New South Wales (NSW) Premier and Minister for Western Sydney had earlier announced that NSW had secured SRK to visit Sydney in October as part of the fourth annual Parramasala Festival in Parramatta. “Parramasala is a key arts and cultural event on the NSW Events Calendar and brings some of the world’s best artists to Western Sydney,” said Mr O’Farrell.

It has taken two years to put the show together. “The past two years have been a labour of love as we’ve worked tirelessly to bring this show to NSW. With a travel party of over 110, spectacular stage production, and the biggest Bollywood stars, it will be the first time we’ve seen such an extravagant event,” Co-Founder and Promoter Ritchie Perera said.

Top 10 films to be showcased at Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2013

Mumbai: The 4th edition of Jagran Film Festival has become bigger and better. Travelling to 16 cities across 7 states, the Festival has now reached to Mumbai. To be held from September 24-29, at the Fun Republic, Mumbai, the Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2013, showcases several national and international short and feature films across genres. While all these films are best in their respective genres, the festival has shortlisted the top 10 highly recommended films to look forward:

Meine Schwestern, which means ‘My Sisters’ is a 2013 German film made by Lars Kraume. This 85 minute film is the story of a 30 years old Linda suffering from a congenital heart disease. On sensing her near death she makes an attempt to come closer to herself and her two sisters – Katharina and Clara for once more.
Gaigimet (Keep Smiling) is a Georgian film directed by Rusudan Chkonia in 2012. It is a story full of dramatic events that take place at a beauty contest of mothers. This 91 minute heart-ranching film shows the struggle of ten mothers, five of whom belong to the poorest social layer, to win the main prize of the pageant, which is an apartment and US $ 25 000 cash.
Evdeki Yabancilar means ‘Strangers in the House’, is a Greek-Turkish film of 2013, directed by Dilek Keser. The film revolves around a house that can not be shared and becomes a silent witness of the intersecting lives of an old Greek woman, and a young Turkish man. This 90 minute film deals with the stubbornness of Agapi, the woman in his 80s accompanied by her granddaughter Elpida, and Yasar, a man in his 30s. Fighting over the ownership of the house, they are forced to share it together.
Rock the Casbah is a 2012 Hebrew film from Israel made by Yariv Horowitz. Set in the year 1989, an era of Palestinian’s struggle for independence, the film is about the extraordinary journey of a young soldier. Sent by the State of Israel to oversea the Arab population, he tires to find his place in the chaotic surroundings of the Occupied Territories. In this 93 minute film, the director shows how one incident changes the lives of four young soldiers and one Palestinian family.
Directed by Aku Louhimies, Naked Harbour is a Finnish film made in the year 2012. Set in 2011, it’s a Finnish love story of few people seeking love and approval in their lives, at any cost. This 123 minute film deals with the imperfection and weakness of these characters that are lost in their own world. Driven by a common need – to be loved, seen and touched – they are faced with something irreversible during one winter week.
The French film Morning Star is directed by Sophie Blondy in 2013. It is the story of a small circus and its company, which find themselves in the dunes near the North Sea. At this brooding place, without enough audience, the performers of the circus are left to deal with their conflicting personal interests and shortcomings. It’s the story of Heroy, the cruel and schizophrenic ringmaster who creates a secret plot, along with Zephyr, the magician and Zohra, the gypsy, to win the heart of Angele, the dancer. Would Angele leave Elliot, the clown who is haunted by his own conscience and come to Heroy? This 100 minute film tries to find the answer to this.
The Children’s Republic is an English film from Portugal made in 2012 by Flora Gomes. Set in the West Africa, it’s the story of a small country, which every adult has abandoned. In this 78 minute film the director shows how the children get organized and make the Children’s Republic a stable and prosperous country, however, they no longer grow up.
The final edition of Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2013 will open with Water – a 2012 Arabic film from Israel directed by Yael Perlov, Nir Sa’ar and Maya Sarfaty, Yona Rozenkier, Mohammad Bakri, Ahmad Barghouti, Pini Tavger and Tal Haring. Born out of a unique Israeli/Palestinian cooperation, this 120 minute film is a beautiful compilation of several stories directed by various Israeli and Palestinian directors. While some are fictions, many are based on self experiences of their directors. Revolving around the Israel and Palestine conflict, all the stories deal with human emotions about the issue from the angle of a common source of lives – Water.
A Night Too Young is a Czech film of 2012 directed by Olmo Omerzu.
It’s a story of the two boys who meet their school teacher Katerina and her friends David and Stepan on the New Year’s Day. They all end up together in Katerina’s flat, where the turn of events made them all spend the night there. In the darkness of that night, a sense of tension passes through the group. A series of adventures provide these two boys, who are barely more than children, a glimpse at the adult world. In this 65 minute film, the boys make the adults face the truth behind their power games, seductions and yearnings, which at times could be more confusing and dangerous than other life-threatening habits. The next morning they all, grown at least one night older, leave to their separate ways.
The Japanese film Ningen, which means ‘Human’, is made in the year 2013 by Guillaume Giovanetti and Cagla Zencirci. This intricate and delightfully amusing modern-day parable of 104 minutes is born out of the passion of these filmmaking partners, who have explored the magical world of Japanese folklore through Ningen.

Along with these international masterpieces, there are many national feature and short films, made in various regional languages by some highly-talented debutants as well as masters of Indian cinema, to look forward at the festival.

Sanjay Bhansali gives Aditya Narayan a big break with a song in Ram Leela

Aditya son of veteran singer Udit Narayan,will soon find his name on the music album of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Ram Leela – as the director/producer has given him the opportunity to croon to a song in the film.

Aditya Narayan who has been an Assistant director to Bhansali for the last 2 years, was finally given the chance to sing in the ambitious project as the director was taken by his voice ,which in his opinion perfectly suited a folk song.

Confirming the news says Bhansali’s spokesperson, ” Sanjay Leela Bhansali was impressed with Aditya’s work and he likes to encourage new talent. He thinks Aditya has done a wonderful job.”

The Story of the Making of the Constitution of India Acquires a New Meaning With ‘Samvidhaan’ Directed by Shyam Benegal.

~ A 10 Part Mini-Series on the never before told story is currently being shot in Film City and produced by Rajya Sabha ~

The Delhi connection of the Constitution of India – that was argued, articulated and drafted in the nation’s capital – is well known. The Constitution, and the story of how it was drafted, has now shifted to Mumbai for a cinematic avatar.

For over a month now, Studio No. 5 of Film City in Goregaon, has become the Central Hall of the Parliament House, where the debates took place to draft the Constitution of India, between 1946 and 1949. The studio has housed a replica of the Central Hall of that period and over 150 actors have gathered there to tell the story of the making of the Indian Constitution for a 10-part Mini-Series called ‘Samvidhaan’, directed by auteur Shyam Benegal and produced by Rajya Sabha.

“The Constituent Assembly of India sat for two years, eleven months and seventeen days to debate on and draft the Constitution. By the time this mini-series is over, we would have taken a little less than that time to make ‘Samvidhaan’ and tell the story of how our founding fathers and mothers fought against all odds to give a democratic shape to the destiny of India. It is an epic story, the story of the birth of our nation and we have done our best to do justice to it while also maintaining its historic authenticity and flavour. The idea was to bring out the drama, to make it as entertaining as it will obviously be educative,” said auteur Shyam Benegal on directing the mini-series.

Rajesh Badal, Executive Director, Rajya Sabha Television said, “It is a historic moment in Indian cinematic history. This is a story, of the pain and struggle, the passion and the compassion, the fights and the camaraderie that went into making the Constitution of India. It is a dramatization and fictionalization without losing the facts, an attempt both to preserve and cherish those who fought for the independence of India and more importantly to ensure that the freedom is maintained through democratic governance.”

Mr. Badal added, “’Samvidhan’ is the first project conceived and commissioned by Rajya Sabha Television in its efforts to document the history of the independent India. It’s an idea that germinated from Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of India, who encouraged RSTV to explore, document and present the underlying processes, decisions, events and personalities that shaped our nation post 1947. Certainly, after ‘Samvidhan’ many more such programs would follow. Rajya Sabha Television is proud to be associated with Shyam Benegal in this project. One of the finest filmmakers of all times, he was always a definite choice to handle the project and would certainly set the standards for our future works also. Its noteworthy that his uncle, Sir Benegal Narsing Rau wrote the first draft of the Constitution and he carries the legacy forward by presenting it on video for the first time.”

It is an interesting co-incidence that besides Shyam Benegal’s uncle, many other members of the cast and crew were related to the constituent assembly members, or have met them. The writers of the project are Shama Zaidi and Atul Tiwari. While Atul Tiwari remembers meeting a few member of the constituent assembly, Shama Zaidi’s father was himself one of the members.

“The last surviving member of the august assembly who sat between 1946 and 1949 to make the Constitution, died in 2008. My father was a member in those heady days where dreams of a nation met with the opportunity to make it into a democratic reality through a constitution. I heard stories of those times from my father. In nearly a 50 year long career in the arts, I had never had such an opportunity that was also a challenge. It was exciting and scary because you had to maintain the integrity of the story without losing the elements of drama and entertainment,” says Shama Zaidi.

Atul Tiwari, who co-wrote the script with Shama Zaidi and is also essaying the role of Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant says, “Our founding fathers have almost been forgotten, their invaluable contribution to the shaping of our destinies relegated to the footnotes in the history of the nation. This is an attempt to not only remind the masses about these great women and men, but also to show everyone the odds they fought, the suffering they went through in making our nation a democracy, a democracy that has stood the test of time.”

Sachin Khedekar essays the important role of Dr. B R Ambedkar, the chief draftsman of the Constitution of India. He says, “The Constitution of India has a significant, but little known Mumbai connection. It is said that Dr. Ambedkar spent most of his time at Wayside Inn café in Colaba mulling over the drafts and debates and writing and rewriting the Constitution of India. Even if this fact is yet little known, it will be well known from now on, that in true spirit of a cinematic Mumbai, the story of how it was made has been told in the city of Mumbai. I am sure that I share the spirit of other members of our unit when I say that it has been an honour to be part of this absolutely historic project. Such a project, just like the opportunity to draft a constitution for millions of people, comes but once in the life of anyone and we are all simply thrilled that Rajya Sabha TV took the initiative. In this little way our history would be preserved and more importantly, watched with interest.”

Dalip Tahil Ramani, who plays Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, says, “It has simply been thrilling working with Shyam Benegal on the project. He is a living encyclopaedia of information. While growing up, he has literally met dozens of people who were members of the Constituent Assembly of India. It has been a most humbling experience, both as an actor and as a citizen of India to have worked in this landmark project.”

“It took nearly a year and a half to do the research for the mini-series and get the details right. It took nearly a month just to construct the set. But the final result will be for all to see. Just under 400 people were directly associated with drafting the Constitution of India. Over a 1000 people have been directly involved in the making of this serial and the result will be for everyone to see. It is a cinematic attempt to rekindle the spirit of democracy in the hearts and minds of people,” says Dayal Nihalani, helming the chair of Associate Director.

The mini-series being produced by Rajya Sabha will go on air in January 2014 and has experienced film and television actors like tom alter, Rajendra Gupta, K K Raina, Rajit Kapur, Harish Patel, Anjan Srivastava, Mohit Chauhan, Utkarsh Majumdar, Divya Datta, Ila Arun, Rajeshwari Sachdev and Kennith Desai among others.

BORN FREE signs VIDYA BALAN for BOBBY JASOOS

-Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha have signed Vidya Balan for their forthcoming feature Bobby Jasoos, to be produced under their banner Born Free Entertainment. Vidya Balan plays the lead in a story that marks the arrival of India’s first Lady Detective.

“I found the idea of a lady detective irresistible as I did the title Bobby Jasoos” says Vidya Balan. “I’ve known Dia and Sahil for many years, they’re lovely people and one can sense that this will be their shared labor of love. That’s the kind of Producers everyone hopes to have. The final clincher was the script by Sanyuktha Chawla and Director Samar Shaikh who I’m really looking forward to working with”

Actor, Producer Dia Mirza is equally emphatic. “I’m thrilled to welcome Vidya into the Born Free family,” she says. “The script of Bobby Jasoos bears testimony to the fact that being patient and investing in good stories usually reaps good dividends.”

Born Free is happy to be again working with many of the people they associated with in their first production however Dia and Sahil will miss Zayed as he will not be continuing his association as co-producer as he would like to pursue his acting career and has responsibilities towards his father’s production house because of which he will not be able to depute time for this.

The film commences shooting mid-November this year and will be ready for a summer 2014 release.

Unlike her other roles in the past, Sangeeta Ghosh, as a self-made independent woman is seen vrooming around in a jeep on Sony TV’s Jee Le Zara. But looking at the confidence with which she drives around on screen, no would say that she’s new to it. “I know how to drive, but I am not that good at it. Personally, I hate driving! So for this show, I had my driver help me polish my driving skills. It took me two days to take control over the vehicle,” says the actress. She has now begun enjoying it and often takes her jeep for a spin on the sets. “Whenever I get free time, I catch someone from the sets and drive around the shooting area.” Meanwhile, Ghosh is also brushing up her Marathi language while shooting the show. Since she’s a fan of the veteran Marathi actress Sulbha Deshpande, who plays her aaji (grandmother) on the show, Ghosh doesn’t leave a chance to talk to her in Marathi. “Since I am from Mumbai, I know to speak Marathi, but not that fluently. So I make it a point to chat and talk with Sulbhaji in Marathi, I get to learn a lot of new words from her,” says Ghosh.
