GOPI’S TRYST WITH SNIFFER DOGS

Chandramukhi Chautala is an adept police officer fighting crime and solving cases with her unique team in the fun-filled crime fighting series FIR on SAB TV.

Gopi Bhalla plays the role of Constable Gopinath on the show and adds a dash of humor with his funny mannerisms of speaking English. In the ongoing track of the show, sniffer dogs were called in for a specific sequence. Kavita Kaushik aka Chandramukhi Chautala loves pets especially dogs but she also knew about Gopi’s phobia of dogs and devised a prank with the dog-trainer to scare Gopi.

Kavita Kaushik said, “Gopi loves to play pranks on all of us on the sets. I knew about his fear of dogs and devised a plan to scare Gopi. I told the dog-trainer to let one of the dogs off the leash and to instruct the canine to go towards Gopi. The dog followed his trainer’s orders and sniffed around Gopi which scared him a lot. We all had a good laugh at the entire incident. ”

Gopi Bhalla said, “Usually I am the trickster on the sets. But, this time Kavita got the better of me. I am afraid of dogs and was scared stiff when the dog started sniffing around me. I could not run away as I knew the dog would chase me. I avoided going anywhere near the dog till the entire shoot sequence involving the dogs was completed.”

Manjunath rocks the Bhagavad Gita

For the first time ever in the history of Bollywood, Manjunath presents a rock version of a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita. In the past, many scriptures from the holy book have been transformed into music, but this is the only shloka to have a rock version. This one definitely holds a different joy to it since rock Gods Parikrama belt out this track in the film. The rock band has not only composed the music of the film but also lent the background score to it.

Manjunath was the lead singer in his college rock band and hence Sandeep Varma, Director of Manjunath, wanted the music of the film to appeal to the youth. The music is edgy, and non-traditional so as to keep away from the conventional Bollywood masala and preserve the essence of Manjunath’s story. The track is a part of the theatrical trailer of Manjunath. In fact, even when urged by his peers to lend some masala with an item number, Sandeep Varma, Director of Manjunath took a firm stand and refused.

“I think this would be the first ever rock rendition of the Gita shlokas in the world. Since Manjunath was a singer in his college rock band– I wanted the music to be authentic rock, not what we normally hear as rock music in Bollywood. Music was in Manjunath’s soul, so it had to reflect what he was – edgy, restless and leaving an impact.”, says Sandeep Varma, Director of Manjunath.

Manjunath is inspired by the true story of an IIM graduate, working in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh who fought the fuel mafia and was brutally murdered in 2005. The biopic is also the first in India to be inspired by the life of a common man. Manjunath by Viacom18 Motion Pictures will release on 9th May 2014.

Mumbai 16 April 2014: Pushkar Sharma brilliant knock of 77 runs helped his team to claim third consecutive victory after defeating Sports College, Lucknow (UP) by one run in a neck-to-neck match in the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup, Inter State leg, played at HPCL ground, Mumbai on Wednesday.

Winning the toss, Al. Barkat Malik M. I. English School decided to bat first. Pushkar Sharma played great shots in his 77 runs in 92 balls with seven boundaries and he was well supported by his team mates Rayan Khan who scored 50 runs in 75 balls with two fours.

Shubham Singh played short innings of 38 runs in 32 balls which help them to score decent target of 227 runs in 45 overs against good batting line up of Sports College, Lucknow. Rajesh Sardar was the only bowler manages to take two wickets for his team which didn’t help them much.

While chasing the target, Sports College, Lucknow batsman Mohsin Ali played a impressive knock of 94 runs in 90 balls (6×2, 4×10). He was well supported by Mohit Pal and Vijay Yadav, who scored 52 runs and 61 runs respectively, but they failed to win the tight match.

Sports College, Lucknow was needed four runs in last balls but they managed only 2.. Mukund Sarda bowled the last over and he was well-supported by Vevek Anand and Prashant Srivesta who took 2 wickets each.

Pushkar Sharma was awarded Man of the Match for excellent inning.

Credited with reviving interest in folk music from the North East, Papon has seven successful Assamese albums to his name, as well as a band that melds folk tunes from the region with electronic music, titled Papon and the East India Company. Papon won a GIMA award for Best Pop Album for his first Hindi album ‘The Story So Far’ in 2012. In addition, he is the only artist to have been a part of all three seasons of Coke Studio @ MTV. For the third and most recent season of the show, Papon produced his own episode. Over the years, Papon has also collaborated with some of the finest musicians across the world, including Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni on a contemporary folk music project called Troikala. His long-standing work with MidivalPunditz and Karsh Kale, stalwarts of the Indian music scene, has seen him perform at various festivals around the world including the Paléo Music Festival in Switzerland, Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore and Oslo World Music Festival in Norway. Papon & The East India Company also performed at the Du World Music Festival, Dubai in 2013 and Celtic Connections, Glasgow, Scotland in January 2014.

Women need to make life long investment in bones to prevent osteoporosis

Accelerated bone loss after menopause is a major cause of osteoporosis in women, and preventive action is the only recourse, says Dr Rajeev K Sharma leading orthopaedic specialist and joint replacement surgeon

New Delhi, April, 2014: Osteoporosis is a disorder characterized by depleted bones that make you more prone to fractures and injuries. It is also a characteristic that runs parallel to a person’s age and inflicts more women than men. This is why women need to invest in bone health from early on in their lives.

The process called ageing brings in its wake a series of changes in the body. As we grow wiser, we also realize that our body that was once at our command will not be so all our lives. As muscles weaken, eyes give in, hair turns grey and skin loses its sheen, you know they are telling you that they have withered a lot. So are your bones. Bone mass or density is lost as we age. This happens in both men and women but it especially aggravates in women after menopause.

“As a part of ageing processes both men and women lose their bone density by 0.3% to 0.5% after the age of 35 yrs. In women estrogen (a hormone) is important in maintaining bone density. When estrogen levels drop after menopause, the loss of bone density accelerates. Deficiency of calcium and vitamin D can aggravate osteoporosis, though it is not the main and only cause,” says Dr Rajeev K Sharma, leading Orthopedic Specialist and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi.

The bones lose calcium, vitamin D and other minerals and start losing their density. In extreme cases they become abnormally porous and fragile and extremely susceptible to fractures. This extreme condition is often described as Osteoporosis and can become a dangerous part of the lives of many an elderly. This is why we hear about so many hip, knee and shoulder fractures in older people. It is hence important to understand the way the condition works and aggravates.

According to estimates, as many as 25 million Indians are likely affected by osteoporosis. In fact, in India osteoporotic fractures may be occurring at a younger age than in the West. Recent research and studies have pointed out to the widespread vitamin D deficiency across India. The high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency is a major factor in the poor bone health of Indians. Poor sunlight exposure and a vitamin D-deficient diet are some obvious causes.

“The bad news is that osteoporosis will be present in human body without any symptoms for decades and it doesn’t cause symptoms until the bones start fracturing. Moreover, some osteoporotic fractures may escape detection for years when they do not cause symptoms. Hence, the patients may not be aware of their osteoporosis problem until they suffer a painful fracture. Depending on the location of fracture the symptoms differ but the usual symptom is pain and disability,” says Dr Sharma.

During the first five to 10 years after menopause, women can suffer up to 2%-4% loss of bone density per year! This can result in the loss of up to 25%-30% of their bone density during that time. Accelerated bone loss after menopause is a major cause of osteoporosis in women. Hormone replacement therapy post-menopause prevents this loss, but is of no major help once the window period of six years post-menopause is over.

Risk factors

·        Cigarette smoking

·        Alcohol consumption.

·        Poor nutrition and a diet low on calcium and vitamin D

·        Low estrogen levels

·        Chemotherapy that can cause early menopause due to its toxic effects on the ovaries.

·        Loss of menstrual period in young women (Amenorrhea) and it can occur in women who undergo extremely vigorous exercise training or with very low body fat, e.g, women with anorexia nervosa.

·        Rheumatoid arthritis or liver diseases

·        Immobility, such as after a stroke or from any condition that interferes with walking.

·        Hyperthyroidis or the problem of excessive sweating

·        Long-term use of anti-seizure medications and long-term use of oral steroids.

Prevention

The age old adage that prevention is better than cure holds 100 per cent in the case of osteoporosis. In fact, the only way to prevent osteoporosis is to start working with your bones when they are still young. Do not let bone loss to set in early by faulty practices.

·        Eat calcium rich diet

·        Ensure adequate exposure to the sun for vitamin D

·        Get a routine bone density check-up after the age of 35

·        Exercise to strengthen the bone

·        Quit smoking and alcohol

Asif Basra mistaken for a real life ‘Peer Baba’ during ‘Yeh Hai Bakrapur’ shoot

It was difficult for them to believe that someone who had played the role with such perfection was actually an actor by profession and not a ‘Peer Baba’. One lady wanted him to cast a spell for her son to get a job, while another one wanted her daughter to get married. Someone actually asked Asif to cure his long drawn illness. This confusion surely led to comical situations.

The trailer of ‘Yeh Hai Bakrapur’ and the recently released election anthem, ‘Pair Anaadi’, have received much appreciation and positive reviews from fans.
