Renowned directors debate the future of Indian cinema at Cinema 100
Gauri Shinde, Anurag Basu, Amole Gupte and Vikramaditya Motwane tell all at a blockbuster Directors’ panel

Renowned directors stepped out from behind the camera to share industry trade secrets in a rapid-fire session moderated by well-known film critic, Mayank Shekhar, during the first day of Cinema 100 at Whistling Woods International. Captivating an enthusiastic crowd, the directors bantered back and forth on iconic films that changed the way Indian films are made. They enthralled audiences with amusing anecdotes about their humble industry beginnings and mused aloud on how cinema will change in the next 100 years.

Gauri Shinde – “Directors make films to tell stories. Stories that they just have to share with the rest of the world. That won’t change in the future. Formats may change: from black and white to color to 3D; platforms to watch films may change but the basic need for good stories within films will not change. People will always want to hear stories.”

Anurag Basu – “With technology constantly evolving, directors’ need to always stay one step ahead. They need to anticipate the latest technology, to be ready for it. This gives them the potential to create a different story, to be able to tell the story the way they see it.”

Amole Gupte – “In the future, the way people watch films may change. Earlier people used to watch films together. With the new technology, we can watch films from the luxury of our own home. The experience of sitting in a darkened cinema may be lost in the future.”

Vikramaditya Motwane – “Indian Cinema will continue to evolve but one fact remains the same. People will go to see a film because they want to watch a great performance. For example people watched English Vinglish for Sridevi’s exceptional performance or Barfi for Ranbir’s and Priyanka’s performances.”

Ravindra Jain, Anuradha Paudwal, Sameer Sen, Ismail Darbar gush about music down the ages of Indian cinema

The panelists on the music panel discussion at Cinema 100 held at Whistling Woods International spoke about how integral music to any film and how through its meaning and flavor, a film comes alive.

Anuradha Paudwal, reminiscing about the yesteryears of the Indian music fraternity said, “It is wonderful to see how the older filmy hits are still very popular among today’s youth, it clearly shows the impact these songs had over generations and I believe they will continue to remain in the hearts of many others for generations to come”. She added, “My seniors played a very important role in moulding me and teaching me the finer skills I required to build my career and I’m very grateful for their time, effort and patience that helped me come a long way”.

Ravindra Jain enticed the audience with unforgettable lyrics from some of the films of his time. He emphasized that, “The music is what makes a film distinctive. Many a time, without music a film loses its essence – it is the music that gives a film its notoriety.”

Sameer Sen reminded the audience of all the hard work that went into making a song, he said, “Sometimes it took months to make a song, there were sequences that went on for days to get the perfect look and feel. It was this effort and talent that has made some songs unforgettable”. Sameer also thanked his mentors for the role they played in guiding him and making him the person he is today.

The discussion ended with the panelists sharing their views on what can be expected during the next 100 years of Indian cinema.

Salim Khan, Anjum Rajabali, and Subhash Ghai debate the role of screenwriters in the industry

On the first day of Cinema 100 – The Next Wave, the audience was treated to an enlightening discussion between Subhash Ghai, Salim Khan and Ajum Rajabali on the perks or drawbacks of screenwriters within the industry. With a brief summarization of the the evolution of screenwriters in the industry and a mention of the recent Film Writers’ Movement, this rapid-fire panel discussion left the audience enthralled. They were fascinated to learn the inner workings of the screenwriting industry. The engaging session also entailed a discussion of the elements crucial in creating a good script.

Salim Khan shared with the audience his humble beginning in the industry. ‘The most important thing I’ve learnt is that you need to do a self-assessment. You need to know your weaknesses and finer points. Another essential trait to cultivate is a love for reading. Without reading, every script you create will fall flat, every character dull.’

When questioned on the need for newer, original scripts in the industry, Subhash Ghai replied “Every film being created is a remake of another film in another time in another place. No idea is new. Originality does not exist in reality – we are all influences of our surroundings. Only a fool could be truly original.”

Exclusive Master Class with Vishal Bhardwaj at Cinema 100

Vishal Bhardwaj, renowned director, spoke to a captivated audience at Cinema 100 on his multifaceted journey through the film industry, from sports to music to filmmaking. He spoke of Manmohan Desai’s and Gulzar’s influence in his work. He also spoke on the importance of culture is creating a good film.

Engaging the audience, he listed the milestones in Indian cinema that made him proud to be part of such a fraternity. “Bandit Queen was the last milestone of Indian Cinema. Mera Naam Joker would have changed trends in Indian Cinema, if it had been successful.” he stated.

The Indian film industry is Hollywood’s most formidable opponent!

In an enlightening session at Cinema 100, Amrit Gangar, Film Historian spoke about the evolution of the Indian film industry over the past 100 years with an exclusive screening of his film, 100 years of Fortitude. He spoke of the strength of the Indian film industry and its potential to be the biggest film industry in the world.

“The resilience of the Indian film industry cannot be measured. In the past 100 years, it has established a global foothold that rivals even Hollywood. In the past, Hollywood has overshadowed European cinema and other global cinema but the Indian film industry remains strong. During the recent economic slowdown, the Indian film industry witnessed a strong 7% growth.” said Amrit Gangar.

Description: image007

New Delhi, May 10, 2013: There are moments in every Pepsi IPL match that change the outcome of the game and differentiate between victory and defeat- a sixer on the last ball, a diving catch on the crease, Super Overs and more. This Pepsi IPL, Mountain Dew is all set to invigorate the passion and nail biting excitement of these matches through its new campaign ‘Dew or Die’. Mountain Dew’s new campaign brings alive these moments through an innovative consumer engagement program, on-air as well as extensive on-line and in-stadia initiatives. The brand is also leveraging its partnership with three teams this season- Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils.

Celebrating the spirit of confronting fears to win, the ‘Dew or Die’ campaign builds on the cricketing excitement with a special segment on Set MAX’s ‘Extra Innings’ every day. As part of this integration, viewers are shown three ‘Dew or Die’ moments from the previous day’s matches, shortlisted by an expert panel. Viewers can then choose one moment that truly defines ‘Dew or Die’ and SMS DEW A, B or C to 9740707070. Fans, whose choice matches with the experts’ decision, stand to get a chance to be a part of Mountain Dew Xtreme Tours abroad.

The ‘Dew or Die’ campaign has also been launched through the brand’s social media channels and is getting a great response from consumers. During all matches, cricket fans can choose their ‘Dew or Die’ moments in real time and tweet to the Mountain Dew handle (@MountainDewIn) with the hash-tag, #DewOrDie to win match tickets and team merchandise.

To bring alive the winning spirit of Pepsi IPL, all three partner teams have created ‘Dew or Die’ victory chants that are being amplified in-stadia by their fans twice in every home game as well as through radio integrations. The inspiring campaign goes beyond just the match on the field and also plans to take the viewers into the team’s dressing rooms where these chants reverberate.

Ruchira Jaitly, Category Director- Flavours, PepsiCo India said, “This IPL season, Mountain Dew is celebrating the ‘Dew or Die’ passion of the players and the fans in a refreshing manner. With a short format, the T20 tournament is all about those defining moments of performance that change the fate of the game and elevate the viewer excitement to a new level. Our ‘Dew or Die’ campaign is all about these moments that differentiate between victory and defeat, segregate men from the boys.”

“Our campaign is all about consumer engagement including our TV integration that goes beyond traditional advertising. We are thrilled with the initial response to the ‘Dew or Die’ mantra on-line as well as in the stadiums, and look forward to extending it to other formats in equally engaging and innovative manner”, she added.

Mountain Dew had launched the first campaign of this season earlier this year that took the brand’s essence of ‘Darr ke Aage Jeet Hai’ to the level of crushing fear and taking a plunge to come out victorious. The ‘Dew or Die’ campaign takes forward the same philosophy and talks about fighting through all situations and taking the game away from the opposition.

This NGO will also be providing free medications and education to poor people in India.

Dr. Anmol Kapoor & Parminder Kapoor, having produced short films for the budding filmmakers also has produced many regional music albums & he takes a step further by producing the film ‘Patiala Dreamz’ & has extensively shot outdoor. He exclaims, “I spend my money for the things that I love & producing films is something that I love the most. I’ve always look forward to working with new talent & helping them produce because they are full of energy & do complete justice to the monies spent.”

Never before bollywood has produced a complete entertainer movie to help its viewers, where people will be provided with complete entertainment and feel good that their money spent to buy tickets will help poor people in their communities. Media all over the world is noticing this unique social project where people are asked to watch complete entertainment masala punjabi movie and become part of global effort to help poor people across the world. Patiala Dreamz will help make dreamz of many people come true.

Dr. Anmol Kapoor & Parminder Kapoor, juggling between shooting schedules in India & Canada is giving the movie his heart & soul, he exclaims, “This project is very close to our heart. It is a typical masaledaar Punjabi film. The proceeds of our film will go to, an NGO in Canada. The South Asian community, especially punjabis are increased risk of heart disease. We die at younger age due to heart attacks and its complications. As we have shorter life span, we are not able to contribute economically and politically to our full potential. Unfortunately, there is lack of research and awareness about increased heart attack rates among Punjabis in UK, Canada, US and many other developed countries as compared to other communitites. In UK, punjabis get heart attacks 10 years earlier and often they are deadlier. In India too, there is an increased risk of death due to heart atatcks. We would like to use engage punjabi community, provide education, and hope to prolong their life. The Punjabi audiences will definitely appreciate movies made from the heart and for good cause as punjabis are known for their big hearts. I see a lot more scope production wise in Pollywood and Bollywood where movies can provide entertainment and at the same time support various social issues.”

Patiala Dreamz is directed by the Abhishek Saxena, youngest director in the Industry . At the age of 24 he has already made an impact in the pollywood industry.
Patiala Dreamz’ music with power packed singers like Mika Singh, Ritu Pathak, Shahid Mallya & Javed Ali & Composer Jazz Punjabi .being shot at exclusive locations in Canada, Chandigarh, Goa & Patiala is under production & looks pretty good by far. Its has unique story, awesome profermances, punches of comedy, great action and everlasting music which will stay in your heart forever. Like says, ‘Patiala Dreamz’ movie is from our heart to yours!

It seems like German model Claudia is in love with the Indian Culture. She already liked Indian food, but the Indian culture seems to inspire her so much that she has started wearing a Salvar Suit and a putting Bindi on her forehead

Is there any special reason for this sudden change? After a huge success of her hot Balma song, she is definitely pulling off the Indian look.
